Abstract:Product identities in two variables $x, q$ expand infinite products as infinite sums, which are linear combinations of theta functions; famous examples include Jacobi's triple product identity, Watson's quintuple identity, and Hirschhorn's septuple identity. We view these series expansions as representations in canonical bases of certain vector spaces of quasiperiodic meromorphic functions (related to sections of line and vector bundles), and find new identities for two nonuple products, an undecuple product, and several two-variable Rogers-Ramanujan type sums. Our main theorem explains a correspondence between the septuple product identity and the two original Rogers-Ramanujan identities, involving two-variable analogues of fifth-order mock theta functions. We also prove a similar correspondence between an octuple product identity of Ewell and two simpler variations of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, which is related to third-order mock theta functions, and conjecture other occurrences of this phenomenon. As applications, we specialize our results to obtain identities for quotients of generalized Dedekind eta functions and mock theta functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate applications of the ordinary derivative operator, instead of the $q$-derivative operator, to the theory of $q$-series. As main results, many new summation and transformation formulas are established which are closely related to some well-known formulas such as the $q$-binomial theorem, Ramanujan's ${}_1\psi_1$ formula, the quintuple product identity, Gasper's $q$-Clausen product formula, and Rogers' ${}_6\phi_5$ formula, etc. Among these results is a finite form of the Rogers-Ramanujan identity and a short way to Eisenstein's theorem on Lambert series.

Abstract:Recently, Ono and the third author discovered that the reciprocals of the theta series $(q;q)_\infty^3$ and $(q^2;q^2)_\infty(q;q^2)_\infty^2$ have infinitely many closed formulas in terms of MacMahon's quasimodular forms $A_k(q)$ and $C_k(q)$. In this article, we use the well-known infinite product identities due to Jacobi, Watson, and Hirschhorn to derive further such closed formulas for reciprocals of other interesting infinite products. Moreover, with these formulas, we approximate these reciprocals to arbitrary order simply using MacMahon's functions and {\it MacMahon type} functions. For example, let $\Theta_{6}(q):=\frac{1}{2}\sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}} \chi_6(n) n q^{\frac{n^2-1}{24}}$ be the theta function corresponding to the odd quadratic character modulo $6$. Abstract:Hou, Krattenthaler, and Sun have introduced two $q$-analogues of a remarkable series for $\pi^2$ due to Guillera, and these $q$-identities were, respectively, proved with the use of a $q$-analogue of a Wilf-Zeilberger pair provided by Guillera and with the use of ${}_{3}\phi_{2}$-transforms. We prove a $q$-analogue of Guillera's formula for $\pi^2$ that is inequivalent to previously known $q$-analogues of the same formula due to Guillera, including the Hou-Krattenthaler-Sun $q$-identities and a subsequent $q$-identity due to Wei. In contrast to previously known $q$-analogues of Guillera's formula, our new $q$-analogue involves another free parameter apart from the $q$-parameter. Our derivation of this new result relies on the $q$-analogue of Zeilberger's algorithm.

Throughout our exposition, we shall give generalizations to the results given by Dilcher, Prodinger, Fu and Lascoux, Zeng, and Guo and Zhang concerning $q$-series identities related to divisor functions. Our exposition shall also provide a generalization of the duality relation for finite multiple harmonic $q$-series given by Bradley.

