Abstract:In this paper, a novel flower-like BiOI/MnO2 composite was synthesized by two simple steps. The crystal structure, morphology, surface element analysis, and optical properties of as-prepared samples were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrometry (DRS). Photocatalytic activities of the prepared photocatalysts were evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of RhB under simulated light irradiation. When 50mg of a BiOI/MnO2 composite with a mass ratio of 5/1 was used to degrade RhB aqueous solution (100 mL, 20 mg L-1), the degradation efficiency could reach 99.18% within 60 min under simulated solar light irradiation. In addition, the photocatalyst exhibited good stability. After four cycles, the degradation efficiency of the BiOI/MnO2 (5/1) composite could reach 92.8% within 80 min. The probable photocatalytic mechanism of photocatalysts was investigated by active species trapping experiments and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The results showed that the superior photocatalytic activity of the BiOI/MnO2 composite is derived from the generation and transfer of photogenerated carriers between MnO2 and BiOI.

Abstract:The binary flower-like BiOI/CoFe2O4 photocatalysts with magnetic retrievability were successfully synthesized via coprecipitation method. The effects of composite ratio on the microstructure, morphology, optical, photo-electrochemical and photocatalytic properties of the samples were studied. The experimental results show that BiOI/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites contain tetragonal structure BiOI and cubic spinel structure CoFe2O4 with good crystallization. Spherical CoFe2O4 nanoparticles are uniformly decorated on the surface of BiOI nanosheets to establish hierarchical flower-like 3D- BiOI/CoF2O4 heterojunctions. BiOI/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites show excellent visible light absorption ability. PL spectra show the intensity decrease for BiOI/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites. BiOI/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites can promote the separation of photon-generated carriers, improve the migration efficiency, and improve the redox activity of nanocomposites. BiOI/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites exhibit better photocatalytic activity during the process of degrading the RhB dye solution under the irradiation of simulated visible light. The degradation efficiency of BiOI/CFO-3 photocatalysts is 80.24% after 3 cycles, and exhibit better recyclable stability. Also, ·O2− is the main reactive species in the degradation process, which plays a crucial role in the RhB degradation.

Abstract:Flower-shaped BiOI@SnS2 nanocomposites were synthesized by the coprecipitation method. The effects of different composite ratios on the chemical composition, microstructure, morphology, optical properties, photoelectric chemical properties and photocatalytic properties of the samples were discussed. And the photocatalytic performance of the samples were evaluated by the photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) in an aqueous solution under the xenon lamp. The experimental results demonstrated that BiOI@SnS2 nanocomposites were three-dimensional nanoflower-like microsphere structures with good crystallization. BiOI@SnS2 nanocomposites can improve visible light absorption due to their larger specific surface area and optimized energy band structure. BiOI@SnS2 heterojunction can effectively broaden the light visible light response range, accelerate the separation of photogenerated carriers and inhibit the recombination of electron-hole pairs. BiOI@SnS2 Z-scheme heterojunction exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity compared with pure BiOI and SnS2 photocatalysts in the degradation of RhB and the photocatalytic degradation rate of BiOI@SnS2-2 reached 76.8% after 90 min. In addition,.O2− and OH as the main active species in the photocatalytic degradation of RhB.

Abstract:Bi2WO6 was modified with MnOx via a photodeposition method. Multiple techniques including XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-vis and XPS were applied to investigate the structures, morphologies and optical characteristics of the as-prepared sample. The nanostructured composites were formed with MnOx loaded on the surface of flower-like Bi2WO6, where MnOx exists as a mixed-valence manganese of Mn3+ and Mn4+ as verified by XPS. The photocatalytic activity of the MnOx/Bi2WO6 composites was evaluated by using rhodamine B (RhB) as a target organic pollutant under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared MnOx/Bi2WO6 composites exhibited much higher photocatalytic activities than pure Bi2WO6. The enhanced activities were attributed to the interfacial transfer of photogenerated holes from Bi2WO6 to MnOx, leading to effective way to improve photocatalytic efficiency, which may be extended to a strategy for other semiconductor. Based on the experimental results, a possible mechanism of MnOx for the enhancement of visible light performance was proposed.

Abstract:A series of BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalysts with heterostructures was successfully synthetized through a facile hydrothermal method. Attributed to the heterostructure between BiOI and Bi5O7I, photogenerated electrons and holes can be separated efficiently. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared samples was evaluated through the MO degradation reaction. The removal rate of MO was up to 93% after 40 min under visible light (lambda >= 400 nm) irradiation, while the photocatalytic activity showed no decay after 3 cycles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic mechanism of MO degradation over the BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalyst was investigated by taking TA, H2O2 and EDTA as probes. The experimental results indicate that the enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the synergistic effect of photogenerated holes and superoxide radicals. The excellent activity and photostability reveal that the BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalyst is a promising visible-light-response photocatalyst with potential applications in the field of water treatment.

