Abstract:Lai, Shao and Zhan (J Graph Theory 48:142–146, 2005) showed that every 3-connected N 2-locally connected claw-free graph is Hamiltonian. In this paper, we generalize this result and show that every 3-connected claw-free graph G such that every locally disconnected vertex lies on some induced cycle of length at least 4 with at most 4 edges contained in some triangle of G is Hamiltonian. It is best possible in some sense.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that every 3-connected claw-free graph such that every induced cycle of length at least 4 has at most 8 edges contained in a triangle is hamiltonian. This implies that every 3-connected $\{K_{1,3}\}\cup \{C_i|i\ge 9\}$-free graph is hamiltonian. We also show that every 3-connected o-heavy graph whose induced cycle of length is at most 8 is hamiltonian and that every 2-connected claw-free graph of longest induced cycle with length at least $n-2$ is hamiltonian. These results are all best possible. As a byproduct, we show that it is NP-complete to determine the length of a longest induced cycle of a line graph.

Abstract:In this article, we first show that every 3‐edge‐connected graph with circumference at most 8 is supereulerian, which is then applied to show that a 3‐connected claw‐free graph without Z8 as an induced subgraph is Hamiltonian, where Z8 denotes the graph derived from identifying one end vertex of P9 (a path with 9 vertices) with one vertex of a triangle. The above two results are both best possible in a sense that the number 8 cannot be replaced by 9 and they also extend former results by Brousek et al. in (Discrete Math 196 (1999), 29–50) and by Łuczak and Pfender in (J Graph Theory 47 (2004), 111–121). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:A graph is called claw-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to K 1,3 . Matthews and Sumner proved that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if every vertex of it has degree at least (| V ( G )| − 2)/3. At the workshop Camp;C (Novy Smokovec, 1993), Broersma conjectured the degree condition of this result can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of N (the graph obtained from a triangle by adding three disjoint pendant edges). Fujisawa and Yamashita showed that the degree condition of Matthews and Sumner can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of Z 1 (the graph obtained from a triangle by adding one pendant edge). Our main result in this paper is a characterization of all graphs H such that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if each end-vertex of every induced copy of H in G has degree at least | V ( G )|/3+1. This gives an affirmative solution of the conjecture of Broersma up to an additive constant.

Abstract:Thomassen conjectured that every $4$-connected line graph is hamiltonian. A vertex cut $X$ of $G$ is essential if $G-X$ has at least two nontrivial components. We prove that every $3$-connected, essentially $11$-connected line graph is hamiltonian. Using Ryjáček's line graph closure, it follows that every $3$-connected, essentially $11$-connected claw-free graph is hamiltonian.

Abstract:Favaron and Fraisse proved that any 3-connected claw-free graph H with order n and minimum degree δ(H)≥n+3810 is hamiltonian [O. Favaron and P. Fraisse, Hamiltonicity and minimum degree in 3-connected claw-free graphs, J. Combin. Theory B 82 (2001) 297–305]. Lai, Shao and Zhan showed that if H is a 3-connected claw-free graph of order n≥196, and if δ(H)≥n+610, then H is hamiltonian [H.-J. Lai, Y. Shao and M. Zhan, Hamiltonicity in 3-connected claw-free graphs, J. Combin. Theory B 96 (2006) 493–504]. In this paper, we improve the two results above and prove that if H is a 3-connected claw-free graph of order n≥363, and if δ(H)≥n+3412, then either H is hamiltonian, or the Ryjác˘ek’s closure cl(H) of H is the line graph of one of the graphs obtained from the Petersen graph P10 by adding at least one pendant edge at each vertex vi of P10 or by replacing exactly one vertex vi of P10 with K̄2,p(p≥2) and adding at least one pendant edge at all other nine vertices vj∉V−{vi} of P10, and then by subdividing m edges of P10 for m=0,1,2,…,15, where K̄2,p is a connected bipartite graph.

Abstract:We show that some sufficient conditions for hamiltonian properties of claw-free graphs can be substantially strengthened under an additional assumption that G is hourglass-free (where hourglass is the graph with degree sequence 4, 2, 2, 2, 2). Let G be a 3-connected claw-free and hourglass-free graph of order n. We show that (i) if G is P-20-free, Z(18)-free, or N-2i,N-2j,N-2k-free with i + j + k <= 9, then G is hamiltonian, (ii) if G is P-12-free, then G is Hamilton-connected, (iii) G contains a cycle of length at least min{sigma(12)(G), n} unless L-1(cl(G)) has a nontrivial contraction to the Petersen graph, (iv) if sigma(13)(G) >= n+1, then G is hamiltonian, unless L-1(cl(G)) has a nontrivial contraction to the Petersen graph. Abstract:A graph G is called claw-o-heavy if every induced claw ($K_{1,3}$) of G has two end-vertices with degree sum at least |V(G)|. For a given graph S, G is called S-f-heavy if for every induced subgraph H of G isomorphic to S and every pair of vertices $u,v\in V(H)$ with $d_H(u,v)=2,$ there holds $\max \{d(u),d(v)\}\ge |V(G)|/2.$ In this paper, we prove that every 2-connected claw-o-heavy and $Z_3$-f-heavy graph is hamiltonian (with two exceptional graphs), where $Z_3$ is the graph obtained by identifying one end-vertex of $P_4$ (a path with 4 vertices) with one vertex of a triangle. This result gives a positive answer to a problem proposed Ning and Zhang (Discrete Math 313:1715–1725, 2013), and also implies two previous theorems of Faudree et al. and Chen et al., respectively.

