Abstract:Physical, spectroscopic and electrochemical information on the potentiostatically synthesized hybrid material polypyrrole/PW12O40 3- was obtained by means of electron microscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, in situ UV-vis absorption-reflection spectroelectrochemistry, FTIR spectroscopy, EDX and cyclic voltammetry. The hybrid shows a very flat morphology and a two-layer structure after its generation. By reduction, the external layer, 76% weight of the material, is electrodissolved. This fraction contains PW12O40 3- anions and pyrrole oligomers. Continuous potential cycling of the insoluble hybrid adhered to the electrode gives rise to an increasing concentration of polyoxometalate in the background solution, thus proving that phosphotungstate anions were gradually rejected from the film. Films before and after electrodissolution of the soluble fraction show similar flat morphology. The insoluble fraction undergoes a strong morphological change during potential cycling, keeping almost constant both weight and stored charge. The oxidized state of the electrosoluble layer is partially soluble in DMSO and in mixtures of PC and EC, thus opening new ways for processing those materials. The two-layer structure of polypyrrole-based hybrid materials was also observed for other polyoxometalates, synthesized in different electrolytic media. © 2000 American Chemical Society.

Abstract:The potentiostatic synthesis and microgravimetric kinetics of hybrid materials polypyrrole/PW12O40 3- has been investigated. Every electrogenerated film was controlled by cyclic voltammetry. Charge consumed during polymerization, weight of the electrogenerated films, charge stored in the film, weight of the film after charge/discharge cycles, productivity of the electropolymerization charge (mg mC-1) and specific charge (mA h g-1) stored in the material were obtained for every film. The influence of the variables potential of polymerization, pyrrole or polyoxometalate concentrations, temperature, and polymerization time was studied. Whatever the conditions of synthesis, a constant productivity of 1.9 × 10-3 mg.mC″1 was obtained. Every electrogenerated film undergoes a weight loss up to 80% during the initial cathodic voltammetric control. The insoluble part of the films electrogenerated at increasing potentials stores an almost constant specific charge near 100 mA h g-1, showing that increasing rates of degradation processes, usually found in other electropolymerization processes, are not present in this system. The high reaction order of the kinetics related to the polyoxometalate concentration was attributed to the formation of adducts polyoxometalate-pyrrole, adducts being the electroactive species during electropolymerization. Results show that the mechanism of the electropolymerization process does not change in a significant way when the conditions of synthesis are changed. © 2000 American Chemical Society.

Abstract:Hybrid materials constituted by polypyrrole doped with the polyoxometalate (POM) anion [SiCr(H2O)W11O39](5-) were electrogenerated from acetonitrile solutions. The electrochemical behavior of the hybrid films was studied by cyclic voltammetry in three different electrolytes formed by two anions and two cations, dissolved in acetonitrile. Following both, the film weight evolution and the solutions composition with cycling, together with an EDX study of the film showing the electrochemical evolution, have allowed the identification of the ions interchanged during the redox processes for the different studied electrolytes. Prevalent cation interchange, continuous substitution of the POM anion by the anion in solution, and partial electrodissolution of the hybrid film were identified as prevalent processes in the different electrolytes. Conducting measurements show that the films present a high room temperature conductivity that is thermally activated. Magnetic measurements confirmed the presence of the paramagnetic POM in the films and indicate that the number of pyrrole monomers per cationic charge is about 4.5. These results have been confirmed by elemental analysis.

Abstract:Polypyrrole (PPy) hybrid material doped vanadotungstogermanic triheteropoly acid was prepared for the first time. Their SEM, IR and XRD patterns confirm the existence of Keggin anions and form the space reticular structure. The material exhibits excellent proton conduction, its proton conductivity is 1.24×10−2Scm−1 at room temperature (18°C).

Abstract:In this work, polypyrrole/nano-Y2O3 conducting composite was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization. The composite was characterized using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectra, UV–vis absorption spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrical conductivity measurements. The results indicate that Y2O3 nanoparticles are almost enwrapped by polypyrrole. The addition of Y2O3 nanoparticles results in changes in the surface structure and conductivity of the composite. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that composite has better thermal stability than that of pure polypyrrole.

