Abstract:SnO2 has the advantages of excellent photostability and can be prepared at low-temperature below 200 degrees C.It is regarded as one of the excellent materials for the electron transport layer, and widely used in efficient andstable planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells. In this work, the low-cost, dense and uniform SnO2 electrontransport layer is prepared by spin coating at low temperature (150 degrees C) for perovskite solar cells with astructure of FTO/SnO2/CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3)/Spiro-OMeTAD/Au. The crystallization and photoelectricproperties of SnO2 electron transport layers prepared at different concentrations (2.5%-10%) at 150 degrees C, and theinfluences of SnO2 electron transport layers on the formation of perovskite films and the performances ofperovskite solar cells are discussed. By analyzing the scanning electron microscope (SEM), ultraviolet-visiblelight absorption spectrum (UV-Vis) and transmission spectrum of the SnO2 film, it is found that the coverageand light transmittance of the substrate and band gap of the SnO2 film increase as the SnO2 content increases,while the absorbance decreases. By analyzing the SEM, UV-Vis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and steady-statephotoluminescence spectrum (PL) analysis of the SnO2/MAPbI3 thin film, it is found that the MAPbI3deposited on the SnO2 layer with a concentration of 7.5% is uniform and pinhole-free, has the largest particlesize and the best crystallinity, as well as more effective charge extraction capability and transport capability.By analyzing the electrochemical impedance (EIS) and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the device, theSnO2 electron transport layer with a concentration of 7.5% has better interface contact and lower interfaceresistance, which is beneficial to reducing the recombination of carriers and improving the photoelectricconversion capability, The perovskite solar cells based on SnO2 layer prepared with a concentration of 7.5%reaches a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 15.82% (Voc = 1.06 V, Jsc = 21.62 mA/cm2, FF = 69.40%), Afterstoring for 600 h in ambient air ((25 +/- 5) degrees C, RH>70%) without encapsulation, its efficiency remains 92% of theinitial efficiency. Solvent‐Assisted Low‐Temperature Crystallization of SnO2 Electron‐Transfer Layer for High‐Efficiency Planar Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:A high-quality polycrystalline SnO2 electron-transfer layer is synthesized through an in situ, low-temperature, and unique butanol-water solvent assisted process. By choosing a mixture of butanol and water as a solvent, the crystallinity is enhanced and the crystallization temperature is lowered to 130 degrees C, making the process fully compatible with flexible plastic substrates. The best solar cells fabricated using these layers achieve an efficiency of 20.52% (average 19.02%) which is among the best in the class of planar n-i-p-type perovskite (MAPbI(3)) solar cells. The strongly reduced crystallization temperature of the materials allows their use on a flexible substrate, with a resulting device efficiency of 18%.

Abstract:Flexible perovskite solar cells are arising researchers' attentions due to their promising potential applications. In this letter, homogeneous and highly crystalline SnO2 nanoparticles are successfully synthesized by a solvothermal method, which are then employed to deposit high quality electron transport layers by spin coating and baking at a temperature as low as 150 degrees C. The prepared SnO2 layer has a homogenous and flat surface without any pinholes. The resulting flexible perovskite solar cell shows a high power conversion efficiency of 13.90%, which is mainly attributed to the good transmittance, efficient electron extraction and hole blocking ability of the SnO2 electron transport layer. Abstract:Tin oxide has been the mainstream as the electron transport layer for highly efficient perovskite solar cells due to advantages such as high mobility, high transmittance, and strong UV stability. Realizing high-quality SnO2 layer at low temperature can widen the range of potential applications on both rigid and flexible substrates. Herein, a seed-assisted growth strategy is developed for the preparation of SnO2 layer at low temperature (100 degrees C) and the seeds in precursor solution provide preferential nucleation sites. The SnO2 layer via seed-assisted growth exhibits higher conductivity and mobility which are more than twice those of control samples because of enhanced crystallinity. The resulting solar cells show high V-oc of 1.189 V, contributing to a high power conversion efficiency of 25.26%. To current knowledge, this is the highest efficiency for perovskite solar cells with SnO2 layer formed at low temperature (<= 100 degrees C). Contributed by the high-quality SnO2 layer prepared at low temperature, a high power conversion efficiency over 22% for flexible perovskite solar cells is also achieved.

Abstract:As electron transport layers (ETLs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs), Tin oxide (SnO2) possess high carrier mobilities with appropriate energy band alignment and high optical transmittance. Herein, SnO2 ETLs were fabricated by intermediate‐controlled chemical bath deposition (IC‐CBD) at ultralow temperature, where the chelating agent effectively altered the nucleation and growth process. Compared with conventional chemical bath deposition (CBD), SnO2 ETLs fabricated by IC‐CBD had lower defects, smooth surface, good crystallinity, and remarkable interfacial contact with perovskite, resulting in good quality of perovskite, high photovoltaic performance (23.17%), and enhanced stability of devices.

