Abstract:A simple hot‐injection method of synthesis employing ethylenediammonium dihalide as an additional ligand/halide source yields phase‐pure, monodispersed, stable, and highly luminescent CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I, Cl/Br, and Br/I) perovskite NCs due to strong binding of the bidentate ligand (EDA2+) to the surface of the NCs and effective removal of the halide‐deficient trap states. Colloidal cesium lead halide (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) hold promises in photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications. However, their poor long‐term stability results in degradation of optical properties under ambient conditions. Various methods have been explored to address these issues. In this study, we demonstrate that following 3‐precursor hot‐injection method employing ethylenediammonium dihalide (EDAX2) as an additional ligand/halide source one can obtain phase‐pure, monodispersed, stable, and highly luminescent CsPbX3 NCs. Our violet‐emitting CsPbCl3, blue‐emitting CsPbClBr2, Green‐emitting CsPbBr3, yellow‐emitting CsPbBr2I, and red‐emitting CsPbI3 NCs show PLQYs of 53%, 97%, 96%, 93%, and 95%, respectively. Moreover, the CsPbI3 NCs, which are known for their phase instability, exhibit stability for up to two months under ambient conditions. The enhanced stability and photoluminescence are attributed to strong binding of the bidentate ligand (EDA2+) to the surface of the NCs and effective removal of the halide‐deficiency trap states by X−.

Abstract:Cubic phase CsPbX3 nanocrystals (NCs) are promising candidates for optoelectronic applications. However, their chemical stability heavily depends on the dynamic ionic surface. In this work, based on the interdependency of the ligands and the reaction solvent, a protocol is developed for high-quality alpha-CsPbX3 under ambient conditions. Utilizing this method, the size and full width at half maximum of CsPbX3 NCs can be simply tuned via changing the cationic ligands or reaction solvent, such as CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, or toluene. One remarkable result is the synthesis of cubic CsPbI3 NCs, for which large-scale syntheses have not been reported in the literature except for our method, due to significant phase transition at room temperature. Another result is that we have realized ultrasmall sized CsPbCl3 NCs with emission at 385 nm for the first time. Furthermore, the elimination of reaction solvent (such as ODE, DMSO, DMF) in our protocol reduces the purification-induced surface ligand loss and the irreversible phase transition to a nonfluorescent phase. Our CsPbX3 NCs show near-perfect photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) and long-term stability in the presence of moisture. Further characterization demonstrates that all the ligands, whether the initial paired X type or the degenerated hybrid L-X type, remain perfectly passivating on the defect sites throughout.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals have high quantum efficiency, adjustable optical band gap and high carrier migration efficiency which has a good application prospect in LED, HD flexible display, solar cells and photoelectric detection. However, due to its own structural composition and weak binding force of ligands on the surface of nanocrystals, the structure of the material is very easy to be destroyed when exposed to polar solvents. At the same time, in the process of separation and purification, a large number of ligands on the surface are easy to be lost, which reduces the stability and quantum efficiency of halide perovskite nanocrystals to different degrees. These problems seriously hinder the development of the material in practical application. In this paper, the effects of organic and inorganic materials coating, Lewis acid and Lewis base passivation on the stability and optical properties of CsPbX3(X = Br, Cl, I) perovskite nanocrystals were summarized and analyzed in detail. Finally, the improvement of the stability of CsPbX3(X = Br, Cl, I) perovskite nanocrystalline was prospected.

