Stochastic Processes and their Applications

Abstract:The distribution dependent stochastic differential equations (DDSDEs) describe stochastic systems whose evolution is determined by both the microcosmic site and the macrocosmic distribution of the particle. The density function associated with a DDSDE solves a nonlinear PDE. Due to the distribution dependence, some standard techniques developed for SDEs do not apply. By iterating in distributions, a strong solution is constructed using SDEs with control. By proving the uniqueness, the distribution of solutions is identified with a nonlinear semigroup Pt∗ on the space of probability measures. The exponential contraction as well as Harnack inequalities and applications are investigated for the nonlinear semigroup Pt∗ using coupling by change of measures. The main results are illustrated by homogeneous Landau equations.

Abstract:The (strong and weak) well-posedness is proved for singular SDEs depending on the distribution density point-wisely and globally, where the drift satisfies a local integrability condition in time-spatial variables, and is Lipschitz continuous in the distribution density with respect to a local Lk-norm. Abstract:Due to their intrinsic link with nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations and many other applications, distribution dependent stochastic differential equations (DDSDEs) have been intensively investigated. In this paper, we summarize some recent progresses in the study of DDSDEs, which include the correspondence of weak solutions and nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations, the well-posedness, regularity estimates, exponential ergodicity, long time large deviations, and comparison theorems.

Abstract:By using a regularity approximation argument, the global existence and uniqueness are derived for a class of nonlinear SPDEs depending on both the whole history and the distribution under strong enough noise. As applications, the global existence and uniqueness are proved for distribution-path dependent stochastic transport type equations, which are arising from stochastic fluid mechanics with forces depending on the history and the environment. In particular, the distribution-path dependent stochastic Camassa-Holm equation with or without Coriolis effect has a unique global solution when the noise is strong enough, whereas for the deterministic model wave-breaking may occur. This indicates that the noise may prevent blow-up almost surely.

Abstract:To characterize nonlinear Dirichlet problems in an open domain, we investigate killed distribution dependent SDEs. By constructing the coupling by projection and using the Zvonkin/Girsanov transforms, the well-posedness is proved for three different situations: 1) monotone case with distribution dependent noise (possibly degenerate), 2) singular case with non-degenerate distribution dependent noise, and 3) singular case with non-degenerate distribution independent noise. In the first two cases the domain is $C^2$ smooth such that the Lipschitz continuity in initial distributions is also derived, and in the last case the domain is arbitrary.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the stability in distribution for a class of stochastic functional differential equations (SFDEs), which include stochastic differential delay equations (SDDEs). Although stability in distribution has been studied by several authors recently, there is so far no stability-in-distribution criterion on SFDEs where the terms involved the delay components are highly nonlinear (not bounded by linear functions). In this paper we will establish the sufficient criteria on the stability in distribution for a class of highly nonlinear SFDEs. Two examples will be given to illustrate our new results. We also explain the reason why the existing stability-in-distribution criteria are not applicable by these two examples.

Abstract:In this paper, a new-type stability theorem for stochastic functional differential equations (SFDEs) is established, which is not a direct copy of the basic stability theorem for deterministic functional differential equations (DFDEs). By the new-type stability theorem, one can use the most simple Lyapunov functions and employ the equations repeatedly to deal with the delayed terms encountered conveniently and to carry out stability criteria for the equations. Based on the theorem, a practical stability theorem in accordance with the Lyapunov function method is also established, and then the asymptotic stability of SFDEs with distributed delays in the diffusive terms is investigated and a stability criterion for SFDSs is obtained, which is described by algebraic matrix equations. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our method and results.

Abstract:By using Zvonkin's transformation and a two-step fixed point argument in distributions, the well-posedness and regularity estimates are derived for singular McKean-Vlasov SDEs with distribution dependent noise, where the drift contains a term growing linearly in space and distribution and a locally integrable term independent of distribution, while the noise coefficient is weakly differentiable in space and Lipschitz continuous in distribution with respect to the sum of Wasserstein and weighted variation distances. The main results extend existing ones derived for noise coefficients either independent of distribution, or having nice linear functional derivatives in distribution. Singular reflecting SDEs with distribution dependent noise are also studied.

