Abstract:Two new isostructural scandium and indium phosphate frameworks, (C6H14N2)M4F2(PO4)(4). 4H(2)O (M = Sc, In), have been synthesized from hydrothermal conditions using an organic amine, 1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2]octane (DABCO), as a template. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and supported by solid-state magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy. They crystallize in the P2(1)/n space group with a = 10.283(2) A, b 12.698(2) A c = 17.864(3) A and beta = 102.761(3)degrees and a = 10.280(2) A, b = 12.700(2) A, c 17.860(4) A, and beta = 102.47(3)degrees for Sc- and In-compounds, respectively. They are built from corner-sharing M octahedra and P tetrahedra which form eight- and six-membered channels along the b-axis. The channels are occupied by organic templates and water molecules. All PO4 groups share four corners with M polyhedra, resulting in a fully connected framework. The local environments around P, F, and Sc atoms in the Sc-compound were carefully examined by P-31 MAS, F-19 MAS Sc-45 MAS Sc-45 MQMAS, and Sc-45/F-19 REDOR NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract:The recent expansion of zeolitic synthesis toward mixed geometry frameworks reflects their potential applications in shape-selective catalysis and absorption. Four scandium phosphates with three-dimensional frameworks have been hydrothermally synthesized. All structures were solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction and were supported by 31P MAS NMR and infrared spectroscopy. Structure 1 ((C2N2H10)8Sc8(ScO2)4(PO4)4(HPO4)12·12H2O) consists of a novel framework with 14-membered rings (MRs) and 10-MR channels along the a and c axes, respectively. Ethylenediamine and water reside in the resulting supercage. Structure 2 ((C2N2H10)2Sc4(HPO4)8) consists of a framework built from the corner-sharing of ScO6 octahedra with HPO4 tetrahedra whose connection results in a 8-MR channel down the a axis, where hydrolyzed cyclam resides. Abstract:A rare 3D tetranuclear {In-4(mu(2)-OH)(3)} building block based MOF {[In-4/3(mu(2)-OH)(2,6-pydc)(1,4-bda)(0.5)(H2O)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (2) was obtained through a crystal transformation from a dimeric complex In-3(2,6-pydc)(3)(1,4-bda)(1.5)(H2O)(6) (1). With a 2D + 3D -> 3D compact structure, 2 retains crystallinity in boiling water and organic solvents, exhibiting exceptional fluorescence quenching behaviour for the DMSO molecule.

Abstract:An XRD study is conducted at 150(2) K for two complexes: tris-(1,1-difluoroacetylacetonato)scandium(III) ([Sc(dfac) 3 ]) and tris-(5,5,6,6,6-pentafluorohexane-2,4-dionato)scandium(III) ([Sc(5Fac) 3 ]). Crystal data for C 15 H 15 F 6 O 6 Sc: Pbca space group, a = 15.5725(3), b = 13.8414(3), c = 17.2587(3) Å, V = 3720.03(13) Å 3 , Z = 8; for C 18 H 12 F 15 O 6 Sc: space group, a = 12.2258(5), b = 13.0513(5), c = 15.6120(6) Å, α = 86.740(1), β = 88.605(1), γ = 81.479(1)°, V = 2459.29(17) Å 3 , Z = 4. Both structures are composed of neutral molecules, the metal atom coordinates six oxygen atoms of three β-diketone ligands. The Sc–O distances vary from 2.074(3) Å to 2.093(3) Å in [Sc(dfac) 3 ] and from 2.069(3) Å to 2.118(3) Å in [Sc(5Fac) 3 ]. The molecules in the crystals of both compounds are connected only Van der Waals interactions and form a pseudo-layered structure with a hexagonal molecular arrangement inside the layer. The shortest Sc⋯Sc distances are 7.673(1) Å in [Sc(dfac) 3 ] and 7.4359(9) Å and 7.4007(9) Å in [Sc(5Fac) 3 ]. The analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces shows that H⋯H, F⋯H, and F⋯F are the main intermolecular contacts in the packing of these complexes. A comparison with known tris-β-diketonate scandium complexes is performed, and the influence of the structure and the nature and number of intermolecular interactions in the crystals of the studied compounds on their thermal properties is analyzed.

