Abstract:This study proposes a fault diagnosis method of discrete event systems on the basis of a Petri net model with partially observable transitions. Assume that the structure of the Petri net model and the initial marking are known, and the faults can be modeled by its unobservable transitions. One of the contributions of this work is the use of the structure information of Petri net to construct an online fault diagnoser which can describe the system behavior of normal or potential faults. By modeling the flow of tokens in particular places that contain fault information, the variation of tokens in these places may be calculated. The outputs and inputs of these places are determined to be enabled or not through analyzing some special structures. With the structure information, traversing all the states is not required. Furthermore, the computational complexity of the polynomial allows the model to meet real-time requirements. Another contribution of this work is to simplify the subnet model ahead of conducting the diagnostic process with the use of reduction rules. By removing some nodes that do not contain the necessary diagnostic information, the memory cost can be reduced.

Abstract:Fault diagnosis is an important problem in the manufacturing industry. It has been extensively studied in the past few decades both in time-driven systems and discrete event systems. This paper presents a Petri net diagnoser for online fault diagnosis of discrete event systems modeled by bounded labeled Petri nets. First, we present the concept and some properties of an extended basis reachability graph. Next, based on such a graph, we construct a Petri net diagnoser that is used to determine if a fault has occurred. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the application of the proposed diagnoser.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a fault diagnosis approach for a class of partially observed Petri nets using its structure information. With a novel graph named Diagnosis Marking Path Graph (DMPG), the proposed method does not need traverse all states of the discrete event system. For the considered Petri net, some of its transitions are unobservable including all the transitions representing faulty behaviors. In particular, a concept of diagnosis node is firstly defined. Then three diagnosis states of faults are presented based on the analysis of a DMPG, which is computed depending on the structure information of Petri nets. Finally, the validity of the method is illustrated using an example.

Abstract:In general, observable events are always assumed to be observed when studying the distributed diagnosis of discrete-event systems (DESs). However, this assumption may not be established in several DESs. In this paper, we address the problem of distributed fault diagnosis under dynamic event observations (DEOs) where some occurrences of observable events can not be captured, depending on the traces executed by systems. Then, the notion of distributed fault diagnosis under DEOs is formalized by introducing the notion of joint diagnosability with respect to DEOs (w.r.t. DEOs). For each local diagnoser, one algorithm for constructing communication models under DEOs is proposed. Finally, by constructing extended models above, an algorithm for testing joint diagnosability w.r.t. DEOs is presented.

Abstract:This paper proposes a fault diagnosis method based on the path information of a bounded Petri net model. It relies on the notions of two graphs called path marking graph and modified path marking graph, which characterize different sets of paths and markings consistent with an observed sequence, and a set of unobservable transitions whose firing will enable the sequence. The fault diagnosis method can be applied to a bounded Petri net model with unobservable and acyclic subnets. Moreover, the process of using these two particular graphs to calculate the possibilities of fault behaviors can be taken off-line, which is the most burdensome part for a bounded Petri net model, but also can reduce the memory cost. Finally, this method is verified through a production line example. The main contribution of this paper is to dig out the path information of a bounded Petri net, and to map it into different categories. By analyzing the inherent structure information of Petri net, the presented algorithm can diagnose faults without traversing all the system states.

Abstract:A dynamic model-based diagnosis method based on conflict computation is proposed.Discrete event system uses automaton to off-line add the probabilities to events and states.The method deals with the uncertainty lead by the incomplete observation.The ability of the discrete system in solving uncertain problem is enhanced.On the model built off-line,the conflict between model and observation is computed on-line,and the trajectory compatible with the observation is extracted.Based on the trajectory,the fault is estimated,the faulty trajectory is given and the state of the system is deduced.The conflict-based diagnosis is extended to the diagnosis in discrete event system.The search and judgment of unrelated events are avoided,thus,the research space is reduced.Therefore,the proposed diagnosis method is suitable for large scale systems.

Abstract:Fault diagnosis of discrete-event system(DES) is important in the preventing of harmful events in the system. In an ideal situation, the system to be diagnosed is assumed to be complete; however, this assumption is rather restrictive. In this paper, a novel approach, which uses rough set theory as a knowledge extraction tool to deal with diagnosis problems of an incomplete model, is investigated. DESs are presented as information tables and decision tables. Based on the incomplete model and observations, an algorithm called Optimizing Incomplete Model is proposed in this paper in order to obtain the repaired model. Furthermore, a necessary and sufficient condition for a system to be diagnosable is given. In ensuring the diagnosability of a system, we also propose an algorithm to minimize the observable events and reduce the cost of sensor selection.

Abstract:This note studies the distributed fault diagnosis problem in partially-observed discrete event systems, where the system is monitored by a group of agents to cooperatively diagnose faults within a finite number of steps. The novelty of this work is the creation of a methodology to verify when the faults can be diagnosed even in the presence of transmission delay impairments. To address this scenario, a new distributed diagnosability condition is proposed, which extends decentralized diagnosability conditions proposed in the literature. Such distributed diagnosability condition is then verified via a novel structure named delay recorder and a new diagnosis function. Theoretical analysis shows that the verification method can successfully determine whether the faults can be diagnosed.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of failure diagnosis in component-based discrete event systems. In this paper we propose a method to obtain the set of components when dealing with diagnosis in large complex discrete event systems. In the new method, before disassembling the system into components, we need to identify whether insert communication events into the system or not. When analyzing the diagnosability, we treat the system containing communication events as a distributed discrete event system. Otherwise we treat the system as a decentralized discrete event system. For the components which are not diagnosable, we propose a method to reconstruct them by utilizing some other components sharing the same communication events with them. This algorithm provides more accurate information of the diagnosability of the system.