Abstract:An hourglass is the only graph with degree sequence 4,2,2,2,2 (i.e. two triangles meeting in exactly one vertex). There are infinitely many claw-free graphs G such that G is not hamiltonian connected while its Ryjacek closure cl(G) is hamiltonian connected. This raises such a problem what conditions can guarantee that a claw-free graph G is hamiltonian connected if and only if cl(G) is hamiltonian connected. In this paper, we will do exploration toward the direction, and show that a 3-connected {claw, (P(6))(2), hourglass}-free graph G with minimum degree at least 4 is hamiltonian connected if and only if cl(G) is hamiltonian connected, where (P6) 2 is the square of a path P6 on 6 vertices. Using the result, we prove that every 4-connected {claw, (P6) 2, hourglass}-free graph is hamiltonian connected, hereby generalizing the result that every 4-connected hourglass-free line graph is hamiltonian connected by Kriesell [J Combinatorial Theory (B) 82 (2001), 306-315]. Abstract:In this paper, we give the following result: Let G be a 2-connected graph of order n ⩾ 13 and n ⩽ 2σ2 − 3, where σ2 = min{d(u) + d(v): uv ∉ E(G)}. If the set of claw-centers of G is independent, then either G is hamiltonian or G belongs to three classes of exceptional graphs. The bound n ⩽ 2σ2 − 3 is sharp.

Abstract:In the first one in this series of two papers, we have proved that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , N 1 , 3 , 3 } $\{{K}_{1,3},{N}_{1,3,3}\}$-free graph is Hamilton-connected. In this paper, we continue in this direction by proving that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , X } $\{{K}_{1,3},X\}$-free graph, where X is an element of { N 1 , 1 , 5 , N 2 , 2 , 3 } $X\in \{{N}_{1,1,5},{N}_{2,2,3}\}$, is Hamilton-connected (where N i , j , k ${N}_{i,j,k}$ is the graph obtained by attaching endvertices of three paths of lengths i , j , k $i,j,k$ to a triangle). This together with a previous result of other authors completes the characterization of forbidden induced generalized nets implying Hamilton-connectedness of a 3-connected claw-free graph. We also discuss remaining open cases in a full characterization of connected graphs X $X$ such that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , X } $\{{K}_{1,3},X\}$-free graph is Hamilton-connected.

Abstract:A vertex v of a graph G is locally connected if the set of neighbors N(v) of v induces a connected subgraph in G. Let B(G) denote the set of vertices of G that are not locally connected. Then G is almost locally connected if B(G) is an independent set and for any vertex x in B(G), there is a vertex y in V(G) - x such that N(x) ∪ y induces a connected subgraph of G. The main result of this paper is that an almost locally connected claw-free graph on at least 4 vertices is Hamilton-connected if and only if it is 3-connected. This generalizes the result by Asratian that a locally connected claw-free graph on at least 4 vertices is Hamilton-connected if and only if it is 3-connected [Journal of Graph Theory 23 (1996) 191–201].

Abstract:We show that every $3$-connected $\{K_{1,3},\Gamma_3\}$-free graph is Hamilton-connected, where $\Gamma_3$ is the graph obtained by joining two vertex-disjoint triangles with a path of length $3$. This resolves one of the two last open cases in the characterization of pairs of connected forbidden subgraphs implying Hamilton-connectedness. The proof is based on a new closure technique, developed in a previous paper, and on a structural analysis of small subgraphs, cycles and paths in line graphs of multigraphs. Abstract:Thomassen conjectured that every 4-connected line graph is Hamiltonian. Lai et al. conjectured [H. Lai, Y. Shao, H. Wu, J. Zhou, Every 3-connected, essentially 11-connected line graph is Hamiltonian, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 96 (2006) 571-576] that every 3-connected, essentially 4-connected line graph is Hamiltonian. In this note, we first show that the conjecture posed by Lai et al. is not true and there is an infinite family of counterexamples; we show that 3-connected, essentially 4-connected line graph of a graph with at most 9 vertices of degree 3 is Hamiltonian; examples show that all conditions are sharp.
