Abstract:The heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems account for a large percentage of total energy use of buildings and show obvious peak-valley differences due to the occupant behavior and outdoor weather, bringing challenges for the reliability of the power grid. Demand response is an effective way to reduce the electrical power demand at peak time. In this study, a temperature-humidity demand response strategy for air conditioning systems is proposed to reduce the peak load by adjusting the indoor temperature and the humidity. By analyzing the effect of the peak load shedding and the indoor thermal environment of the proposed strategy, the results show that more than 60.3% of the electricity load can be reduced in the demand response period with only 5% more unsatisfied indoor thermal environment, which is more effective than the temperature setback strategy.