Abstract:Pyrrole monomer (mPPy) in an aqueous solution was used to create the conductive polymer polypyrrole (a homo-PPy) using a chemical oxidative polymerization process over a period of several hours at room temperature. Ferric chloride (FeCl3) oxidant was used, and sodium dodecyl sulphate (C12H25NaO4S), a surfactant. The produced PPy samples were characterized using a variety of methods, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Differential Thermal analysis (DTA), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM images revealed that nanoparticles of a homo-PPy with radii of 60-90 nm were well evenly distributed in the structure. The thermal stability and electrical conductivity of homo-PPy nanoparticles were observed to rise with a different solvent content of homo-PPy nanoparticles. As temperature rises, the electrical resistivity of the FeCl3 oxidation decreases, resulting in enhanced conductivity. It has been noted that the conductivity of homo-PPy samples is significantly influenced by their shape, and electrical conductivities ranging from.0.44 to 2.2 (Ω.m)-1. It was revealed that the solvent (ethylene glycol) and monomer had more successful heat stability. Results from FTIR and XRD analysis confirmed the structural formation of a homo-polypyrrole during synthesis from pyrrole monomer. Because of their improved electrical conductivity and thermal stability, homo-PPy nanoparticles have potential applications in energy storage, adsorption and contamination elimination, electromagnetic protection, and resistance to corrosion.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the morphological, chemical and electrochemical characteristics of conductive fabrics obtained by weaving conductive yarns of polyester chemically coated with PPy (polypyrrole)/PW 12 O 3- 40 . The weaving process allows us to obtain conductive fabrics with higher dimensions than those traditionally obtained by in-situ chemical oxidation methods. Untwisted yarns and satin fabrics produced the most satisfactory results. The yarns of PES - PPy/PW 12 O 3- 40 as well as the fabric obtained after weaving, were chemically characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection and energy dispersive X-ray. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to observe the morphology of the coating as well as the formation of defects during the weaving process. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was employed to measure the conductivity of the fabrics and the conductive nature by means of the phase angle. The process was satisfactory since the coating of polypyrrole was not excessively damaged by the weaving process.

Abstract:Hybrid composites of conducting polypyrrole nanotubes with TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in the presence of -naphthalenesulfonic acid by chemical oxidative polymerization. The morphology, structure, and electrical properties were investigated by several experimental techniques. The results indicated that the structural and electrical properties of the composites were influenced by the content of TiO2 nanoparticles. The DC conductivity of the composites increased by one order of magnitude when the concentration of TiO2 was 0.1 M compared with pure PPy nanotubes. AC conductivity of the composites showed the similar trend with the TiO2 content and obeyed the power law index in the 101-107 Hz range. The electrorheological properties of the composite under steady and oscillatory shear were also evaluated.

Abstract:Thorn-like, organometallic-functionalized carbon nanotubes were successfully developed via a novel microwave hydrothermal route. The organometallic complex with methyl orange and iron (III) chloride served as reactive seed template, resulting in the oriented polymerization of pyrrole on the modified carbon nanotubes without the assistance of other oxidants. Morphological and structural characterizations of the carbon nanotube/methyl orange-iron (III) chloride and polypyrrole/carbon nanotube composites were examined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical property of the polypyrrole/carbon nanotube composite was elucidated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge. Abstract:Hierarchical porous carbons(HPCs) were fabricated using hollow mesoporous silica spheres as hard templates and phenolic resin ethanol solution as carbon source.Polypyrrole-hierarchical porous carbons(PPy-HPCs) composites were successfully synthesized by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method with p-TSA as the dopant and FeCl3 as the oxidant.The morphology,structure and electrochemical performance of PPy-HPCs nanocomposites were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectra,galvanostatic charge-discharge,cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurements.Results showed that PPy were deposited on the surface of HPCs.A maximum specific capacitance of 316 F/g was obtained at a current density of 0.1 A/g and the specific capacitance retained 95.8% after 1 000 charge-discharge cycles at a current density of 1 A/g when the PPy mass content was 34.9%.The electrochemical performance of HPCs electrode can be effectively improved by introduction of PPy.
New spacious SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy nanohybrids and their electrochemical and photocatalytic activities