Abstract:Lucy Slater used Bailey's $_6\psi_6$ summation formula to derive the Bailey pairs she used to construct her famous list of 130 identities of the Rogers-Ramanujan type. In the present paper we apply the same techniques to Chu's $_{10}\psi_{10}$ generalization of Bailey's formula to produce quite general Bailey pairs. Slater's Bailey pairs are then recovered as special limiting cases of these more general pairs. In re-examining Slater's work, we find that her Bailey pairs are, for the most part, special cases of more general Bailey pairs containing one or more free parameters. Further, we also find new general Bailey pairs (containing one or more free parameters) which are also implied by the $_6\psi_6$ summation formula. Slater used the Jacobi triple product identity (sometimes coupled with the quintuple product identity) to derive her infinite products. Here we also use other summation formulae (including special cases of the $_6\psi_6$ summation formula and Jackson's $_6\phi_5$ summation formula) to derive some of our infinite products. We use the new Bailey pairs, and/or the summation methods mentioned above, to give new proofs of some general series-product identities due to Ramanujan, Andrews and others. We also derive a new general series-product identity, one which may be regarded as a partner to one of the Ramanujan identities. We also find new transformation formulae between basic hypergeometric series, new identities of Rogers-Ramanujan type, and new false theta series identities. Some of these latter are a kind of "hybrid" in that one side of the identity consists a basic hypergeometric series, while the other side is formed from a theta product multiplied by a false theta series. This type of identity appears to be new.

Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms

Abstract:Since the study by Jacobi and Hecke, Hecke-type series have received a lot of attention. Unlike such series associated with indefinite quadratic forms, identities on Hecke-type series associated with definite quadratic forms are quite rare in the literature. Motivated by the works of Liu, we first establish many parameterized identities with two parameters by employing different $q$-transformation formulas and then deduce various Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms by specializing the choice of these two parameters. As applications, we utilize some of these Hecke-type identities to establish families of inequalities for several partition functions. Our proofs heavily rely on some formulas from the work of Zhi-Guo Liu.

Abstract:The notion of a generalized product, refining that of a (symmetric and smooth) simplicial space is introduced and shown to imply the existence of an algebra of pseudodifferential operators. This encompasses many constructions of such algebras on manifolds with corners. The main examples discussed in detail here are related to the semiclassical (and adiabatic) calculus as used in the approach to a twisted form of the Atiyah-Singer index theorem in work with Is Singer and Mathai Varghese.

Identity between Restricted Cauchy Sums for the $q$-Whittaker and Skew Schur Polynomials

Abstract:The Cauchy identities play an important role in the theory of symmetric functions. It is known that Cauchy sums for the $q$-Whittaker and the skew Schur polynomials produce the same factorized expressions modulo a $q$-Pochhammer symbol. We consider the sums with restrictions on the length of the first rows for labels of both polynomials and prove an identity which relates them. The proof is based on techniques from integrable probability: we rewrite the identity in terms of two probability measures: the $q$-Whittaker measure and the periodic Schur measure. The relation follows by comparing their Fredholm determinant formulas.

Abstract:We prove a number of new Rogers–Ramanujan type identities involving double, triple and quadruple sums. They were discovered after an extensive search using Maple. The main idea of proofs is to reduce them to some known identities in the literature. This is achieved by direct summation or the constant term method. We also obtain some new single-sum identities as consequences.

Abstract:$q$-Supercongruences modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial are very rare in the literature. In this paper, we establish some $q$-supercongruences modulo the fifth and sixth powers of a cyclotomic polynomial in terms of Jackson's $_8\phi_7$ summation, Watson's $_8\phi_7$ transformation, the creative microscoping method recently introduced by Guo and Zudilin, and the Chinese remainder theorem for coprime polynomials. More concretely, we give a $q$-analogue of a nice formula due to Long and Ramakrishna [Adv. Math. 290 (2016), 773--808] and two $q$-supercongruences involving double series.

We present the following two q-analogues of this celebrated formula: Sigma(infinity)(k=0)q(k)(1 + q(2k+1))/(1 - q(2k+1))(2) = Pi(n=1 infinity)(1 - q(2n))(4)/(1 -q (2n-1))(4), Sigma(infinity)(k=0)q(2k)- [(-1)(k) k/2]/(1 - q(2k+1))(2 )= Pi(infinity )(n=1)(1 - q(2n))(2)(1 - q(4n))(2)/(1 - q(2n-1))(2)(1 - q(4n-2))(2), where q is any complex number with vertical bar q vertical bar < 1.
