Abstract:In order to meet China's strategy of achieving carbon peak and neutrality goals under the premise of sustained economic growth, it is an indispensable part to explore which socioeconomic factors will affect the regional carbon emissions, and how much do these factors affect. First, after we studied many articles, five socioeconomic panel data of 18 prefecture-level cities in Henan Province from 2001 to 2017 were selected by us as the explained variables, then a fixed effect model was established to explore the relationship and the degree of influence between the total carbon emissions of the explanatory variable. Finally, we found that the socioeconomic data selected in this article do have a more or less positive or negative impact on carbon emissions, among which disposable income, consumer price index, and gross domestic product all have a significant positive effect on regional carbon emissions. The public budget revenue and the total retail sales of consumer goods have a negative impact on regional carbon emissions, and the total retail sales of social consumer goods does not have a significant impact on carbon emissions. Therefore, we concluded that controlling the economic development trend can effectively control the growth of Chinese carbon emission rate. Besides, some policy suggestions are formulated based on the reality in Henan Province to achieve carbon peak and neutrality goals.
