Abstract:Few studies specially outline how leader’s power influences entrepreneurial firms’ innovation. This study empirically tests the dynamic impact of chair power on innovation intensity of entrepreneurial firms. A comprehensive literature review leads to the development of a conceptual model for investigating the impact of chair power on innovation intensity of entrepreneurial firms in China. Such a model is tested using random-effects tobit regression analysis based on panel data on the entrepreneurial firms of the China’s Growth Enterprise Market. Results show that chair power positively affects entrepreneurial firms’ innovation intensity, especially those in technology-intensity industries. The moderating effect of industry categories on chair power and innovation intensity of entrepreneurial firms also depends on the degree of the chair-team socio-demographic dissimilarity. This study helps to understand the potential boundary conditions of the impact of leader power on entrepreneurial firm’s innovation intensity. It provides practical insights on the innovation management of entrepreneurial ventures.