Abstract:A novel SrWO4-poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT)-polypyrrole (PPy) nanocomposite was synthesized via chemically oxidative polymerization and considered by using numerous method of the techniques. The resulting SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy nanocomposite demonstrated remarkable electrochemical sensing capabilities for sulfadiazine (SFA). As a modified glassy carbon electrode (SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy/GCE) revealed for superior catalytic activity in the electrochemical oxidation of sulfadiazine, enabling sensitive detection with quantification and detection limits of 1.0936 × 10-9 M µA-1 and 2.2104 × 10-9 M µA-1, respectively. This technique effectively determined SFA content in real samples. Additionally, SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy demonstrated extraordinary photocatalytic ability, achieving a Methylene Blue (MB) degradation rate of up to 99.1% under halogen light irradiation within 80 min. Hybrid photocatalyst has exhibited to strong reusability and photocatalytic stability under frequent light exposure. A contrivance for the photocatalytic deprivation of MB by SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy is proposed. These results underscore the crucial role of SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy in practical environmental remediation analysis. The fluorescence investigations have betrothed to terephthalic acid radical formations of SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy hybrids, which were modulated by different approaches, and its mainly driven for higher illumination aptitudes. Meanwhile, this was more supporting for physio-chemical properties of the phenomenon, at this consequential with significantly well improved to the photocatalytic performances. Because of this, SrWO4/PEDOT-PPy hybrid materials were comprehended to deliver excellent kinetics, and better recyclable activities.

Abstract:Halloysites (HNTs) core-polypyrrole(PPy) shell composite particles were fabricated by in situ oxidative polymerization of the pyrrole monomer absorbed HNTs nanotubes, obtained by the dispersion of HNTs in acid aqueous solution of pyrrole with ultrasonic irradiation and magnetic stirring, by using ammonium persulfate as oxidant. Further more, the PPy nanotubes were obtained after the removal of HNTs template by hydrochloric acid/hydrofluoric acid mixture. Both the nanocomposite particles and the PPy nanotubes were characterized by FTIR, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The SEM and the TEM images showed that the PPy is covered over the HNT surface forming the HNT@PPy hybrids, and all of the nanotubes have a uniformly inner diameter of 40 nm. The outer diameter and the tubular thickness were determined by the weight ratio of (HNTs template)/(pyrrole monomer). When the amount of pyrrole added is <0.75 mL, no tubular PPy formed any more. Abstract:Conductive polymer, polypyrrole (PPy), was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization technique for a period of four hours at room temperature using pyrrole monomer (mPPy) in aqueous solution. Different oxidants such as ferric chloride (FeCl 3 ) and ammonium persulphate (N 2 H 8 S 2 O 8 ) and surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (C 12 H 25 NaO 4 S) were used. The produced PPy samples were characterized by using different techniques such as the electrical resistivity by four probe technique, thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performance of the oxidants has been investigated and compared. It was found that both oxidants, FeCl 3 and N 2 H 8 S 2 O 8 , have decreased electrical resistivity as a function of temperature, which means increased conductivity. However, FeCl 3 has achieved better performance than N 2 H 8 S 2 O 8 , where it has achieved a lower resistivity of about 60 ohms at room temperature, which indicates higher conductivity of PPy samples with FeCl 3 as an oxidant. Similarly, further investigation of FeCl 3 oxidant has been conducted by varying its concentration, and its influence on the final properties was reported. It has been observed that the morphology of PPy samples has a significant influence on the conductivity. It was found that 0.1 M and 0.05 M concentrations of FeCl 3 oxidant and monomer, respectively, have achieved better thermal stability, which is FeCl 3 /mPPy ratio of 2 as an optimum value. FTIR and XRD results confirmed the structural formation of polypyrrole from pyrrole monomer during the synthesizing process.

