Abstract:We derive interior curvature bounds for admissible solutions of a class of curvature equations subject to affine Dirichlet data, generalizing a well-known estimate of Pogorelov for equations of Monge-Ampere type. For equations for which convexity of the solution is the natural ellipticity assumption, the curvature bound is proved for solutions with C-1,C-1 Dirichlet data. We also use the curvature bounds to improve and extend various existence results for the Dirichlet and Plateau problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Dirichlet problem for a class of prescribed curvature equations. Both degenerate and non-degenerate cases are considered. The existence of the $C^{1,1}$ regular graphic hypersurfaces with prescribing a class of curvatures and constant boundary is proved for the degenerate case.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the problem of finding closed hypersurfaces with prescribed Weingarten curvature in a large class of Riemannian manifolds. Under some sufficient conditions, we obtain an existence result by establishing a priori estimates and standard degree theory for the admissible solutions to the prescribed curvature equation. We mainly show that the primary technique developed in Urbas, Wang and the second author’s work in 2004 is flexible enough to be used in more general ambient geometry.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of conformally deforming a metric to a prescribed kth order symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tensor on compact Riemannian manifolds with totally geodesic boundary. We prove the solvability of the problem and the compactness of the solution set for the case k >= n/2, provided the conformal class admits a k-admissible metric. These results have been proved by Gursky and Viaclovsky, Trudinger and Wang for the manifolds without boundary, and by Jin et al. and S. Chen for the locally conformally flat manifolds with boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we solve a class of Neumann problems on a manifold with totally geodesic smooth boundary. As a consequence, we also solve the prescribing k-curvature problem of the modified Schouten tensor on such manifolds; that is, if the initial k-curvature of the modified Schouten tensor is positive for tau > n - 1 or negative for tau < 1, then there exists a conformal metric such that its k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor equals some prescribed function and the boundary remains totally geodesic.

Abstract:To study the prescribed $k$ -curvature problem of 2nd-order symmetric curvature tensors on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, we consider a class of fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. It is proved that on a Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature and Ricci curvature bounded from below, the equation is solvable provided that all the eigenvalues of the tensor are negative. The result is applicable to the prescribed $k$ -curvature problems of modified Schouten tensor and Bakry–Émery Ricci tensor.

Abstract:We study the problem of finding complete conformal metrics determined by some symmetric function of the modified Schouten tensor on compact manifolds with boundary; which reduces to a Dirichlet problem. We prove the existence of the solution under some suitable conditions. In particular, we prove that every smooth compact n-dimensional manifold with boundary, with n >= 3, admits a complete Riemannian metric g whose Ricci curvature Ric(g) and scalar curvature R-g satisfydet(Ric(g) - R(g)g) = const.This result generalizes Aviles and McOwen's in the scalar curvature case.

Abstract:In the paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness results of the $C^{1,1}$ regular graphic hypersurface for Dirichlet problem of a class of degenerate Hessian quotient type curvature equations under the condition $\psi^{\frac{1}{k-l}}\in C^{1,1}(\overline{\Omega}\times\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^n)$. Specially, we also consider the second order derivative estimates for the corresponding degenerate Hessian type curvature equations under the optimal condition $\psi^{\frac{1}{k-1}}\in C^{1,1}(\overline{\Omega}\times\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^n)$.

Abstract:We establish the Pogorelov type estimates for degenerate prescribed k-curvature equations as well as k-Hessian equations. Furthermore,we investigate the interior C1,1 regularity of the solutions for Dirichlet problems. These techniques also enable us to improve the existence theorem for an asymptotic Plateau type problem in hyperbolic space.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Dirichlet problem for the homogeneous $k$-Hessian equation with prescribed asymptotic behavior at $0\in\Omega$ where $\Omega$ is a $(k-1)$-convex bounded domain in the Euclidean space. The prescribed asymptotic behavior at $0$ of the solution is zero if $k>\frac{n}{2}$, it is $\log|x|+O(1)$ if $k=\frac{n}{2}$ and $-|x|^{\frac{2k-n}{n}}+O(1)$ if $k<\frac{n}{2}$. To solve this problem, we consider the Dirichlet problem of the approximating $k$-Hessian equation in $\Omega\setminus \overline{B_r(0)}$ with $r$ small. We firstly construct the subsolution of the approximating $k$-Hessian equation. Then we derive the pointwise $C^{2}$-estimates of the approximating equation based on new gradient and second order estimates established previously by the second author and the third author. In addition, we prove a uniform positive lower bound of the gradient if the domain is starshaped with respect to $0$. As an application, we prove an identity along the level set of the approximating solution and obtain a nearly monotonicity formula. In particular, we get a weighted geometric inequality for smoothly and strictly $(k-1)$-convex starshaped closed hypersurface in $\mathbb R^n$ with $\frac{n}{2}\le k<n$.

Abstract:We study the Dirichlet problem of a class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Hermitian manifolds and derive a priori $C^2$ estimates which depend on the initial data on manifolds, the admissible subsolutions and the upper bound of the gradients of the solutions. In some special cases, we obtain the gradient estimates, and hence we can solve the corresponding Dirichlet problem with admissible subsolutions. We also study the Hessian quotient equations and $(m-1,m-1)$-Hessian quotient equations on compact Hermitian manifolds without boundary.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear elliptic equations in the Krylov type, which can be viewed as a generalization of the Hessian equation for Schouten tensor. After a conformal change, we considered the Dirichlet problem for a modified Schouten tensor in the smooth closed Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary. A unique k -admissible solution can be assured under some suitable settings.
