Abstract:The precise vertex reconstruction for large liquid scintillator detectors is essential. A novel machine learning-based method was successfully developed to reconstruct an event vertex in JUNO. In this study, the performance of machine learning-based vertex reconstruction was further improved by optimizing the input images of neural networks. By separating the information of different types of PMTs and adding the information of the second hit of PMTs, the vertex resolution was improved by approximately 9.4 % at 1 MeV and 9.8 % at 11 MeV.
Mesh-LOAM: Real-time Mesh-Based LiDAR Odometry and Mapping

Abstract:Despite having achieved real-time performance in mesh construction, most of the current LiDAR odometry and meshing methods may struggle to deal with complex scenes due to relying on explicit meshing schemes. They are usually sensitive to noise. To overcome these limitations, we propose a real-time mesh-based LiDAR odometry and mapping approach for large-scale scenes via implicit reconstruction and a parallel spatial-hashing scheme. To efficiently reconstruct triangular meshes, we suggest an incremental voxel meshing method that updates every scan by traversing each point once and compresses space via a scalable partition module. By taking advantage of rapid accessing triangular meshes at any time, we design point-to-mesh odometry with location and feature-based data association to estimate the poses between the incoming point clouds and the recovered triangular meshes. The experimental results on four datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in generating accurate motion trajectories and environmental mesh maps.
HVOFusion: Incremental Mesh Reconstruction Using Hybrid Voxel Octree

Abstract:Incremental scene reconstruction is essential to the navigation in robotics. Most of the conventional methods typically make use of either TSDF (truncated signed distance functions) volume or neural networks to implicitly represent the surface. Due to the voxel representation or involving with time-consuming sampling, they have difficulty in balancing speed, memory storage, and surface quality. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid voxel-octree approach to effectively fuse octree with voxel structures so that we can take advantage of both implicit surface and explicit triangular mesh representation. Such sparse structure preserves triangular faces in the leaf nodes and produces partial meshes sequentially for incremental reconstruction. This storage scheme allows us to naturally optimize the mesh in explicit 3D space to achieve higher surface quality. We iteratively deform the mesh towards the target and recovers vertex colors by optimizing a shading model. Experimental results on several datasets show that our proposed approach is capable of quickly and accurately reconstructing a scene with realistic colors.

Zero-Shot Scene Reconstruction from Single Images with Deep Prior Assembly

Abstract:Large language and vision models have been leading a revolution in visual computing. By greatly scaling up sizes of data and model parameters, the large models learn deep priors which lead to remarkable performance in various tasks. In this work, we present deep prior assembly, a novel framework that assembles diverse deep priors from large models for scene reconstruction from single images in a zero-shot manner. We show that this challenging task can be done without extra knowledge but just simply generalizing one deep prior in one sub-task. To this end, we introduce novel methods related to poses, scales, and occlusion parsing which are keys to enable deep priors to work together in a robust way. Deep prior assembly does not require any 3D or 2D data-driven training in the task and demonstrates superior performance in generalizing priors to open-world scenes. We conduct evaluations on various datasets, and report analysis, numerical and visual comparisons with the latest methods to show our superiority. Deep Learning-Based Digital Surface Model Reconstruction of ZY-3 Satellite Imagery

Abstract:This study introduces a novel satellite image digital surface model (DSM) reconstruction framework grounded in deep learning methodology. The proposed framework effectively utilizes a rational polynomial camera (RPC) model to establish the mapping relationship between image coordinates and geographic coordinates. Given the expansive coverage and abundant ground object data inherent in satellite images, we designed a lightweight deep network model. This model facilitates both coarse and fine estimation of a height map through two distinct stages. Our approach harnesses shallow and deep image information via a feature extraction module, subsequently employing RPC Warping to construct feature volumes for various angles. We employ variance as a similarity metric to achieve image matching and derive the fused cost volume. Following this, we aggregate cost information across different scales and height directions using a regularization module. This process yields the confidence level of the current height plane, which is then regressed to predict the height map. Once the height map from stage 1 is obtained, we gauge the prediction's uncertainty based on the variance in the probability distribution in the height direction. This allows us to adjust the height estimation range according to this uncertainty, thereby enabling precise height value prediction in stage 2. After conducting geometric consistency detection filtering of fine height maps from diverse viewpoints, we generate 3D point clouds through the inverse projection of RPC models. Finally, we resample these 3D point clouds to produce high-precision DSM products. By analyzing the results of our method's height map predictions and comparing them with existing deep learning-based reconstruction methods, we assess the DSM reconstruction performance of our proposed framework. The experimental findings underscore the robustness of our method against discontinuous regions, occlusions, uneven illumination areas in satellite imagery, and weak texture regions during height map generation. Furthermore, the reconstructed digital surface model (DSM) surpasses existing solutions in terms of completeness and root mean square error metrics while concurrently reducing the model parameters by 42.93%. This optimization markedly diminishes memory usage, thereby conserving both software and hardware resources as well as system overhead. Such savings pave the way for a more efficient system design and development process.