Abstract:This study reports a simple one‐pot fabrication method to prepare CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) by combining a water bath heating method with surface engineering strategy. CsPbBr3 NCs with high stability and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are finally synthesized through the common passivation of perovskite nanocrystals by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and oleylamine (OLA). Although CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) show excellent optoelectronic properties, their stability greatly limits their potential applications due to the ionicity. Stable bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) are achieved by the thermal injection method, which includes adding cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to a cesium oleate precursor solution. The CTAB as a ligand provides strong binding to the NC surface to effectively passivate the surface defects, and most importantly helps to realize the formation of bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs. The obtained bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and enhanced moisture and UV illumination stability. These results provide a simple strategy to synthesize bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs, which can be promising for integrating into the synthesize technique of perovskite optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:The colloidal all-inorganic CsPbX3(X=I, Br, Cl) perovskite nanocrystals(NCs) with unique optical properties have attracted considerable attention in the field of semiconductor nanocrystals, but their application is hindered by stability issues caused by surface defects and environmental factors. Usually with inert layer encapsulation, the stability of CsPbX3 NCs can be significantly enhanced. However, due to the loss of highly dynamic oleic acid/oleylamine ligands, it is usually accompanied by a decrease in the photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY). Herein, we report a facile method for preparing CsPbBr3 NCs based green phosphors with high stability and bright emission. With modification of colloidal CsPbBr3 NCs by di-dodecyldimethylammonium bromide and sequent encapsulation in the as-synthesized mesoporous MOF-5, the green emitting phosphors with enhanced stability and a PLQY of 77% were obtained. The phosphors exhibit enhanced resistance against ambient oxygen, UV light, heat treatment and water. These excellent properties show the potential value of our prepared NCs as stable phosphors in light-emitting devices.

Abstract:Blue‐emitting CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 core/shell NCs with high brightness and excellent stability are obtained by controlling the dissolution‐recrystallization of CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets. The emission color of core‐shell NCs is adjusted into green, orange, and red by controlling temperature, solvent viscosity, OLA, and halogen. These core/shell NCs exhibit excellent stability and great application prospects in the field of display. CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 hexagonal NCs with a bright photoluminescence (PL) peak of 456 nm are created through the dissolution‐recrystallization of CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets. Small CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are encapsulated in hexagonal Cs4PbBr6 during recrystallization to form a core‐shell structure and keep high brightness and stability. The recrystallization kinetics is systematically investigated to explore the roles of methyl acetate, oleylamine, and n‐hexane. Result further indicates that core/shell NCs remained high PL under a variety of harsh conditions (e.g., light irradiation and heat treatment) because of Cs4PbX6 shell and the controlling of recrystallization. Their initial PL intensity is remained after 4 months of storage under ambient conditions and continuous exposure to UV lamp for 180 min. The bright PL is also maintained even treatment at 120 °C. To indicate the universality of this synthesis method, CsPbX3@Cs4PbX6 hexagonal NCs with different emission colors are fabricated by changing temperature, solvent viscosity, and precursors (e,g, oleylamine and halogens). These core‐shell samples reveal bright and stable green, orange, and red PL. Because of its high stability, the core/shell NCs are dispersed in flexible films to create diverse patterns. The films also exhibit high brightness and excellent stability. This strategy opens a novel avenue for the application of perovskite nanomaterials in the display field.

Stable and Bright CsPbX3 Nanocrystals in Metal-Organic Frameworks for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:The stability of metal halide perovskite (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, and I) nanocrystals (NCs) is crucial for their practical applications. In this paper, perovskite NCs were synthesized in situ in lead-based metal-organic frameworks (Pb-MOFs: [Pb2(1,3,5-HBTC)2(H2O)4]·H2O), and we obtained stable and bright luminescence composites with different colors. Namely, CsPbBr3@Pb-MOF composites were created by the in situ growth of CsPbBr3 crystals (NCs) on Pb-MOF, which had high ion resistance, bright photoluminescence (PL), and excellent stability. The composites still had bright luminescence after 11 months of storage. The PL intensity of green-emitting CsPbBr3@Pb-MOF composites was increased compared with as-prepared CsPbBr3 NCs. Bright and stable blue- and red-emitting CsPbX3@Pb-MOF composites were obtained by adjusting the amount of PbX2 (X = Cl, Br, and I) in the synthesis process. These CsPbX3 NCs were homogeneously distributed in Pb-MOF substrates. The growth of CsPbX3 NCs in Pb-MOFs prevented NC aggregation and decreased surface defects against nonradiative recombination during emitting. Thus, the PL lifetime and stability were improved. Furthermore, white light-emission diodes were prepared using three color CsPbX3@Pb-MOF composites with Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage color coordinates of (0.296, 0.316). This result provided an efficient way to overcome the limitation of chemical solution synthesis and improve the stability of CsPbX3 NCs.
Stability of self-encapsulated CsPbX 3 @PbX(OH)(X=Cl,Br) perovskite quantum dots in polar solvents