Abstract:Because of the high rate of transmittance and electron mobility , SnO2 was widely used as the electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells .This artical explored a method of preparing SnO 2 electron transport layer through SnCl 4 hydrolysis process , which utilizes anhydrous SnCl 4 as tin precursor , ethanol as solvent and water as oxidant .It is found that the morphology and photoelectric properties of SnO 2 film can be modulated by adjusting the ratio of water to the solution .Through the optimization of production process, efficiency of planar perovskite solar cell improves up to 17.38%.

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) show great potential as industrial photovoltaic devices due to their low fabrication cost and high power conversion efficiency. Owing to high electron conductivity and good energy level matching with perovskites, SnO2 is widely used as electron transport layers (ETLs) for PSCs. However, the agglomeration of SnO2 nanoparticles makes them have poor contact with the glass substrate and it is easy to produce defects on the film surface. Herein, acetonitrile (ACN) is used to optimize the conventional solvent of commercial SnO2 colloid to solve these problems. The addition of ACN in solvent resulted in better-performing SnO2 ETLs, thus eliminating the need for long-time ultraviolet ozone (UV-ozone) treatment of the glass substrate, which undoubtedly greatly simplified the fabrication process. The subsequent vacuum treatment of SnO2 films before annealing further improves morphology of the ETLs film and performance of the overall device. Finally, the best devices after the above solvent engineering treatment achieved an efficiency of 22.28%, increased by 16% with respect to the control device fabricated by conventional method. In addition, the long-term stability of devices was also apparently improved. This solvent engineering strategy provides a simple route to prepare high-quality SnO2 ETL for high-performance PSCs.

Abstract:Control over charge carrier transport in a low-temperature processed device is of key significance to realize high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and tandem solar cells. For low-temperature processed perovskite devices, a great challenge still remains due to the commonly inferior crystallinity and poor electron mobility of low-temperature processed electron transport materials. Meanwhile, electron transport layers (ETLs) produced at low-temperature show poor capability of managing the quality of overlying perovskite films, leaving abundant defects at grain boundaries, which hinder the efficient charge carrier transport or even result in severe energy loss by trap-assisted recombination. Here we present highly efficient PSCs realized by employing a tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) modified SnO2 ETL prepared at low-temperature (100-150 degrees C). TMAH modified SnO2 significantly enhances not only the conductivity of the SnO2 ETL for efficient electron extraction but also the electronic properties of the overlying perovskite film for fast electron transport across the grain boundaries. With this proposed novel ETL, an average efficiency above 20% is achieved for the low-temperature-processed PSCs, with an even higher efficiency exceeding 21% for the champion device. These low-temperature processed PSC devices also show reliable reproducibility and stability.
Electrochemical Reduction and Ion Injection of Annealing‐Free SnO2 for High Performance Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:A novel and efficient strategy is developed for the annealing‐free solution prepared SnO2 electron transport layer for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Through simple electrochemical regulation low defect concentration and optimized band alignment is acheived for PSC devices. A device power conversion efficiency (PCE) champion of 24.7% is reported with VOC champion of up to 1.19 V, in addition to a large area device PCE of 21.3%. The electron transport layer (ETL) plays a crucial role for efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). As a promising low‐temperature ETL, tin oxide still requires complicated surface chemical decoration or heat‐treatments to further passivate the defects and adjust band energy level to improve the optoelectronic performance of the device. Herein, a novel and efficient strategy is developed for the solution prepared annealing‐free SnO2 ETL for PSCs. Through simple electrochemical regulation, the elemental composition, valence ratio of Sn, concentration of oxygen vacancies, hydroxyl groups, and dopant ions are precisely modified with the optimized the energy band, reduce the defect density, and enhance high carrier transport for PSCs. Thus, an increase of power conversion efficiency (PCE) from 21.6% to 24.7% and a high VOC of 1.19 V is obtained. The modified devices maintain 95% of the initial PCE after 2000 h of storage, and 80% of the initial PCE after 900 h of aging in an atmospheric environment at 75 °C and RH 20 ± 5%. Moreover, the perovskite solar module based on the as made SnO2 achieve a high PCE of 21.3%.