Abstract:Under integrability conditions on distribution dependent coefficients, existence and uniqueness are proved for McKean-Vlasov type SDEs with non-degenerate noise. When the coefficients are Dini continuous in the space variable, gradient estimates and Harnack type inequalities are derived. Abstract:As an important tool characterizing the long time behavior of Markov processes, the Donsker-Varadhan LDP (large deviation principle) does not directly apply to distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs since the solutions are not standard Markovian. We establish this type LDP for several different models of distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs which may also with memories, by comparing the original equations with the corresponding distribution independent ones. As preparations, the existence, uniqueness and exponential convergence are also investigated for path-distribution dependent SPDEs which should be interesting by themselves. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:The existence and non-uniqueness of stationary distributions for distribution dependent stochastic differential equations with regular coefficients and singular coefficients are investigated. The existence of several stationary distributions is referred to as the phase transition. Our criterion on the existence and the non-uniqueness allow the drift to be in the non-gradient case and the noise to be multiplicative and depend on the law of the solution. By using our criterion, McKean-Vlasov stochastic equations in double-wells landscape with the quadratic interaction and the non-quadratic interaction driven by distribution dependent multiplicative noise are investigated.

Abstract:Forward–backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) have attracted significant attention since they were introduced, due to their wide range of applications, from solving non-linear PDEs to pricing American-type options. Here, we consider two new classes of multidimensional FBSDEs with distributional coefficients (elements of a Sobolev space with negative order). We introduce a suitable notion of solution and show its existence and in certain cases its uniqueness. Moreover we establish a link with PDE theory via a non-linear Feynman–Kac formula. The associated semi-linear parabolic PDE is the same for both FBSDEs, also involves distributional coefficients and has not previously been investigated.

Abstract:We propose a new type SDEs, whose coefficients depend on the image of solutions, to investigate the diffusion process on the Wasserstein space $\mathcal P_2$ over $\mathbb R^d$. As applications, the strong well-posedness is derived for a class of conditional distribution dependent SDEs where the weak solutions have been investigated in the literature of mean field games with common noise, the Feynman-Kac formula is established to solve Schr\"ordinegr type PDEs on $\mathcal P_2$, and the ergodicity is proved for a class of measure-valued diffusion processes.
Distribution-flow dependent SDEs driven by (fractional) Brownian motion and Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:Motivated by the probabilistic representation for solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations, we introduce a novel class of stochastic differential equations that depend on the entire flow of its time marginals. We establish the existence and uniqueness of both strong and weak solutions under one-sided Lipschitz conditions and for singular drifts. These newly proposed distribution-flow dependent stochastic differential equations are closely connected to quasilinear backward Kolmogorov equations and Fokker-Planck equations. Furthermore, we investigate a stochastic version of the 2D-Navier-Stokes equation associated with fractional Brownian noise. We demonstrate the global well-posedness and smoothness of solutions when the Hurst parameter $H$ lies in the range $(0, \frac12)$ and the initial vorticity is a finite signed measure.

Abstract:By using the invariant probability probability measure of a reference SDE/SPDE, integrability conditions on the path-dependent drift are presented for degenerate SDEs/SPDEs to possess weak existence and uniqueness of solutions, as well as the existence, uniqueness and entropy estimates of invariant probability measures. When the reference process satisfies the log-Sobolev inequality, Sobolev estimates are derived for the density of invariant probability measures. The main results are applied to nonlinear functional SPDEs and degenerate functional SDEs/SPDEs.
A General Framework for Solving Singular SPDEs with Applications to Fluid Models Driven by Pseudo-differential Noise

Abstract:In this paper we focus on nonlinear SPDEs with singularities included in both drift and noise coefficients, for which the Gelfand-triple argument developed for (local) monotone SPDEs turns out to be invalid. We propose a general framework of \emph{proper regularization} to solve such singular SPDEs. As applications, the (local and global) existence is presented for a broad class of fluid models driven by pseudo-differential noise of arbitrary order, which include the stochastic magnetohydrodynamics (hence Navier-Stokes/Euler) equations, stochastic Camassa-Holm type equations, stochastic aggregation-diffusion equation and stochastic surface quasi-geostrophic equation. Thus, some recent results derived in the literature are considerably extended in a unified way.