Abstract:The finite state automata was used to model distributed discrete event systems ,then we proposed an algorithm of safe diagnosability for distributed discrete event systems .First ,we got the global model of the system ,pruning and determining w hether the given system could be diagnosed or not .If the system could be diagnosed ,the safe-diagnostor of the system was constructed .Then the safe labels were added to the global model to determine whether the system was safe diagnosable or not .The experimental results show that the algorithm can judge whether the distributed discrete event system is safe diagnosable or not ,and the solution space is reduced .The state numbers are approximately reduced by 7 times in the best case ,and the state numbers are approximately reduced by 5 .45 times in the average case .

Abstract:Because of the complexity of the failure diagnosis for large-scale discrete event systems (DESs), DESs with decentralized information have received a lot of attention. DESs with communication events are defined as distributed DESs. Stochastic discrete event systems (SDESs) are DESs with a probabilistic structure. A-diagnosability is an important property in failure diagnosis of SDES. In this paper, we investigate A-diagnosability in distributed SDESs. We define a local model and global model. Moreover, we construct a synchronized stochastic diagnoser to check A-diagnosability in distributed SDESs. We also propose a necessary and sufficient condition for a distributed SDES to be A-diagnosable. Some examples are described to illustrate our algorithms.

Abstract:Recently,model-based diagnosis of discrete-event systems (DESs) has been applied to large telecommu-nication networks and power transmission networks. It has attracted more and more interests in both artificial intelligence (AI) and control engineering fields. Firstly,the basic idea and modeling methods are introduced. Then,most approaches of diagnosing DESs modeled by automata have been analyzed and compared in different views. The main algorithms for testing diagnosability of DESs are also presented in the following. Finally,some open questions are given in system modeling,distributed online diagnosis,diagnosis with incomplete systems,and the system implementation.

Abstract:To ensure the correctness and uniqueness of the diagnosis,the definition of diagnosability is presented and an algorithm is proposed to test the diagnosability of Higher-order Discrete Event Systems(HDES).To diagnose HDES,it is needed to construct a diagnosis engine of HDES,which is also used for testing the diagnosability.The state of diagnosis engine includes sets of faults,thus,it is not necessary to traverse the whole graph to search faults when the behavior has been reconstructed.Furthermore,in the premise of no influence on the diagnosis results,the transition between states is constrained,thus,to avoid the generation of unnecessary nodes.

Abstract:In this paper, we revisit the fault diagnosis problem of discrete-event systems (DES) under non-deterministic observations. Non-deterministic observation is a general observation model that includes the case of intermittent loss of observations. In this setting, upon the occurrence of an event, the sensor reading may be non-deterministic such that a set of output symbols are all possible. Existing works on fault diagnosis under non-deterministic observations require to consider all possible observation realizations. However, this approach includes the case where some possible outputs are permanently disabled. In this work, we introduce the concept of output fairness by requiring that, for any output symbols, if it has infinite chances to be generated, then it will indeed be generated infinite number of times. We use an assume-guarantee type of linear temporal logic formulas to formally describe this assumption. A new notion called output-fair diagnosability (OF-diagnosability) is proposed. An effective approach is provided for the verification of OF-diagnosability. We show that the proposed notion of OF-diagnosability is weaker than the standard definition of diagnosability under non-deterministic observations, and it better captures the physical scenario of observation non-determinism or intermittent loss of observations.

Abstract:The past decade has witnessed the development of a body of theory, with associated applications, for fault diagnosis of dynamic systems that can be modeled in a discrete event systems framework. This paper first discusses the dual problem of diagnosing the absence of faults in centralized and decentralized settings. The paper then develops new definitions of decentralized diagnosis in the context of a general decentralized architecture that allows for the use of "conditional decisions" by local diagnosers. The properties of these new definitions of decentralized diagnosability are presented and their relationship with existing work discussed. Corresponding verification algorithms are also described.

Abstract:Over the past decades, fault diagnosis of discrete event systems has many applications and attracts much attention from researchers and practitioners. With the increasingly high requirements on the reliability of cyber-physical systems such as automated manufacturing systems, fault detection technology has been unprecedentedly developed. Traditional approaches to diagnosability analysis of discrete event systems assume that all the communications between sensors and diagnosers work normally and correctly. However, communication failures may occur anytime, which may cause the loss of observations. This observation loss makes traditional diagnosers fail or report incorrect information. The problem of fault diagnosis against intermittent loss of observations is addressed, i.e., robust diagnosability. In this paper, an approach to robust diagnosability analysis based on labeled Petri nets is presented. A necessary and sufficient condition for robust diagnosability is proposed. We also introduce a verification procedure of robust diagnosability using robust reachability diagnosers.

Abstract:In most of existing literature, it is assumed that all of the sensors can work normally. However in some situations, several sensors occur abnormal behavior or stuck at faults such that prior diagnosable decisions may not hold. By this regard, we address the problem of robustly distributed failure diagnosis of discrete-event systems with observation losses in this paper. In order to ensure diagnosability, the notion of robustly diagnosability is proposed in the distributed framework. Motivated by earlier works, new communication models and dilation operators are constructed, based on which the robustly distributed diagnosis problem is converted to a distributed diagnosis problem. One algorithm for the verification of robustly distributed diagnosis is proposed. Followed by it, a necessary and sufficient condition for the robustly diagnosability is presented. Finally, a part of Alipay transaction systems as an application is used to illustrate the construction of some automata and verification algorithm.