Abstract:Presented here are a series of indium–organic frameworks synthesized by the self-assembly of In<sup>3+</sup> salts and 1,1′-ferrocenedicarboxylic acid (H<sub>2</sub>FcDCA). Nitrogen-containing organic additives played various roles in the diversity of the structures. These compounds exhibit diverse frameworks with rich supramolecular interactions, which show good photoelectronic and redox activity together with active FcDCA ligands. Abstract:A novel indium phosphate has been prepared hydrothermally using trithylenetetramine as template. The compound (C6N4H22)1/2[In3(HPO4)6]·H3O crystallized in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c (No. 15) with cell parameters a=18.313(4)Å, b=8.8229(18)Å, c=16.221(3)Å, β=111.70(3)°, V=2435.1(8)Å3 and Z=2; the final residual factor were R=0.0239 and Rw=0.0662. The structure consists of two similar secondary building units (SBUs), [In3(PO3(OH))6], featured by two [3.3.3] propellane-like chiral motifs with Δ and Λ configuration, respectively. These SBUs construct to 3-D framework containing 1-D straight channels with eight-membered rings along [110] direction, the fully-protonated organic amine molecules and H3O+ are located in the channels and neutralize the negative charges of the inorganic framework. The further characterizations of the compound have been performed by X-ray powder diffraction, ICP, IR and TG–DTA analyses.

Abstract:Two-dimensional zeolitic materials have drawn increasing attention because of their structural diversity, high accessible surface areas, and potential as precursors to form novel three-dimensional (3D) structures. Here we report a new layered fluoroaluminophosphate, denoted as EMM-9 (ExxonMobil Material #9), synthesized in the same synthesis system as that for a previously reported 3D framework structure EMM-8 (framework-type code: SFO) using an F- medium and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) as the organic structure-directing agent. The structure of EMM-9 was solved from rotation electron diffraction data and refined against synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction data. The fluoroaluminophosphate layer of EMM-9 is composed of sti composite building units. The DMAP cations are located between the layers. pi-pi interactions between the DMAP cations and hydrogen bonding between the DMAP cations and layers were identified. The layered EMM-9 structure is closely related to the 3D framework structure of EMM-8 and can be transformed to EMM-8 by calcination.
A Metal-Rich Fluorinated Indium Phosphate, 4[nh3(ch2)3nh3]·3[h3o]·[in9(po4)6(hpo4)2f16]·3h2o, with 14-Membered Ring Channels

Abstract:The organically templated 3-D open-framework metal-rich phosphate 4[NH3(CH2)(3)NH3]. 3[H3O].[In-9(PO4)(6)(HPO4)(2)F-16]. 3[H2O] has been synthesized hydrothermally and its structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound is monoclinic, P2(1)/n, a 13.616(2) Angstrom, b = 9.372(2) Angstrom, c = 23.293(4) Angstrom, beta = 99.44(2)degrees, V = 2932.1(9) Angstrom(3), R = 0.034, R-w = 0.038. It was characterized further using TGA, P-31 NMR, and elemental analysis, which supported the above formulation. The compound has a complex system of channels, which feature large elliptical 6.5 x 14 Angstrom cavities resulting from 14-membered rings. An unusually high degree of fluorination is found for this compound resulting from use of 8 molar equivs of HF in its preparation. The fluorides occupy both terminal and bridging environments around the indium. The former are involved in hydrogen bonding to countercations, and the latter are critical to corner sharing of In octahedra to create In-3 polyhedral subunits. The anion framework can be described in terms of a pillared layer structure in which corrugated sheets of formula [In-9(PO4)(6)F-16](7-) are pillared via the (HPO4)(2-) groups.