Abstract:Inorganic halide perovskite quantum dots has excellent optical and photoelectric properties, so it has great potential in photovoltaic, photoelectric devices, display lighting, medical detection and other fields. However, its commercial application is hampered by its instability. In this paper, the perovskite quantum dots encapsulated by PbX (OH)(X = Cl,Br) can obtain hexahedral CsPbBr 3 @PbBr(OH), cube CsPbCl 3 @PbCl(OH) and spindle CsPbCl 3 @PbBr(OH) between hexahedron and cube. The core-shell encapsulation and interchange combination are realized. Before and after encapsulation, the color coordinates of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl,Br) perovskite quantum dots basically did not change, no other crystal phases were found in the XRD lines, which indicatied that the PbX (OH) (X = Cl,Br) encapsulation layer did not change the crystal structure of perovskite quantum dots. PbX (OH) (X = Cl,Br) encapsulation layer plays the role of water-blocking layer and protective layer, which greatly improves the stability of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl,Br) perovskite quantum dots in polar solvents. After encapsulation, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and time-resolved photoluminescence decay performance of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl,Br) perovskite quantum dots are greatly improved. The surface passivation and trap density of perovskite nanocrystals can be reduced by PbX (OH) (X = Cl,Br) wrapping, which extends the fluorescence life of CsPbX 3 (X = Cl,Br) and improving the PL stability of perovskite structure. Room temperature (RT) crystallization method does not require inert gas protection, high temperature and high pressure conditions. It also has good repeatability, which provides a better alternative to hot injection. Meanwhile, the improvement of package stability provides a broader prospect for the application and promotion of lead halide perovskite.

Abstract:Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted unprecedented attention owing to their compelling properties for optoelectronic applications. Compared with the classical hot-injection method, the room-temperature (RT) synthetic strategy is more facile and tender, but it is hard to obtain stable CsPbI3 NCs and it usually uses polar solvents that sometimes reduce the stability and properties of NCs. Here, we reported a simple approach to synthesize highly efficient and stable CsPbI3 as well as other color-tunable CsPbX3 NCs with high quantum efficiency at room temperature via an anion exchange at the water-oil interface, in which the as-synthesized pristine CsPbBr3 NCs in toluene were treated in aqueous solutions of HX (X=Cl, Br, and I) and protonated oleylamine (OAm) acted as a carrier. The synthesized CsPbI3 NCs had an emission at 680 nm and even showed excellent colloidal stability after being stored for 32 d. The high efficiency and stability of the obtained CsPbX3 NCs were ascribed to the facts that: (i) the polar reagents were almost removed from the surface of NCs; (ii) the defect-related nonradiative recombination was suppressed efficiently by surface passivation.

Abstract:Inorganic lead halide perovskite (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are promising materials for a variety of photonic or optoelectronic applications. Yet their intrinsic instability issue remains a critical challenge to overcome. Encapsulation of ionic LHP NCs in inert matrices such as polysiloxanes has been proved as an effective stabilization strategy, but the ex-situ synthesis of LHP NCs remains a limiting factor. Herein, an in-situ stabilization strategy that involves synergistic crystallization of LHP NCs and crosslinking of addition-type silicone oil precursors is reported. This simple, yet general stabilization strategy can effectively passivate the trap defects and increase the radiative recombination of CsPbX3 NCs, which leads to a significant enhancement of the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 68% for the solution to 82% for the composite powder. A series of CsPbX3-silicone resin composites with tunable emission wavelength ranging from 445 to 613 nm can be simply obtained by using suitable halide salts. Because of the protection of the silicone resin, the CsPbBr3-silicone resin composites exhibit high stability against moisture or heat in the ambient environment and could still keep their photoluminescence (PL) emission after being kept in air for one year or immersed in water for two months. Such composites have been used as functional downconverters in white LEDs that demonstrated a 92.7% color gamut coverage of Rec.2020. This work provides an alternative approach to solve the challenging stability issue of perovskite NCs.