Abstract:Sn doped and BiOI coupled dual modified Bi2WO6 photocatalytic material was prepared using hydrothermal route. The phase composition, morphology, surface area, elemental composition and oxidation state, as well as optical properties, were comprehensively characterized. Take the methylene blue (MB) as the model pollutant for photodegradation to estimate the photocatalytic property of the synthesized material. The prepared Bi2WO6- based composite material shows a flower-like structure assembled from nanosheets, with a surface area of 45.3 m2 /g and a bandgap width of 2.41 eV, enabling visible light responsiveness. The synergistic effect of Sn doping and BiOI coupling modification enhances the photocatalytic performance. The Sn-BiOI/Bi2WO6 photocatalytic composite material shows excellent photocatalytic activity, with complete degradation of MB after 40 minutes of illumination, and a first-order reaction rate constant (k) of 0.102 min–1 . Experimental evidence suggests that photoinduced holes are the main active species.

Abstract:Flower-like Bi2WO6 and Bi2O3–Bi2WO6 composite microstructures have been synthesized via a facile and rapid microwave-assisted hydrothermal method through controlling the experimental parameters. The phases and morphologies of the products are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersion X-ray analysis (EDX), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Photocatalytic experiments indicate that such Bi2O3–Bi2WO6 composite possesses higher photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation under visible-light irradiation in comparison with pure Bi2O3 and Bi2WO6. On the basis of the calculated energy band positions, the enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the effective separation of electron–hole pairs between the two semiconductors. The present study provides a new strategy to design composite materials with enhanced photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:BiOCl/BiOI composites with a visible light response were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. Even though both single BiOCl and BiOI show low photocatalytic activity, BiOCl/BiOI composites provide enhanced efficiency in decomposing organic compounds including Methyl Orange (MO) and Rhodamine B (RhB). Furthermore, the 20%BiOCl/BiOI composite shows the highest efficiency for decomposing MO, while the highest performance is observed for the degradation of RhB over 70%BiOCl/BiOI composite. A possible photocatalytic mechanism has been proposed based on the relative experiments and the band positions of BiOCl and BiOI.

Abstract:The morphology of bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) was regulated by co-precipitation method by changing the solvent dosage and pH value.X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, surface area and pore structure analyzer, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectrum (UV-Vis DRS) were used to characterize the phase structure, morphology, specific surface area and pore structure, microstructure, optical properties and band structure of the samples.In addition, the effects of morphology and amount of photocatalyst on the photocatalytic performance of BiOI were evaluated by degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB).The experimental results demonstrated that the morphology of BiOI nanopowders (flower-like, microspherical and layered) can be adjusted by changing the solvent dosage and pH value.The flower-like BiOI prepared by this method maintains a single-phase tetragonal structure with a small crystallite size and good crystallization.Flower-like structure BiOI exhibits excellent visible light absorption ability and the narrowest bandgap.Microspherical BiOI displays the best photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation.In addition, • OH, • O 2 -and h + all played a certain role in the photocatalytic degradation process.And the possible photocatalytic activity mechanism was also proposed.

Abstract:A highly efficient and stable ZnO–BiOBr composite photocatalyst was prepared by a facile one-pot solvothermal method. A variety of sophisticated techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra, photoluminescence spectra and photoelectrochemical measurement, and so on were employed to characterize the materials. The as-prepared ZnO–BiOBr nanocrystalline showed strong photocatalytic activity for decomposition of methylene blue (MB), Orange II and biphenol A (BPA) under simulated visible light illumination. The possible working principle for the superior photocatalytic properties and reusability of the ZnO–BiOBr hybrid was surveyed to disclose contributions of various effects for the photoactivity enhancement. It was pointed out that *OH and holes take priority over ∙O2− radicals in serving as the main oxidant in the reaction system. The experimental results indicated that the ZnO–BiOBr composite is highly photostable and valuable for real environmental applications.

Abstract:A facile strategy was proposed to fabricate the S-doped flower-like BiOI microspheres (S-BiOI) for boosting the photocatalytic performance of BiOI via engineering the surface oxygen vacancy and exposed {001} crystal planes. The S-doping generated oxygen vacancies in BiOI lattice structure to create point defects and exposed {001} crystal planes, resulting in a decrease in bandgap and an enhancement in charges separation, which could significantly hasten the photocatalytic reaction. The concentration of CH4N2S was a key factor to promote the Cr(VI) reduction activities. The optimized S-BiOI1.25 presented a superior Cr(VI) removal efficiency of 100% for 60 min, which Cr(VI) reduction rate was 11.3 times higher than the pristine BiOI and still remained 97.5% Cr(VI) removal after 5 cycles. DFT calculation confirmed that the bandgap of the S-BiOI was narrowed compared to that of BiOI, but the S-BiOI still remained the intrinsic band structure of the pristine BiOI.