Abstract:Two new three-dimensional (3D) Sc(III)-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) [Sc-2(OH)(2)(TDC)(2)]center dot 4H(2)O (1) and [Sc3O(fum)(3)(H2O)(3)(NO3)]center dot DMF (2) (H2TDC = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, H(2)fum = fumaric acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized. For 1, TDC2- ligands connect infinite one-dimensional (1D) -Sc-OH-Sc-OH-chains to form open-framework with rhombic channels along the a axis. In 2, flexible fum e- ligands link adjacent trimer [Sc3O(COO)(6)(H2O)(3)] secondary building units showing hexagonal-closed circular pores with a diameter of approximate 9.9 angstrom. Furthermore, the desolvated material la can retain the framework, presenting good catalytic activity, significant universality and substrate-selectivity for Strecker-type reactions of trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) and various aromatic aldimines, especially for N-benzyl 4-methoxybenzaldimine.

Abstract:Understanding how chemical modifications alter the atomic‐scale organization of materials is of fundamental importance in materials engineering and the target of considerable efforts in computational prediction. Incorporating covalent and noncovalent interactions in designing crystals while “piggybacking” on the driving force of molecular self‐assembly has augmented efforts to understand the emergence of complex structures using directed synthesis. In this work, microcrystalline powders of the silver 2‐, 3‐, and 4‐fluorobenzenethiolates are prepared and their structures are resolved by small‐molecule serial femtosecond X‐ray crystallography. These three compounds enable the emergence and role of supramolecular synthons in the crystal structures of 3D metal‐organic chalcogenolates to be examined. The unique divergence in their optoelectronic, morphological, and structural behaviors is assessed. The extent of CHF interactions and their influence on the structure and the observed trends in the thermal stability of the crystals are quantified through theoretical calculations and thermogravimetric analysis.

Abstract:Organic electron acceptor materials play an important role in organic electronics. Recently, many organic electron acceptors have been developed, in which aromatic fused-imides have proved to be a promising family of excellent electron acceptors. We report the first synthesis of a novel aromatic fused-imide, acenaphtho[1, 2-k]fluoranthene diimide derivative (AFI), using lithium-halogen exchange and Diels-Alder reactions. The construction of a large conjugated plane and the introduction of electron-withdrawing imide groups endow AFI with a low lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level of −3.80 eV. AFI exhibits a regular molecular arrangement and strong π-π interactions in the single-crystal structure, which indicates its potential application in organic electronic devices. Solar cell devices that were fabricated using AFI as the electron acceptor and P3HT as the electron donor achieved an energy conversion efficiency of 0.33%.

Abstract:A novel layered framework of tin(II) phosphate, [Sn-4(PO4)(3)(OH)](2-.)[trans-1,2-C6H,O(NH3)(2)](2+), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions with tin(Il) oxalate, phosphoric acid and a mixture of trans- and cis-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (1,2-DACH). The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n (No. 14). The channels of the trans-1,2-DACH are occluded by hydrogen bonding in the doubly protonated form, which is leached out from the framework. Reaction using only tran-DACH gives the same compound. For comparison, when cis-DACH is used as template under the same conditions instead of the mixture of trans and cis isomers, the neutral inorganic phosphate framework (Sn3O)(2)(Sn2O)(2)(PO4)(4) is formed. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 (No. 2). These results suggest that trans- 1,2-DACH is selectively occluded in the framework, Sn-4(PO4)(3)(OH)](2-.) [trans- 1,2-C6H2O(NH3)(2)](2+). Abstract:Organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelectric materials have attracted attention from researchers as promising candidates for functional materials, because they combine high performance and low cost. Herein, a new organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelectric material (C4H10N)6[InBr6][InBr4]3·H2O (1) was synthesized and characterized. The compound undergoes a paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition at TC = 232 K, which is investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dielectric measurements and variable-temperature structural analyses. Crystal structure analyses indicated that the disorder-order transition of Br atoms in [InBr4]- anions depending on temperature was the main factor driving the phase transition from Pbcn to Pna21. This finding will open up a new direction to probe the organic-inorganic hybrid molecular ferroelectric phase transition materials.
