Abstract:Let p be a prime number. In this work we characterize all the analytic functions f:Zp→Cp without roots in N for which the sequence (vp(f(n)))n≥0 is p-regular. Then we apply our characterization to study quadratic linear recurrent sequences.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to investigate the refinement equations of the form where the vector of functions = (1, … ,r)T is in (LP(R8))T,1 ≤ p ≤∞, α(α),α ∈ Z5, is a finitely supported sequence of r × r matrices called the refinement mask, and M is an s x a integer matrix such that limn→ ∞ M-n = 0. Abstract:The regularity of refinable functions is an important issue in all multiresolution analysis and has a strong impact on applications of wavelets to image processing, geometric and numerical solutions of elliptic partial differential equations. The purpose of this paper is to characterize the regularity of refinable functions with exponentially decaying masks and a dilation matrix whose eigenvalues have the same modulus. The main results of this paper are really extensions of some results in Cohen et al. (1999) [5], Jia (1999) [17] and Lorentz and Oswald (2000) [28].

Abstract:Let $(x_n)_{n\geq0}$ be a linear recurrence sequence of order $k\geq2$ satisfying $$x_n=a_1x_{n-1}+a_2x_{n-2}+\dots+a_kx_{n-k}$$ for all integers $n\geq k$, where $a_1,\dots,a_k,x_0,\dots, x_{k-1}\in \mathbb{Z},$ with $a_k\neq0$. In 2017, Sanna posed an open question to classify primes $p$ for which the quotient set of $(x_n)_{n\geq0}$ is dense in $\mathbb{Q}_p$. In a recent paper, we showed that if the characteristic polynomial of the recurrence sequence has a root $\pm \alpha$, where $\alpha$ is a Pisot number and if $p$ is a prime such that the characteristic polynomial of the recurrence sequence is irreducible in $\mathbb{Q}_p$, then the quotient set of $(x_n)_{n\geq 0}$ is dense in $\mathbb{Q}_p$. In this article, we answer the problem for certain linear recurrence sequences whose characteristic polynomials are reducible over $\mathbb{Q}$.

Uniform Recurrence in the Motzkin Numbers and Related Sequences mod $p$

Abstract:Many famous integer sequences including the Catalan numbers and the Motzkin numbers can be expressed in the form $ConstantTermOf\left[P(x)^nQ(x)\right]$ for Laurent polynomials $Q$, and symmetric Laurent trinomials $P$. In this paper we characterize the primes for which sequences of this form are uniformly recurrent modulo $p$. For all other primes, we show that $0$ has density $1$. This will be accomplished by showing that the study of these sequences mod $p$ can be reduced to the study of the generalized central trinomial coefficients, which are well-behaved mod $p$.

Abstract:Let p⩾2 be a prime number and let Zp be the ring of all p-adic integers. For all α,β,z∈Zp, define Tα,β(z)=αz+β. It is shown that the dynamical system (Zp,Tα,β) is minimal if and only if α∈1+prpZp and β is a unit, here rp=1 (respectively rp=2) if p⩾3 (respectively if p=2), and that when it is minimal, it is strictly ergodic and topologically conjugate to (Zp,T1,1) with an analytic and isometric conjugacy. More importantly, when the system is not minimal, we find all its strictly ergodic components. As application, monomial systems Sn,ρ(z)=ρzn on the group 1+pZp are also discussed.
Polynomial p-adic Low-Discrepancy Sequences

Abstract:The classic example of a low-discrepancy sequence in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ is $(x_n) = an+b$ with $a \in \mathbb{Z}_p^x$ and $b \in \mathbb{Z}_p$. Here we address the non-linear case and show that a polynomial $f$ generates a low-discrepancy sequence in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ if and only if it is a permutation polynomial $\mod p$ and $\mod p^2$. By this it is possible to construct non-linear examples of low-discrepancy sequences in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ for all primes $p$. Moreover, we prove a criterion which decides for any given polynomial in $\mathbb{Z}_p$ with $p \in \left\{ 3,5, 7\right\}$ if it generates a low-discrepancy sequence. We also discuss connections to the theories of Poissonian pair correlations and real discrepancy.