Abstract:In this study, MOF/BiFeO₃ composite (MOF, metal-organic framework) has been synthesized successfully through a one-pot hydrothermal method. The MOF/BiFeO₃ composite samples, pure MOF samples and BiFeO₃ samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and by UV-vis spectrophotometry. The results and analysis reveal that MOF/BiFeO₃ composite has better photocatalytic behavior for methylene blue (MB) compared to pure MOF and pure BiFeO₃. The enhancement of photocatalytic performance should be due to the introduction of MOF change the surface morphology of BiFeO3, which will increase the contact area with MB. This composing strategy of MOF/BiFeO₃ composite may bring new insight into the designing of highly efficient photocatalysts.

Abstract:The Ag/BiOI/C composite photocatalyst was synthesized by high-temperature tube furnace calcination method. The Ag/BiOI/C (0.5:2:3) sample showed the greater competence for the photocatalytic remove of the typical methylene blue dye compared with the pristine BiOI and BiOI/C under visible light exposure. The characterization was confirmed the Ag and C could synergistically enhance the photocatalytic performance. Among, the Ag and C worked as electron acceptors enhanced separation effectiveness of photo-induced electron-hole pairs and suppressed their recombination. Further, trapping experiments displayed that the ·O2− and h+ were the major function in the photo-degradation of methylene blue. A possible mechanism was proposed for the novel photocatalyst. The SPR effect and biochar were used to synergistically enhance the photocatalytic activity of BiOCl flower.

Abstract:Aurivillius oxide layered materials are formed by bismuth oxide and pseu-do-perovskite layers, which usually presents a mica-like lamellar structure, that is easy to stack with each other, affecting the exposure of active sites, thereby reducing its photocatalytic performance. Herein, the organic modifier is used to adjust the morphology to obtain Bi24Si2O40-Bi2O2SiO3 (BSO) with three-dimensional flower-like structure. Furthermore, the optimization of morphology promotes the effective formation of heterostructures, organic-mediated morphology growth and the regulation of heterojunction effectively improves the activity of superoxide radicals (•O2 −) and holes (h+). Therefore, the organic-modified MBSO-2 shows excellent photocatalytic performance, and its degradation rates of rhodamine B (RhB), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and norfloxacin (NOR) can reach 98.7%, 87.4% and 89.0%, respectively. Moreover, the great improvement of the degradation of RhB and NOR by MBSO-2 can be attributed to the important role played by its active species (h+ and •O2 −), which shows that it is more conducive to improving the degradation of pollutants with h+ and •O2 − as the degradation path. The modification strategy of organic-mediated lamellar growth provides a new idea for the morphology control of layered metal oxide photocatalysts and broadens its application.

Abstract:Three-dimensional BiOI/Bi 2 WO 6 Z-scheme photocatalysts were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method. Detailed characterization via SEM and TEM revealed that these photocatalysts exhibit a unique three-dimensional flower-like structure, composed of two-dimensional sheets. The results of photocatalysis mechanism analysis demonstrated that the BiOI/Bi 2 WO 6 heterojunctions have formed a Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism. Specifically, electrons transfer from the Bi 2 WO 6 conduction band to the BiOI valence band, facilitating both enhanced separation of photogenerated charges and the preservation of the strong reducibility of BiOI conduction band electrons and the strong oxidation of Bi 2 WO 6 valence band holes. This dual effect leads to increased generation of free radicals and a consequent improvement in photocatalytic property. Remarkably, when the molar ratio of BiOI/Bi 2 WO 6 is set at 40%, the first-order reaction rate constant reaches 0.089 min −1 , which is nearly 5.9 times that of pure Bi 2 WO 6 .

Abstract:The BiOI/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) composite photocatalyst with excellent photocatalytic performance was prepared by the solvothermal method. For the BiOI/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) (BNMT) system, the contents of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) in BNMT-4, BNMT-5, BNMT-7, BNMT-9, and BNMT-10 were 4 wt %, 5 wt %, 7 wt %, 9 wt %, and 10 wt %, respectively. XRD, XPS, SEM, and TEM characterizations indicated that BiOI/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) was successfully prepared. Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller (BET) and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra photoelectrochemical analysis indicated that BNMT-9 can make the specific surface area and photo absorption region larger than BiOI. In addition, the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers was improved, and the recombination efficiency was reduced. The degradation percentages of Rhodamine B (RhB) and p-chlorophenol (P-CP) reached 99% and 90% over BNMT-9 under visible light irradiation. Additionally, the catalysts had high stability. The results of the active spices trapping experiments test indicated that h+ was the main active species. The possible degradation mechanism was proposed.
