Abstract:Abstract Power-to-X technology can convert surplus renewable power into energy-dense fuels through electrolyzers and sequent fuel synthesis processes so as to store renewable energy sources with zero self-discharge losses. Power-to-gas (PtG) and power-to-liquid (PtL) are two main power-to-X routes. In this chapter, we show some specific case studies of typical PtG or PtL systems, including power-to-H2 (PtH), power-to-syngas (PtS), power-to-methane (PtM), power-to-methanol (PtMe), power-to-F-T fuels, etc. For each technological pathway, we try to offer more information about the system layouts, the technical characteristics, energy efficiency, and economic feasibility to reveal their potential in the future energy share and interaction.