Multi-view Stereo Reconstruction Via Voxel Clustering and Optimization of Parallel Volumetric Graph Cuts

Abstract:Traditional multi-view stereo reconstruction via volumetric graph cuts formulates the 3D reconstruction problem as a computationally tractable global optimization using graph cuts. It benefits from a volumetric scene representation and discrete photo consistency is defined on the edge cost with a weighted graph. As the independence between each discrete voxel, it is natural to do the parallel processing with multi-core CPUs or GPU, but after the photo consistency has been estimated, it still need to design a parallel optimized methods to get the optimized labeling results for each voxel. In our paper, we use the parallel volumetric graph cuts methods to solve the above problems. Our algorithm has two main steps, clustering step and parallel graph cuts optimization step. We also introduce an approach for enhancing accuracy and speeding up existing Multi-view 3D reconstruction methods, which based on volumetric graph cuts. The main idea is to decompose the collected photos into some overlapping sets, while the voxels are also be clustered. The voxels consistency estimating and surface labeling with graph cuts are processed in parallel, however, the labels of the overlapped voxels may in general have multiple label solutions. It will be constrained to be equal to obtain a unique solution in parallel graph cuts optimization step.
Deep Medial Voxels: Learned Medial Axis Approximations for Anatomical Shape Modeling

Abstract:Shape reconstruction from imaging volumes is a recurring need in medical image analysis. Common workflows start with a segmentation step, followed by careful post-processing and,finally, ad hoc meshing algorithms. As this sequence can be timeconsuming, neural networks are trained to reconstruct shapes through template deformation. These networks deliver state-ofthe-art results without manual intervention, but, so far, they have primarily been evaluated on anatomical shapes with little topological variety between individuals. In contrast, other works favor learning implicit shape models, which have multiple benefits for meshing and visualization. Our work follows this direction by introducing deep medial voxels, a semi-implicit representation that faithfully approximates the topological skeleton from imaging volumes and eventually leads to shape reconstruction via convolution surfaces. Our reconstruction technique shows potential for both visualization and computer simulations.

VI3DRM:Towards meticulous 3D Reconstruction from Sparse Views via Photo-Realistic Novel View Synthesis

Abstract:Recently, methods like Zero-1-2-3 have focused on single-view based 3D reconstruction and have achieved remarkable success. However, their predictions for unseen areas heavily rely on the inductive bias of large-scale pretrained diffusion models. Although subsequent work, such as DreamComposer, attempts to make predictions more controllable by incorporating additional views, the results remain unrealistic due to feature entanglement in the vanilla latent space, including factors such as lighting, material, and structure. To address these issues, we introduce the Visual Isotropy 3D Reconstruction Model (VI3DRM), a diffusion-based sparse views 3D reconstruction model that operates within an ID consistent and perspective-disentangled 3D latent space. By facilitating the disentanglement of semantic information, color, material properties and lighting, VI3DRM is capable of generating highly realistic images that are indistinguishable from real photographs. By leveraging both real and synthesized images, our approach enables the accurate construction of pointmaps, ultimately producing finely textured meshes or point clouds. On the NVS task, tested on the GSO dataset, VI3DRM significantly outperforms state-of-the-art method DreamComposer, achieving a PSNR of 38.61, an SSIM of 0.929, and an LPIPS of 0.027. Abstract:This paper addresses outdoor terrain mapping using overhead images obtained from an unmanned aerial vehicle. Dense depth estimation from aerial images during flight is challenging. While feature-based localization and mapping techniques can deliver real-time odometry and sparse points reconstruction, a dense environment model is generally recovered offline with significant computation and storage. This paper develops a joint 2D-3D learning approach to reconstruct local meshes at each camera keyframe, which can be assembled into a global environment model. Each local mesh is initialized from sparse depth measurements. We associate image features with the mesh vertices through camera projection and apply graph convolution to refine the mesh vertices based on joint 2-D reprojected depth and 3-D mesh supervision. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations using real aerial images show the potential of our method to support environmental monitoring and surveillance applications.

A method of detector and event visualization with Unity in JUNO

Abstract:A visualization method based on Unity engine is proposed for the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment. The method has been applied in development of a new event display tool named ELAINA (Event Live Animation with unIty for Neutrino Analysis), which provides an intuitive way for users to observe the detector geometry, to tune the reconstruction algorithm and to analyze the physics events. In comparison with the traditional ROOT-based event display, ELAINA provides better visual effects with the Unity engine. It is developed independently of the JUNO offline software but shares the same detector description and event data model in JUNO offline with interfaces. Users can easily download and run the event display on their local computers with different operation systems.

