For this purpose we introduce the notion of an admissible orbifold, an admissible vector bundle, and various admissible objects associated to them, like an admissible section, and provide their fundamental properties.

Abstract:This is the second of a series of two articles in which we provide detailed and self-contained account of the construction of a system of Kuranishi structures on the moduli spaces of pseudo holomorphic disks. Using the notion of obstruction bundle data introduced in [FOOO8], we give a systematic way of constructing a system of Kuranishi structures on the moduli spaces of pseudo holomorphic disks which are compatible at the boundary and corners. More specifically, it defines a tree like K-system in the sense of [FOOO6, Definition 21.9]. The method given in this paper does not only simplify the description of the constructions in the earlier literature, but also is designed to provide a systematic utility tool for the construction of a system of Kuranishi structures in the future research. We also establish its uniqueness.

Abstract: This is the first part of the article we promised at the end of [FOOO13, Section 1]. We discuss the foundation of the virtual fundamental chain and cycle technique, especially its version appeared in [FOn] and also in [FOOO4, Section A1, Section 7.5], [FOOO7, Section 12], [Fu2]. In Part 1, we focus on the construction of the virtual fundamental chain on a single space with Kuranishi structure. We mainly discuss the de Rham version and so work over $\mathbb R$-coefficients, but we also include a self-contained account of the way how to work over $\mathbb Q$-coefficients in case the dimension of the space with Kuranishi structure is $\le 1$. Part 1 of this document is independent of our earlier writing [FOOO13]. We also do not assume the reader have any knowledge on the pseudo-holomorphic curve, in Part 1. Part 2 (resp. Part 3), which will appear in the near future, discusses the case of a system of Kuranishi structures and its simultaneous perturbations (resp. the way to implement the abstract story in the study of moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic curves).

Abstract: This is an expository article on the theory of Kuranishi structure and is based on a series of pdf files we uploaded for the discussion of the google group named `Kuranishi' (with its administrator H. Hofer). There we replied to several questions concerning Kuranishi structure raised by K. Wehrheim. At this stage we submit this article to the e-print arXiv, all the questions or objections asked in that google group were answered, supplemented or confuted by us. We first discuss the abstract theory of Kuranishi structure and virtual fundamental chain/cycle. This part can be read independently from other parts. We then describe the construction of Kuranishi structure on the moduli space of pseudoholomorphic curves, including the complete analytic detail of the gluing construction as well as the smoothness of the resulting Kuranishi structure. The case of S^1 equivariant Kuranishi structure which appears in the study of time independent Hamiltonian and the moduli space of Floer's equation is included.

Abstract:A Kuranishi space is a topological space with a Kuranishi structure, defined by Fukaya and Ono. Kuranishi structures occur naturally on moduli spaces of J-holomorphic curves in symplectic geometry. This paper is a brief introduction to the author's book <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0707.3572" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0707.3572">arXiv:0707.3572</a>. Let Y be an orbifold and R a Q-algebra. We define the Kuranishi homology KH_*(Y;R) of Y with coefficients in R. The chain complex KC_*(Y;R) defining KH_*(Y;R) is spanned over R by [X,f,G], for X a compact oriented Kuranishi space with corners, f : X --> Y smooth, and G "gauge-fixing data" which makes Aut(X,f,G) finite. Our main result is that KH_*(Y;R) is isomorphic to singular homology. We define a Poincare dual theory of Kuranishi cohomology KH^*(Y;R), isomorphic to compactly-supported cohomology, using a cochain complex KC^*(Y;R) spanned over R by [X,f,C], for X a compact Kuranishi space with corners, f : X --> Y a submersion, and C "co-gauge-fixing data". We also define simpler theories of Kuranishi bordism KB_*(Y;R) and Kuranishi cobordism KB^*(Y;R), for R a commutative ring. These are new topological invariants, and we show they are very large. These theories are powerful new tools in symplectic geometry. Defining virtual cycles and chains for moduli spaces of J-holomorphic curves is trivial in Kuranishi (co)homology. There is no need to perturb moduli spaces, and no problems with transversality. This gives major simplifications in Lagrangian Floer cohomology.