Analysis of Regular Sequences: Summatory Functions and Divide-and-Conquer Recurrences

Abstract:In the asymptotic analysis of regular sequences as defined by Allouche and Shallit, it is usually advisable to study their summatory function because the original sequence has a too fluctuating behaviour. It might be that the process of taking the summatory function has to be repeated if the sequence is fluctuating too much. In this paper we show that for all regular sequences except for some degenerate cases, repeating this process finitely many times leads to a ``nice'' asymptotic expansion containing periodic fluctuations whose Fourier coefficients can be computed using the results on the asymptotics of the summatory function of regular sequences by the first two authors of this paper. In a recent paper, Hwang, Janson, and Tsai perform a thorough investigation of divide-and-conquer recurrences. These can be seen as $2$-regular sequences. By considering them as the summatory function of their forward difference, the results on the asymptotics of the summatory function of regular sequences become applicable. We thoroughly investigate the case of a polynomial toll function.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. In this paper we write down the functional equations of Siegel Eisenstein series of degree $n$, level $p$ with quadratic or trivial characters. First we study the $U(p)$ action in the space of Siegel Eisenstein series to get $U(p)$-eigen functions. Secondly we show that the functional equations for $U(p)$-eigen Eisenstein series are quite simple and easy to write down. Consequently the matrix that represents functional equations of Siegel Eisenstein series are given by the products of simple matrices.

Commutative N-polyregular functions

Abstract:This paper addresses two questions regarding N-polyregular functions, that forms a proper subset of N-rational series. We show that given a Z-rational series, it is decidable whether it is computable via a commutative N-polyregular function, and provide a counter-example to the theorem of Karhumäki that studied the same question in the case of polynomials. We also prove that it is decidable whether a commutative N-polyregular function is star-free, by proving the stronger statement that star-free Z-polyregular functions that are N-polyregular are in fact computable using a star-free N-polyregular function. Building towards answering the same questions in the non-commutative case, we present a canonical model of computation of N-polyregular functions by generalizing the notion of residual transducers previously introduced in Z-polyregular functions.

On Sequence Groups

Abstract:Linear second order recursive sequences with arbitrary initial conditions are studied. For sequences with the same parameters a ring and a group is attached, and isomorphisms and homomorphisms are established for related parameters. In the group, called the {\it sequence group}, sequences are identified if they differ by a scalar factor, but not if they differ by a shift, which is the case for the Laxton group. Prime divisors of sequences are studied with the help of the sequence group $\mod p$, which is always cyclic of order $p\pm 1$. Even and odd numbered subsequences are given independent status through the introduction of one rational parameter in place of two integer parameters. This step brings significant simplifications in the algebra. All elements of finite order in Laxton groups and sequence groups are described effectively. A necessary condition is established for a prime $p$ to be a divisor of a sequence: {\it the norm (determinant) of the respective element of the ring must be a quadratic residue $\mod p$}. This leads to an uppers estimate of the set of divisors by a set of prime density $1/2$. Numerical experiments show that the actual density is typically close to $0.35$. A conjecture is formulated that the sets of prime divisors of the even and odd numbered elements are independent for a large family of parameters.

Denote by IBrp(G) and cl(Gp′) the set of irreducible p-Brauer characters and the set of p-regular conjugacy classes of G, respectively. Set ρp(G) = {q prime: q|ϕ(1), ϕ ∈IBrp(G)}, , σp(G) = max{|π(ϕ(1))|: ϕ ∈IBrp(G)}, and . For a solvable group G, we prove that |ρp(G)| and are bounded by σp(G) and , respectively, if a well-known Diophantine equation has finite integer solutions.

Abstract:Let $f(x)$ and $g(x)$ be two real polynomials whose leading coefficients have the same sign. Suppose that $f(x)$ and $g(x)$ have only real zeros and that $g$ interlaces $f$ or $g$ alternates left of $f$. We show that if $ad\ge bc$ then the polynomial $$(bx+a)f(x)+(dx+c)g(x)$$ has only real zeros. Applications are related to certain results of F.Brenti (Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. 413 (1989)) and transformations of P\'olya frequency sequences. More specifically, suppose that $A(n,k)$ are nonnegative numbers which satisfy the recurrence $$A(n,k)=(rn+sk+t)A(n-1,k-1)+(an+bk+c)A(n-1,k)$$ for $n\ge 1$ and $0\le k\le n$, where $A(n,k)=0$ unless $0\le k\le n$. We show that if $rb\ge as$ and $(r+s+t)b\ge (a+c)s$, then for each $n\ge 0$, $A(n,0),A(n,1),...,A(n,n)$ is a P\'olya frequency sequence. This gives a unified proof of the PF property of many well-known sequences including the binomial coefficients, the Stirling numbers of two kinds and the Eulerian numbers.

