Abstract:Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE or e-waste) is the most rapidly growing sector of the waste stream in the world, and the majority of the residues frequently reach to unauthorized sectors in developing countries. Waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) make up the major portion of e-waste, and their informal recycling can cause environmental pollution and health risks. In this context, the rapid generation of waste PCBs has become a very serious issue worldwide. However, several techniques have been developed in the last decade to address the pollution issue due to waste PCBs recycling, and also recovery of valuable metals from the waste PCBs stream on a large scale. However, each technique has its own certain specific disadvantages that need to be rectified properly. In this chapter, the different recycling technologies have been briefly evaluated based on present scenarios. Additionally, it is warranted that substantial research is essential to improve (efficiency and both technically and economically feasible) the recycling for waste PCBs management in the outlook of large-scale applications.