Abstract:The dense, uniform and conformal electron transport layers (ETLs) will largely promote charge separation and extraction. Here, the mixed acid (hydrochloric acid and nitric acid) was used to regulate preparation process and enhance utilization of materials, and the colloids of tin oxide (SnO2) nanocrystals were prepared through hydrothermal process. The complete dissolution of Sn source can increase purity, produce homogeneous precursor, reduce grain sizes and improve film-coverage. As confirmed, a coherent interlayer at the SnO2 ETLs/perovskite interfaces will be achieved by coupling a Cl-bonded SnO2 film with a Cl-containing perovskite precursor. This thin coherent interlayer will largely reduce interface traps, enhance rapid carrier extraction, and impede charge recombination. The uniform polymer phase of (PEO)120-(PPO)30 will be used to passivate traps at the grain boundaries of perovskite films and further improve the photovoltaic performance. The maximum energy conversion efficiency (23.17%, a VOC of 1.153 V, a JSC of 24.75 mA cm−2 and a FF of 0.812) of perovskite solar cells was achieved. The charge separation, extraction, and recombination kinetics (charge dynamic process) was determined by the related characterization techniques. The functionalized SnO2-ETLs and formed coherent interlayer will provide a simple strategy to effectively decrease interface traps, enhance charge extraction, and facilitate development of perovskite solar cells.

Abstract:In fabrication of SnO2 electron transfer layer (ETL) via traditional solution routes, the strong dependence of film crystallization on high temperature annealing or robust thermal treatment makes it challengeable to prepare crystallized SnO2 ETLs at low temperature (< 150°C). Here, we put forward a sol-gel route by which the whole fabrication process of crystallized SnO2 ETL below 80°C is realized for the first time. In the new route, participation of atmosphere O2 and H2O by refluxing is crucial as it can greatly promote Sn2+ oxidation and controlled hydrolysis in SnCl2·2H2O alcohol solution, in turn opening up an energetically favorable pathway for SnO2 crystallization at low temperature. Systematical investigations reveal that SnO2 ETLs have high conductivity and transmittance and appropriate energy band level, by which PSCs obtain superior photovoltaic performance, with a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) and steady-state PCE of 19.20% and 18.48% achieved, respectively, much higher than that of the devices using high temperature annealed TiO2 ETLs (16.61% and 15.03%). The SnO2-ETL-based flexible PSCs also attain a high PCE up to 16.11% and among the highest records of flexible PSCs. Due to a larger band gap, SnO2-ETLs-based PSCs show superior UV resistance against high intensity UV light irradiation.

Abstract:Although tin oxide (SnO2) has been employed recently as an efficient electron‐transporter to realize highly efficient organometal halide perovskite solar cells (PVSCs), it is still quite challenging to apply it through facile solution‐based synthesis at low enough temperature (<150 °C) to be compatible with the roll‐to‐roll printing on polymer substrates. In this work, a dual‐fuel combustion method has been successfully adapted to modulate the exothermic characteristics and processing temperature (140 °C) of SnO2 to achieve homogeneous and crystalline thin film as efficient electron‐transporting layer for PVSCs. The fabricated SnO2 film not only has high transparency (from 350 nm to near‐infrared region) but also possesses good electron extraction ability, as evidenced by the efficient PL quenching in bilayered SnO2/CH3NH3PbI3 film. By passivating SnO2 surface with a C60‐containing self‐assembled monolayer (C60‐SAM), a high power conversion efficiency (PCEmax) of >15% with negligible hysteresis can be achieved in PVSC. This demonstrates the great potential of applying this dual‐fuel combustion process to improve processability and charge‐transporting properties of metal oxides for organic electronics applications.
Enhanced electron extraction using SnO2 for high-efficiency planar-structure HC(NH2)2PbI3-based perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Planar structures for halide perovskite solar cells have recently garnered attention, due to their simple and low-temperature device fabrication processing. Unfortunately, planar structures typically show I–V hysteresis and lower stable device efficiency compared with mesoporous structures, especially for TiO2-based n-i-p devices. SnO2, which has a deeper conduction band and higher electron mobility compared with traditional TiO2, could enhance charge transfer from perovskite to electron transport layers, and reduce charge accumulation at the interface. Here we report low-temperature solution-processed SnO2 nanoparticles as an efficient electron transport layer for perovskite solar cells. Our SnO2-based devices are almost free of hysteresis, which we propose is due to the enhancement of electron extraction. By introducing a PbI2 passivation phase in the perovskite layer, we obtain a 19.9 ± 0.6% certified efficiency. The devices can be easily processed under low temperature (150 ∘C), offering an efficient method for the large-scale production of perovskite solar cells.