Abstract:This paper introduces a robust class of functions from finite words to integers that we call Z-polyregular functions. We show that it admits natural characterizations in terms of logics, Z-rational expressions, Z-rational series and transducers. We then study two subclass membership problems. First, we show that the asymptotic growth rate of a function is computable, and corresponds to the minimal number of variables required to represent it using logical formulas. Second, we show that first-order definability of Z-polyregular functions is decidable. To show the latter, we introduce an original notion of residual transducer, and provide a semantic characterization based on aperiodicity.

Abstract:In this paper, we have introduced the (p, q)-type sequences. Their arithmetic and analytic properties are studied, and their relations with finite automata are established. The results obtained extend those of classical paperfolding sequences and some new informations are obtained.

Abstract:We study an integer sequence associated with Cantor's division polynomials of a genus $2$ curve having an integral point. We show that the modulo $p$ of such a sequence is periodic for all but finitely many primes $p$, and describe the relation between the period of the modulo $p$ of the sequence and the order of the integral point on the reduction modulo $p$ in the Jacobian variety explicitly. This generalizes Ward's results on elliptic divisibility sequences associated with division polynomials of elliptic curves.

On $p$-adic $L$-functions for $GL_{2n}$ in finite slope Shalika families

Abstract:In this paper, we propose and explore a new connection in the study of $p$-adic $L$-functions and eigenvarieties. We use it to prove results on the geometry of the cuspidal eigenvariety for $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}$ over a totally real number field $F$ at classical points admitting Shalika models. We also construct $p$-adic $L$-functions over the eigenvariety around these points. Our proofs proceed in the opposite direction to established methods: rather than using the geometry of eigenvarieties to deduce results about $p$-adic $L$-functions, we instead show that non-vanishing of a (standard) $p$-adic $L$-function implies smoothness of the eigenvariety at such points. Key to our methods are a family of distribution-valued functionals on (parahoric) overconvergent cohomology groups, which we construct via $p$-adic interpolation of classical representation-theoretic branching laws for $\mathrm{GL}_n \times \mathrm{GL}_n \subset \mathrm{GL}_{2n}$. More precisely, we use our functionals to attach a $p$-adic $L$-function to a non-critical refinement $\tilde\pi$ of a regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}/F$ which is spherical at $p$ and admits a Shalika model. Our new parahoric distribution coefficients allow us to obtain optimal non-critical slope and growth bounds for this construction. When $\pi$ has regular weight and the corresponding $p$-adic Galois representation is irreducible, we exploit non-vanishing of our functionals to show that the parabolic eigenvariety for $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}/F$ is étale at $\tilde\pi$ over an $([F:\mathbb{Q}]+1)$-dimensional weight space and contains a dense set of classical points admitting Shalika models. Under a hypothesis on the local Shalika models at bad places which is empty for $\pi$ of level 1, we construct a $p$-adic $L$-function for the family.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a $p$-adic analytic pro-$p$ group of dimension $d$. We produce an approximate series which descends regularly in strata and whose terms deviate from the lower $p$-series in a uniformly bounded way. This brings to light a new set of rational invariants, canonically associated to $G$, that yield the aforementioned uniform bound and that restrict the possible values for the Hausdorff dimensions of closed subgroups of $G$ with respect to the lower $p$-series. In particular, the Hausdorff spectrum of $G$ with respect to the lower $p$-series is discrete and consists of at most $2^d$ rational numbers.

Abstract:A map is called a {\it $p$-map} if it has a prime $p$-power vertices. An orientably-regular (resp. A regular ) $p$-map is called {\it solvable} if the group $G^+$ of all orientation-preserving automorphisms (resp. the group $G$ of automorphisms) is solvable; and called {\it normal} if $G^+$ (resp. $G$) contains the normal Sylow $p$-subgroup. In this paper, it will be proved that both orientably-regular $p$-maps and regular $p$-maps are solvable and except for few cases that $p\in \{2, 3\}$, they are normal. Moreover, nonnormal $p$-maps will be characterized and some properties and constructions of normal $p$-maps will be given.
