Abstract:Since 1978,Chinese state had been forming a new style developmental state,with the character- istics of developmentalism,economic statism,the cooperation between government and business,and the state corporatism.While it played art important role in China's development,it also brought about many negative effects.After 2002,Chinese state had begun its process to go beyond the developmental state. The promotion of scientific development and building a harmonious society increasingly become the theme of China's development.In order to go beyond the developmental state,many efforts should be exerted as the following,building a public service government,and a comprehensive social policy system;adjusting the economy structure and reconstruct the relationship between government and market;cultivating the civil society,and reconstruct the relationship between state and society;building the healthy system with the rule of law,on which the beneficial interaction between government,market and civil society can be fulfilled.

Abstract:This article describes and makes sense of why and how China’s communications was undeveloped from the late Qing Dynasty through the Civil War. The purpose is to bring into sharp focus the imprint of global capitalism and imperialism on China’s domestic social-spatial relations as well as the well-entrenched underdevelopment dynamics in communications. It argues that communications, shaped successively by historical configurations of relationships, domesticated spatially China’s peripheral position in the world capitalist system. This spatiality, expressing internal underdevelopment and external subordination, had never been effectively overhauled and even remained true of socialist modernity after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), which then has informed and deformed communications development since the country’s market reform.

Abstract:The “third sphere” born of the interacting of a market economy with a centralized state, and of a system of market contracting 合同 with administrative “assigning responsibility” 发包/承包, has become a key characteristic of the new political-economic system of Reform China. It has imported the private enterprise market economy of the modern West, but has also retained the (revolutionary) tradition of a socialist party-state and its ownership of the principal means of production. Its administrative system resembles more and more the modern West’s (Weberian) bureaucratic system, but it has also retained the traditional imperial Chinese “centralized minimalism” and “parcelized despotism” characteristics. It cannot be grasped by the either/or dualistic opposites mode of thinking, but can only be understood in terms of the combining and interacting of dualistic opposites. The combination may be understood as one concrete and substantive meaning of the officialized term of a “socialist market economy.”

Abstract:China’s path is conceived as a transition from an economically underdeveloped and semi-colonised country of the Global South into a modern socialist country in a multipolar world where successive steps (modes of regulation) were shaped by China’s external environment (uneven and combined development) and a succession of contradictions and crises encountered along the way. Three phases are examined: a turbulent phase of socialist construction in a context of capital shortage and US embargoes; a phase of reform and opening up in an era of neoliberal globalisation, whose early roots lay in the early 1970s’ rapprochement with the US; and a New Era dating from 2017. In each phase, crises and contradictions saw waves of reform, involving successive joint transformations of economic structures and institutions, while each phase was anticipated in the years that preceded it, so opening up started in the early 1970s with the rapprochement with the US, and aspects of the New Era concern with innovation, green development, common prosperity and an equitable global order started to emerge earlier.

Abstract:Chinese modernization is formed in the historical process that adapts Marxism to the Chinese context and to the needs of our times. It represents a great initiative of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people. Chinese modernization has broken through the problematic model of capital-centered modernization found in Western countries, and has established a model of people-centered socialist modernization that has enormous global importance. The essential requirements of Chinese modernization in the new journey of the new era are as follows: upholding the leadership of the Communist Party of China and socialism with Chinese characteristics; pursuing high-quality development; developing whole-process people's democracy; enriching the cultural lives of the people; achieving common prosperity for all; promoting harmony between humanity and nature; building a human community with a shared future; and creating a new form of human advancement. This is necessary not only for building a modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, but also for further adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and to the needs of our times.

Abstract:To examine the directions and developmental process of China's socialist construction at a time when the Chinese economy is growing rapidly despite the current world economic crisis is an act of no ordinary significance.Broadly speaking,China's sixty years of socialist construction can be divided into two phases:the first thirty years from 1949 to 1979 and the second thirty from 1979 to 2009.The first thirty years of China's socialist revolution and construction laid a solid foundation for the reform and opening up of the next thirty years,a period in which China's continued exploration of new directions led to spectacular achievements.History teaches us that the linchpin of building socialism is not whether you have a detailed blueprint for socialism,but whether you have a grand vision for understanding socialism and the courage to direct socialist construction.Although China today faces many problems and even grave challenges,we will open up an ever wider path for socialism with Chinese characteristics so long as our country adheres to the direction of socialism.

Abstract:The material disparity with the West, and the havoc wreaked in the period of Japanese imperial encroachment on Chinese territory and autonomy after the First Opium War, have shaped and guided China's collective memory and its shared desire of national rejuvenation to this day. In tracing the deeper historical roots of what Xi Jinping contemporarily frames as a "Chinese dream" of "wealth and power," the article discerns key actors, events, and organizing principles in a long process toward restoring China's deemed rightful place in the regional system. Taking into account the region-specific socio-historical complex of China and East Asia, and further exploring the parameters of an International Relations theory with "Chinese characteristics," the article's comparative historical analysis details how China's leaders have chosen to mobilize the nation's "domestic resources" in their common pursuit of national rejuvenation. Providing greater insight into how and according to which interlinked domestic and foreign explanatory markers this is attained, the article argues that we are currently in the last phase of rejuvenation and advances implications for China's further trajectory.

Common prosperity is an important feature and essential requirement of the Chinese path to modernization. This journal presents a series of written discussions on the major issues in this area such as the universality of common prosperity,the Chinese path to modernization,and the provincial first exploration of practice pathways. People-centered modernization leads to common prosperity. The fundamental pathway for human modernization is to improve the allocation of rights and opportunities to achieve the general equality of capabilities. The team of private entrepreneurs in Zhejiang is a valuable resource and bearer of high-quality development and common prosperity in Zhejiang. The high-quality development of the private economy is related to the Chinese path to modernization. Common prosperity and provincial modernization in advance conform to the general law of socialist development and evolving modernization,laying a Chinese path to universal modernization. Abstract:This paper provides an in-depth analysis on China's transition and development path.So far,China's e- conomic reform maintains the pre-reform rural-urban segmentation,economic decentralization and relational gov- ernance,albeit to a different extent.The associated political and social structure are conducive to capital accu- mulation,getting incentive right and contractual enforcement in the early stage of development,while they incur some costs such as increasingly widening income gaps,which have some negative effects on economic growth, poverty-reduction and social mobility,posing great challenges for sustainable and harmonious development. Hence,before the costs come to a threshold,China should make some corresponding gradual changes in politi- cal and social structure,leading to a unique China development model.