Abstract:We introduce VERTEX, an effective solution to recover 3D shape and intrinsic texture of vehicles from uncalibrated monocular input in real-world street environments. To fully utilize the template prior of vehicles, we propose a novel geometry and texture joint representation, based on implicit semantic template mapping. Compared to existing representations which infer 3D texture distribution, our method explicitly constrains the texture distribution on the 2D surface of the template as well as avoids limitations of fixed resolution and topology. Moreover, by fusing the global and local features together, our approach is capable to generate consistent and detailed texture in both visible and invisible areas. We also contribute a new synthetic dataset containing 830 elaborate textured car models labeled with sparse key points and rendered using Physically Based Rendering (PBRT) system with measured HDRI skymaps to obtain highly realistic images. Experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our approach on both testing dataset and in-the-wild images. Furthermore, the presented technique enables additional applications such as 3D vehicle texture transfer and material identification.

Deep3DSketch+: Rapid 3D Modeling from Single Free-hand Sketches

Abstract:The rapid development of AR/VR brings tremendous demands for 3D content. While the widely-used Computer-Aided Design (CAD) method requires a time-consuming and labor-intensive modeling process, sketch-based 3D modeling offers a potential solution as a natural form of computer-human interaction. However, the sparsity and ambiguity of sketches make it challenging to generate high-fidelity content reflecting creators' ideas. Precise drawing from multiple views or strategic step-by-step drawings is often required to tackle the challenge but is not friendly to novice users. In this work, we introduce a novel end-to-end approach, Deep3DSketch+, which performs 3D modeling using only a single free-hand sketch without inputting multiple sketches or view information. Specifically, we introduce a lightweight generation network for efficient inference in real-time and a structural-aware adversarial training approach with a Stroke Enhancement Module (SEM) to capture the structural information to facilitate learning of the realistic and fine-detailed shape structures for high-fidelity performance. Extensive experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach with the state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on both synthetic and real datasets.

Disjoint Pose and Shape for 3D Face Reconstruction

Abstract:Existing methods for 3D face reconstruction from a few casually captured images employ deep learning based models along with a 3D Morphable Model(3DMM) as face geometry prior. Structure From Motion(SFM), followed by Multi-View Stereo (MVS), on the other hand, uses dozens of high-resolution images to reconstruct accurate 3D faces.However, it produces noisy and stretched-out results with only two views available. In this paper, taking inspiration from both these methods, we propose an end-to-end pipeline that disjointly solves for pose and shape to make the optimization stable and accurate. We use a face shape prior to estimate face pose and use stereo matching followed by a 3DMM to solve for the shape. The proposed method achieves end-to-end topological consistency, enables iterative face pose refinement procedure, and show remarkable improvement on both quantitative and qualitative results over existing state-of-the-art methods.

Deep Point Cloud Reconstruction

Abstract:Point cloud obtained from 3D scanning is often sparse, noisy, and irregular. To cope with these issues, recent studies have been separately conducted to densify, denoise, and complete inaccurate point cloud. In this paper, we advocate that jointly solving these tasks leads to significant improvement for point cloud reconstruction. To this end, we propose a deep point cloud reconstruction network consisting of two stages: 1) a 3D sparse stacked-hourglass network as for the initial densification and denoising, 2) a refinement via transformers converting the discrete voxels into 3D points. In particular, we further improve the performance of transformer by a newly proposed module called amplified positional encoding. This module has been designed to differently amplify the magnitude of positional encoding vectors based on the points' distances for adaptive refinements. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our network achieves state-of-the-art performance among the recent studies in the ScanNet, ICL-NUIM, and ShapeNetPart datasets. Moreover, we underline the ability of our network to generalize toward real-world and unmet scenes.

Deep Surface Reconstruction from Point Clouds with Visibility Information

Abstract:Most current neural networks for reconstructing surfaces from point clouds ignore sensor poses and only operate on raw point locations. Sensor visibility, however, holds meaningful information regarding space occupancy and surface orientation. In this paper, we present two simple ways to augment raw point clouds with visibility information, so it can directly be leveraged by surface reconstruction networks with minimal adaptation. Our proposed modifications consistently improve the accuracy of generated surfaces as well as the generalization ability of the networks to unseen shape domains. Deep Mesh Reconstruction from Single RGB Images via Topology Modification Networks

Abstract:Reconstructing the 3D mesh of a general object from a single image is now possible thanks to the latest advances of deep learning technologies. However, due to the nontrivial difficulty of generating a feasible mesh structure, the state-of-the-art approaches often simplify the problem by learning the displacements of a template mesh that deforms it to the target surface. Though reconstructing a 3D shape with complex topology can be achieved by deforming multiple mesh patches, it remains difficult to stitch the results to ensure a high meshing quality. In this paper, we present an end-to-end single-view mesh reconstruction framework that is able to generate high-quality meshes with complex topologies from a single genus-0 template mesh. The key to our approach is a novel progressive shaping framework that alternates between mesh deformation and topology modification. While a deformation network predicts the per-vertex translations that reduce the gap between the reconstructed mesh and the ground truth, a novel topology modification network is employed to prune the error-prone faces, enabling the evolution of topology. By iterating over the two procedures, one can progressively modify the mesh topology while achieving higher reconstruction accuracy. Moreover, a boundary refinement network is designed to refine the boundary conditions to further improve the visual quality of the reconstructed mesh. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively, especially for the shapes with complex topologies.

