Abstract:The blooming market needs for wearable devices have propelled the research of on-chip flexible micro-supercapacitors. Planar micro-supercapacitors are superior to sandwich structure in terms of device integration compatibility. In this work, a cost -effective inkjet printing method was adopted to fabricate high resolution and flexible interdigitated silver electrode, followed by two-step electrochemical deposition and thus, the unique Nickel (Ni)@ Manganese dioxide (MnO2) dendritical core-shell structure is achieved for pseudocapacitor application. The as-built pseudocapacitor device achieves an areal capacitance of 37.3 mF cm-2 which is among the highest as compared with previously reports for planar devices. In addition, the concept of pseudocapacitor artistic design was demonstrated in this work. Utilizing printing technique, various artistic patterns have been generated followed by supercapacitor device fabrication and performance characterization. It is shown that the devices have respectable performance and good robustness. These results demonstrate the versatility of the device fabrication process developed here, and the viability as supplementary power sources of the printable micro-supercapacitors for flexible and wearable electronics.
