Abstract:Several research on the interaction between cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and skin have shown that the great potential of CAP used in transdermal drug delivery (TDD). In this study, a plasma jet array device was used to enhance TDD efficiency [1]. Total discharge current was measured, the peak value is about 1A and the current duration time is about 100ns. Full thickness Porcine ear skin was exposed to the plasma jet during treatment, the treatment time was 3 min and 6 min. Paten blue was used as model drug to study the TDD efficiency using a Franz diffusion cell system[2]. Skin surface temperature during plasma treatment was also measured by an Infrared Thermometer. Results show that, after 3 min and 6min plasma treatment, the TDD efficiency was increased by nearly 5 times and 30 times, respectively. As for safety aspect, although the discharge current peak value is 1A, the duration time of the current is only 100ns. Temperature of skin surface during treatment is about 37.5°C same as human body temperature. Therefore, the plasma jet array in this study is no risk of electric shock and heat, suitable for human body use.
