Abstract:This paper discusses the main challenges of building a global digital society with an exponential growth rate. It mainly involves connected objects that are physically and therefore materially dependent on electronics, microelectronics and nanotechnologies. The challenges are therefore focused on this discipline in terms of increasing integration, increasingly fast communications and energy consumption that is growing exponentially and must be controlled. These challenges will only be overcome if the training of engineering technicians and doctors is adapted to these technological needs, both in initial and lifelong training, by ensuring solid knowledge acquisition and associated essential know-how. The strategy adopted by the French national training network for this development is presented and discussed. It pays particular attention to the need to share several technological platforms and design tools because of their increasing cost and to create innovative practical training to meet the needs of society and the fourth industrial revolution (industry 4.0.). Examples of achievements and data on the training courses organized will complete this document.