Non-toxic and rapid chemical bath deposition for SnO2 electron transporting layers in perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Perovskite solar cells are a promising new solar technology with efficiencies surpassing polycrystalline silicon solar cell technology. For the n-i-p perovskite solar cells, tin oxide is typically used as the electron transport layer. One typical deposition method is chemical bath deposition. However, the drawbacks are toxic precursors and the slow reaction driven by dissolved oxygen forming SnO2 x. Here, we present a tin oxide chemical bath deposition starting from non-toxic sodium stannate solutions. Within 6 minutes of reaction time, a 9 nm thick amorphous Sn(IV)-oxide film is grown yielding solar cells with power conversion efficiencies of at least 23.2%. Surprisingly, the sole use of Sn(IV) precursors contradicts the previous Sn(II) doping assumption required for n-doping & high electric conductivity, and, unexpectedly, amorphous tin oxide films are as suitable for charge transport layers as their crystalline counterparts. The synthesis method is transferrable to other substrates (ITO, glass) and other thin-film metal oxide coatings (MoOx, SiO2) and beneficial for devices such as solar cells, photodetectors, light emitting diodes, and heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract:Planar lead halide perovskite solar cells have shown a promising application in the field of printable solar cells. However, high-performance planar perovskite solar cells typically need a high-temperature process to achieve crystallized titanium oxide films as the electron transport layers, which hinders their application in flexible plastic substrates. Here, we demonstrate a bilayered TiO2-SnO2 film as an excellent substitute for electron transport layer using a low temperature liquid phase method. The bilayered TiO2-SnO2 film exhibits efficient electron extraction and hole blocking ability even at a low processing temperature of 150 degrees C. The as-obtained solar cells exhibit a champion power conversion efficiency of 18.85% (V-oc = 1.100 V, J(sc) = 22.52 mA cm(-2) and FF = 0.761) under one sun illumination, which is much higher than the devices based on individual SnO2 or TiO2 electron transport layers. The higher electron extraction driving force at the SnO2/perovskite interface and the stronger hole blocking ability due to the defect-free physical contact at the TiO2/FTO interface are suggested to be the main reasons for the improved device performance.

Abstract:The charge transport layer is crucial to the performance and stability of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Compared with other conventional metal oxide electron transport materials, SnO2 has a deeper conduction band and higher electron mobility, and can efficiently serve as an electron transport layer to facilitate charge extraction and transfer. Herein, an optimized low-temperature solution-processed SnO2 electron transport layer is achieved by doping polyethylenimine polyelectrolyte into SnO2 for the first time in the PSCs. It is found that the performance of all aspects of the doped SnO2 film is improved over that of the pristine SnO2 film. The better energy level alignment, larger built-in field, enhanced electron transfer/extraction, and reduced charge recombination all contribute to the improved device performance. Finally, a PSC with a power conversion efficiency of 20.61% is successfully prepared under low temperature below 150 degrees C. Moreover, the stability of the doped SnO2-based device is also greatly improved.

Abstract:This study reports on interconnected SnO2 electron transport layers (composed of presynthesized SnO2 nanocrystals interconnected by amorphous phase SnOx) processed at low temperature (120 °C) for highly efficient flexible perovskite solar cells. Herein, the amorphous phase SnOx serves as an effective binder to connect the SnO2 nanocrystals to obtain ultra‐smooth electron transport layers. Further characterization of the charge carrier kinetics at the perovskite/electron transport layer interface confirms that the interconnected SnO2 nanocrystals layer facilitates electron extraction and retards nonradiative charge carrier recombination. Consequently, a power conversion efficiency of 16.29% is achieved for flexible perovskite solar cells using the interconnected SnO2 electron transport layer on indium tin oxide/polyethylene terephthalate substrates.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) typically use high-temperature processed TiO2 as electron transporting layers (ETLs). Here, we report a low temperature and aqueous solution processed route to prepare ZnO ETLs for perovskite solar cells. The ZnO ETL was prepared by spin coating a stable aqueous solution of an ammine-hydroxo zinc complex, [Zn(NH3)(x)](OH)(2), followed by thermal annealing at a relatively low temperature of 150(circle)C. The as-prepared ZnO film was highly transparent and uniform. Moreover, the relatively low work function of the ZnO film led to a high open circuit voltage (1.07 V), indicating its promise as the electron transporting layer. To further improve the photovoltaic performance, urea was introduced between the ZnO layer and the perovskite layer to improve the perovskite crystal growth. As a result, the PCE surged to 14.6%. We further exploited the lowtemperature processed ZnO film for flexible PSCs, which have shown good mechanical stability with a respectable PCE of 11.9%.