Abstract:The present work describes the preparation of nanocomposites in which the multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) have been mixed with conducting polypyrrole (PPy) via an in situ chemical oxidative preparation method. To reveal their structural, morphological and thermal properties, the composites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared, and thermogravimetric analyses respectively. Electrical transport and magnetotransport properties have been investigated in the temperature range 77-300 K in the presence as well as the absence of a magnetic field up to 1 T. The conductivities of the composites are greater than that of pure polypyrrole. All the investigated samples follow Mott's variable range hopping (VRH) theory whereas the magnetic field dependent conductivity has been explained in terms of two opposite but simultaneously acting hopping effect-wave function shrinkage and forward interference effects. Abstract:We present here the synthesis and structural characterization of hybrid Au-polypyrrole-Au and Pt- polypyrrole-Au nanowires together with a study of their electrical properties from room-temperature down to very low temperature. A careful characterization of the metal-polymer interfaces by trans- mission electron microscopy revealed that the structure and mechanical strength of bottom and upper interfaces are very different. Variable temperature electrical transport measurements were performed on both multiple nanowires - contained within the polycarbonate template - and single nanowires. Our data show that the three-dimensional Mott variable-range-hopping model provides a complete framework for the understanding of transport in PPy nanowires, including non-linear current-voltage characteristics and magnetotransport at low temperatures.

Electrochemic and Photophysics Properties of Pyridine-Based Electron Transmission Material

Abstract:A pyridine-based polybenzobisoxazole (PBOPy) was synthesized via solution condensation polymerization. The polymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, electrochemical cyclic voltammetry, and time-resolved PL decay dynamics. Results showed that the introduction of pyridine groups made the oxidation potential (1.82eV) relatively larger than that of poly(p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole) (PBO) (1.65eV), while the reduction potential (1.18eV) was smaller than that of PBO (1.28eV). It can be concluded, by comparing UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and PL spectroscopy of PBOPy in film and in methanesulfonic acid (MSA), that PBOPy has a stronger protonation effect in the latter. The optical properties of PBOPy exhibited a PL emission band at 473nm in thin films and a strong orange fluorescence (498nm) after being protonated with MSA. The protonation effect resulted in a large Stokes shift, about 71nm.

Abstract:Polypyrrole-polystyrene sulfonic acid (PPy-PSSA) composite films have been electrosynthesized in an aqueous solution of PSSA. The electro-active films exhibit cation exchange during the redox process. Infrared, Raman and energy-dispersive spectroscopic results demonstrated that the polyanion of PSS- is co-deposited into the PPy matrix and couldn't be stripped from the film extensively by dedoping, The doping level together with dipolaron content of the PPy-PSSA composite film increases during electrochemical polymerization process. SEM images revealed that the composite film has smooth and compact morphology and AFM pictures suggested that PPy chains are possibly grown perpendicular to the electrode surface. TGA tests indicated that the composite films has much better thermal stability than that of pure PPy. Furthermore, electrochemical studies showed that the relaxation process at certain holding potential has great effect on the shape of the cyclic voltammetric curves of PPy-PSSA composite film. The composite film exhibits cation and anion exchange during the redox process after undergoing the relaxation step. It is more difficult for divalent anion to enter the polymer matrix than a univalent ion, and a large cation such as (CH3CH2CH2CH2)(4)N+ cannot be involved in the ion exchange process.

Abstract:The nanocomposite films of polypyrrole (PPy) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were electrochemically synthesized by direct oxidation of pyrrole in 0.1 M aqueous solution of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid containing a certain amount of MWCNT. The morphology, electronic conductivity, and thermal stability of the composite films have been studied by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis. It was found that the mixing sequence of the surfactant, the monomer and MWCNT strongly influenced the compositions and thermal stability of the composite films. Raman spectroscopic studies indicated that the contents of the oxidized species of PPy in the composite films decreased faster than that of the neutral species during the heating process. The conductivity of each composite film showed a maximum in the temperature scale of 120–180 °C and then decreased dramatically with the increase of temperature.

Abstract:A new nanocomposite, semiconducting polypyrrole (PPy) confined in mesoporous silica (MCM-41) has been synthesized. PPy was formed in the pores of MCM-41 by adsorption of pyrrole gas and subsequent oxidative polymerization with FeCl3·6H2O. Different techniques were used to characterize the nanocomposite formation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and N2 adsorption/desorption analysis show that the nanocomposite possesses mesoporous structure, and the residual pore volume of nanocomposite is significantly lower than that of pure empty MCM-41. FTIR spectra, high resolution transmission electron micrographs and electrical conductivity measurements confirmed the presence of polypyrrole inside pore channels of the host, and thermogravimetric analysis proved confinement effect in the channel system.