Abstract:This is the first of two articles in which we provide detailed and self-contained account of the construction of a system of Kuranishi structures on the moduli spaces of pseudo holomorphic disks, using the exponential decay estimate given in [FOOO7]. This article completes the construction of a Kuranishi structure of a single moduli space. This article is an improved version of [FOOO4, Part 4] and its mathematical content is taken from our earlier writing [FOn,FOOO2,FOOO4,FOOO7]. The version 2 contains a correction of typological errors in the statement of Lemma 10.11 and the statement of Proposition 10.4. The proof of them are not changed. (Note these places were written in the same way as version 1 in the version published in Surveys in Differential Geometry.)

Abstract:As we explained at the end of Chap. 4, it is more canonical to define the notion of fiber products of spaces with Kuranishi structure than to define that of fiber products of spaces with a good coordinate system. On the other hand, in Chap. 7, we gave the definition of CF-perturbation and of the pushout of differential forms via good coordinate systems. In this chapter, we describe how we go from a good coordinate system to a Kuranishi structure and back together with CF-perturbations on them, and prove in Theorem 9.14 that we can define the pushout via the Kuranishi structure itself in such a way that the outcome is independent of the auxiliary choice of good coordinate system.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold and $(E,\overline\partial_E,\theta)$ be a Higgs bundle over it. We study the structure of the Kuranishi space for the pair $(X, E,\theta)$ when the Higgs bundle admits a harmonic metric or equivalently when the Higgs bundle is polystable and the Chern classes are 0. Under such assumptions, we show that the Kuranishi space of the pair $(X,E,\theta)$ is isomorphic to the direct product of the Kuranishi space of $(E,\theta)$ and the Kuranishi space of $X$. Moreover, when $X$ is a Riemann surface and $(E,\overline\partial_E,\theta)$ is stable and the degree is 0, we show that the deformation of the pair $(X,E,\theta)$ is unobstructed and calculate the dimension of the Kuranishi space.

Abstract:The notion of good coordinate system was introduced by Fukaya and Ono in[FOn] in their construction of virtual fundamental chain via Kuranishistructure which was also introduced therein. This notion was further clarifiedin [FOOO1] in some detail. In those papers no explicit ambient space was usedand hence the process of gluing local Kuranishi charts in the given goodcoordinate system was not discussed there. In our more recent writing [FOOO2,FOOO3] we use an ambient space obtained by gluing the Kuranishi charts. In thisnote we prove in detail that we can always shrink the given good coordinatesystem so that the resulting `ambient space' becomes Hausdorff. This note isself-contained and uses only standard facts in general topology.

Abstract:We use equivariant methods to define and study the orbifold K-theory of an orbifold X. Adapting techniques from equivariant K-theory, we construct a Chern character and exhibit a multiplicative decomposition for K * orb (X)⊗ℚ, in particular showing that it is additively isomorphic to the orbifold cohomology of X. A number of examples are provided. We then use the theory of projective representations to define the notion of twisted orbifold K–theory in the presence of discrete torsion. An explicit expression for this is obtained in the case of a global quotient.

Abstract:We study the degeneration and the gluing of Kuranishi structures in Gromov-Witten theory under a symplectic cut. This leads us to a degeneration axiom and a gluing axiom for open Gromov-Witten invariants. They provide then a route to the construction of virtual fundamental chains via specialization. Comments on the equivalence of the degeneration formula of closed Gromov-Witten invariants by Li-Ruan/Li versus Ionel-Parker are given in the Appendix.

Abstract:An introduction to the theory of orbifolds from a modern perspective, combining techniques from geometry, algebraic topology and algebraic geometry. One of the main motivations, and a major source of examples, is string theory, where orbifolds play an important role. The subject is first developed following the classical description analogous to manifold theory, after which the book branches out to include the useful description of orbifolds provided by groupoids, as well as many examples in the context of algebraic geometry. Classical invariants such as de Rham cohomology and bundle theory are developed, a careful study of orbifold morphisms is provided, and the topic of orbifold K-theory is covered. The heart of this book, however, is a detailed description of the Chen-Ruan cohomology, which introduces a product for orbifolds and has had significant impact. The final chapter includes explicit computations for a number of interesting examples.
On boundedness and moduli spaces of K-stable Calabi-Yau fibrations over curves

Abstract:We show boundedness of polarized Calabi--Yau fibrations over curves only with fixed volumes of general fibers and Iitaka volumes. As its application, we construct a separated coarse moduli space of K-stable Calabi-Yau fibrations over curves in an adiabatic sense [Hat22b] and show that all members (resp. smooth members) of the moduli are simultaneously uniformly K-stable (resp. have cscK metrics) for a certain choice of polarizations.

