Abstract:The Paleoproterozoic magmatic rocks in the Zhongtiao Mountain region can provide important clues for understanding the tectonic evolution of the southern North China Craton (NCC). The present study verifies that the granitoid rocks from the Guzhen–Fanjiazhuang–Houma areas in the northwestern Zhongtiao Mountain region formed at ca. 2.18–2.16 Ga. The monzogranites in the Guzhen–Fanjiazhuang areas have high SiO 2 (72.05–75.06 wt%) and K 2 O (5.47–6.77 wt%) contents, but low Fe 2 O 3 T (1.29–2.00 wt%) and MgO (0.45–0.83 wt%) contents. Most samples belong to the high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite series and show weakly peraluminous features (A/CNK = 1.09–1.12). The Guzhen granodiorites have relatively low SiO 2 (63.38–67.73 wt%) and K 2 O (2.68–4.97 wt%) contents and A/CNK ratios (0.89–1.05). All the monzogranites and granodiorites yield low Fe 2 O 3 T /MgO (2.31–4.44) and 10000*Ga/Al (1.85–2.29) ratios and low zircon saturation temperatures (T Zr ) of 743–838 °C, with I-type granite affinity. They show shared trends in the Harker diagrams and no discernible difference in zircon Hf and whole-rock Nd isotopes, implying that they were generated by crystal fractionation of the same parental magma. Moreover, their Cr, Co and Ni contents, as well as Ce/Pb and Nd/Sm ratios, are similar to those of continental crust. Together with their whole-rock Nd isotopic data (ε Nd ( t ) = −0.8 ~ +2.3, T DM2 = 2413–2667 Ma), as well as zircon Hf isotopic compositions (ε Hf ( t ) = −3.03 ~ +4.54, T DM2 = 2492–2928 Ma), we interpret their derivation by partial melting of Neoarchean potassium-rich basaltic lower crust. The syenogranites in the Houma area display A-type granite affinity and are characterized by high SiO 2 (73.59–75.71 wt%), Na 2 O + K 2 O (8.57–9.43 wt%), Zr (388–432 ppm) and Zr + Nb + Ce + Y (520–642 ppm) contents and high Fe 2 O 3 T /MgO ratios (12.08–13.57), as well as high T Zr values (873–875 °C). Most zircons have positive ε Hf ( t ) values of −0.07 ~ +3.79, with T DM2 ages of 2511–2748 Ma, and plot on the evolutionary line of Neoarchean TTG rocks in the Zhongtiao Mountains. They are derived by partial melting of a mixed source of dominant Neoarchean (2.72–2.55 Ga) TTG rocks and minor juvenile mantle-derived materials. Combined with coeval mafic magmatic rocks in the Zhongtiao Mountains, we propose that these ca. 2.18–2.16 Ga granitoid rocks were likely formed in a Paleoproterozoic intracontinental rift setting. A comparison of the spatial–temporal distribution and geochemical features of ca. 2.2–2.0 Ga mafic–felsic rocks in the southern NCC reveals that the rifting events during ca. 2.2–2.1 Ga extended at least from the southern margin areas (including XQL, XES and LS) to the Zhongtiao Mountain region, which may be related to the global rifting events of the late Archean supercontinent.