3D Face Reconstruction Using A Spectral-Based Graph Convolution Encoder

Abstract:Monocular 3D face reconstruction plays a crucial role in avatar generation, with significant demand in web-related applications such as generating virtual financial advisors in FinTech. Current reconstruction methods predominantly rely on deep learning techniques and employ 2D self-supervision as a means to guide model learning. However, these methods encounter challenges in capturing the comprehensive 3D structural information of the face due to the utilization of 2D images for model training purposes. To overcome this limitation and enhance the reconstruction of 3D structural features, we propose an innovative approach that integrates existing 2D features with 3D features to guide the model learning process. Specifically, we introduce the 3D-ID Loss, which leverages the high-dimensional structure features extracted from a Spectral-Based Graph Convolution Encoder applied to the facial mesh. This approach surpasses the sole reliance on the 3D information provided by the facial mesh vertices coordinates. Our model is trained using 2D-3D data pairs from a combination of datasets and achieves state-of-the-art performance on the NoW benchmark.

Deep Image Reconstruction using Unregistered Measurements without Groundtruth

Abstract:One of the key limitations in conventional deep learning based image reconstruction is the need for registered pairs of training images containing a set of high-quality groundtruth images. This paper addresses this limitation by proposing a novel unsupervised deep registration-augmented reconstruction method (U-Dream) for training deep neural nets to reconstruct high-quality images by directly mapping pairs of unregistered and artifact-corrupted images. The ability of U-Dream to circumvent the need for accurately registered data makes it widely applicable to many biomedical image reconstruction tasks. We validate it in accelerated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by training an image reconstruction model directly on pairs of undersampled measurements from images that have undergone nonrigid deformations.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a practical three-dimensional (3D) real-scene reconstruction framework named Deep3D, which is paired with a deep learning based multi-view stereo (MVS) matching model named the adaptive multi-view aggregation matching (Ada-MVS) model, to obtain a 3D textured mesh model from multi-view oblique aerial images. Deep3D is the first deep learning based framework for 3D scene reconstruction, in which aerial triangulation and view selection are first performed on the input images, and the depth map of each image is then inferred using the pretrained Ada-MVS model. All the inferred depth maps are then fused into a dense point cloud after filtering the outliers. Finally, the 3D textured mesh is extracted from the dense 3D points as the final product. In the Ada-MVS model, a novel adaptive inter-view aggregation module is specially proposed to address the inconsistent information among oblique views and to fuse the multi-view costs into a robust cost volume. A lightweight recurrent regularization module is also designed for high-efficiency processing of high-capacity aerial images with large depth variations. Moreover, as oblique aerial image datasets are currently lacking, we built a large-scale synthetic multi-view oblique aerial image dataset (WHU-OMVS dataset) for deep learning based model training and methodology evaluation for the task of 3D scene reconstruction. The experimental results show that, firstly, the proposed Ada-MVS model has obvious advantages when used with high-capacity oblique aerial images, compared with several relevant learning-based MVS methods. Secondly, through a comprehensive comparison with popular commercial software packages and open-source solutions, it is shown that the proposed Deep3D framework outperforms all the other solutions in terms of reconstruction quality, and outperforms all the open-source solutions and some of the software packages in terms of efficiency on the WHU-OMVS dataset. Thirdly, the Deep3D framework shows a stable generalization ability and excellent performance when applied to other oblique or nadir aerial images, without any further fine-tuning. Abstract:Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is an extensively used active three-dimensional (3D) measurement technique. However, it faces challenges in achieving synchronous improvement of measurement range, speed, accuracy and shadow issues. To meet the demand for rapid 3D reconstruction of two projection views only using a single-shot phase-shifting grating, we initially propose a fast and large-scale 3D reconstruction system based on deep learning with a dual-projector and single-camera configuration, named DL_DPSL. The key feature is that the entire measurement process only requires two projectors to project one image simultaneously. To validate the effect, we constructed a simulated and a real system and corresponding simulation ( ˜3300 sets) and real dataset ( ˜1000 sets) respectively. The experimental results show that based ResUNet the DL_DPSL system can recover the phases of two projection views from one-shot superimposed phase-shifting grating within 0.018 s inclusive projection time when using two NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards.