Abstract:Kuranishi structures were introduced to symplectic topology by Fukaya and Ono and recently refined by Joyce, in order to extract homological data from compactified moduli spaces of holomorphic maps in cases where geometric regularization approaches such as perturbations of the almost complex structure do not yield a smooth structure on the moduli space. We give a general survey of regularization techniques in symplectic topology, pointing to some general analytic issues, and discussing some specific topological issues of the Kuranishi approach. In the main body of the paper we provide an abstract framework of Kuranishi atlases which separates the analytic and topological issues. Throughout, we focus on the most fundamental issues, which are already present in applying virtual transversality techniques to moduli spaces of holomorphic spheres without nodes or nontrivial isotropy. This is the reinstated 2013 version of this survey and sample construction. A generalized version of the topological theory is now available under 'The topology of Kuranishi atlases' <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1508.01844" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1508.01844">arXiv:1508.01844</a>, with the survey parts and VMC construction updated in 'The fundamental class of smooth Kuranishi atlases with trivial isotropy' <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1508.01560" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1508.01560">arXiv:1508.01560</a>.

Abstract:Suppose that X is an orbifold. In general, KX is an orbifold vector bundle or a Q-divisor only. When the X is so called Gorenstein, KX is a bundle or a divisor. For Gorenstein orbifold, a resolution π : Y → X is called a crepant resolution if πKX = KY . Here, ”crepant” can be viewed as a minimality condition with respect to canonical bundle. Crepant resolution always exists when dimension is two or three. A nice way to construct it is to use Hilbert scheme of points. However, the crepant resolution in dimension three is not unique. Different crepant resolutions are connected by flops. When the dimension is bigger than four, the crepant resolution does not always exist. It is an extremely interesting problem in algebraic geometry to find out when it does exist. One of famous example is Hilbert scheme of points of algebraic surfaces, which is a crepant resolution of the symmetry product of an algebraic surface. It has long been an interesting problem to compute cohomology of Hilbert scheme of points of algebraic surfaces. A great deal of works has been done by algebraic geometors. As far as the author’s knowledge, everything has been computed except its ring structure. Among all the progress, a less known but crucial ingredient is the link to the orbifold cohomology of the symmetry product. Suppose that M is an algebraic surface. We use M [n] to denote the Hilbert scheme of points of length n of M . In 1994, in order to explain the modularity of the generating function ∑∞ n=1 χ(M [n])qn computed by Göttsche [G], Vafa-Witten [VW] computed ⊕nH (M/Sn,C). Motivated by orbifold conformal field theory, they directly wrote ⊕nH (M/Sn,C) as a ”Fock space” or a representation of Heisenberg algebra. Then, the generating function of Euler characteristic is interpreted as the correlation function of an elliptic curve. Therefore, it should be invariant under modular transformations of the elliptic curve. Orbifold string theory conjecture predicates that ⊕nH ∗(M [n],C) should also admit a representation of Heisenberg algebra. This conjecture was verified by a beautiful work of Nakajima [N] and others. One of theme of this short note is that the orbifold M/Sn will continue to play a crucial role to compute ring structure of H∗(M [n],C). During last two years, there was a surge of activities to study mathematics of the orbifold string theory, which author called the stringy orbifolds. A few curious physical concepts such as the orbifold Euler-Hodge numbers of global quotients found their places in a much broader and deeper theory. For example, a new cohomology (orbifold cohomology) was constructed [CR1]. The growth was so explosive that the author believes that there is an emerging new subject of mathematics. He learned in graduate school that the test of the relevance of a new theory has been the progress it made from old problems. Therefore, it is particularly significant to revisit the problem of computing the ring structure of M [n] and a crepant resolution in general. In [R2], the author proposed a conjecture in the case of a hyperkahler resolution.

Abstract:In this article we develop a new approach to the problem of the stability of locally conformally Kähler structures (l.c.k structures) under small deformations of complex structures and deformations of flat line bundles. We show that under the certain cohomological condition the stability of l.c.k structures does hold. We apply our approach to Hopf manifolds and its generalizations to obtain the stability of l.c.k structures which do not have potential in general. We give an explicit description of the cohomological obstructions of the stability of l.c.k structures on Inoue surfaces with $b_2=0$.
