Abstract:Durable catalysts with high catalytic activity and high oxygen tolerance towards glucose oxidation reaction are pivotal for abiotic glucose fuel cells (GFCs). Herein, ZIF-8 derived three-dimensional nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NCZIF-8) material with large surface area of 944 m2 g−1 are successfully synthesized as catalyst support. Low loading rate (10 wt.%) of Pt nanoparticles (NPs) are in-situ reduced onto the NCZIF-8 support (10% Pt/NCZIF-8). The addition of NCZIF-8 support promotes the uniform dispersion of Pt NPs, improve the catalytic efficiency so that enhance the catalytic activity and durability during the electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose process. Porous structure of NCZIF-8 facilitates the kinetical transport of glucose and the anchoring of Pt NPs, which protects the anode from the cross-reaction of oxygen in the condition that exist both glucose and oxygen. After a 300-cycle CV test, the peak current density intensity of 10% Pt/NCZIF-8 anode decreases only 8.94%, which demonstrates its superior durability. With low loading rate of noble metal, 10% Pt/NCZIF-8 can be considered as an economical anode, which shows prospective feasibility for electricity supply to implantable medical devices.