Surface-stabilized CsPbI3 Nanocrystals with Tailored Organic Polymer Ligand Binding.

Abstract:Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit attractive photophysical properties by combining the excellent optoelectronic properties of bulk perovskites with the strong quantum confinement effect at the nanoscale. However, CsPbI3 NCs easily transform into a non-perovskite phase because of the ionic lattice and dynamic ligand binding. Herein, stable black-phase CsPbI3 NCs capped with a new organic ligand, HO-PS-N-3 (HOPS), which consists of a polystyrene segment with hydroxyl and azide end groups, are reported. This organic polymer ligand passivated the surface defects and enhanced the stability of CsPbI3 NCs by exposing the linking hydrophobic polystyrene segment. Consequently, the optimized CsPbI3 NCs exhibit significantly improved resistance to moisture or light and maintained 70 % of the original luminous intensity after immersion in water for two months. The theoretical results revealed that the binding energy of the HOPS ligand on the surface of the CsPbI3 NCs is higher than that of the commonly used oleic acid, alleviating the defects-induced degradation during purification. Thus, surface-stabilized CsPbI3 NCs are beneficial for a broad range of optoelectronic applications.
Stable and wide-wavelength tunable luminescence of CsPbX3 nanocrystals encapsulated in metal-organic frameworks

Abstract:Lead-halide perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) possess attractive linear and nonlinear optical properties. However, further adjusting their linear and nonlinear optical properties in a facile way remains a great challenge due to the inevitable instabilities. Herein, an effective host-guest system was successfully constructed by encapsulating PeNCs (CsPbX3 NCs) into a metal-organic framework (MOF), ZJU-28, via a sequential deposition method at ambient conditions. The accessible and charged frameworks of ZJU-28 facilitate the confinement growth of CsPbX3 NCs in the channels under a mild environment, and therefore facile halide-composition adjustment can be achieved by simply tuning the halide stoichiometry of CsX in a solution process, enabling wide-wavelength tunable one- and two-photon excited (1PE and 2PE) luminescence from 450 nm to 660 nm. Moreover, besides the confinement effect, effective separation, passivation and protection of CsPbX3 NCs are still achieved in ZJU-28 superset of CsPbX3 crystals, resulting in a giant two-photon action cross-section which is comparable to that of colloidal CsPbX3 NCs densely capped by surface ligands, and significantly enhanced 1PE and 2PE photostability especially for the spectral stability of mixed-halide composites. These results will pave the way for the exploitation of highly stable and emission-tunable PeNCs composites in optoelectronic applications and even future integrated photonics.
Ceramic-like stable CsPbBr3 nanocrystals encapsulated in silica derived from molecular sieve templates

Abstract:Abstract Achieving good stability while maintaining excellent properties is one of the main challenges for enhancing the competitiveness of luminescent perovskite CsPbX 3 (X=Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs). Here, we propose a facile strategy to synthesize ceramic-like stable and highly luminescent CsPbBr 3 NCs by encapsulating them into silica derived from molecular sieve templates at high temperature (600–900 o C). The obtained CsPbBr 3 -SiO 2 powders not only show high photoluminescence quantum yield (~71%), but also show an exceptional stability comparable to the ceramic Sr 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ green phosphor. They can maintain 100% of their photoluminescence value under illumination on blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chips (20 mA, 2.7 V) for 1000 h, and can also survive in a harsh hydrochloric acid aqueous solution (1 M) for 50 days. We believe that the above robust stabilities will significantly enhance the potential of perovskite CsPbX 3 NCs to be practically applied in LEDs and backlight displays.

Abstract:Colloidal cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbX 3 PNCs) are prone to instability due to low lattice energy and dynamic ionic bonding between the PNC core and the inorganic–organic interface. To address this issue, we propose a stapled ligand, perfluoroglutaric acid (PFGA), that can effectively passivate the surface of CsPbBr 3 PNCs through atomic-scale double chelating coordination with Pb 2+ between neighboring [PbBr 6 ] 4 − unit cells. Theoretical calculations show that this precise double chelating on the surface of CsPbBr 3 PNCs can achieve a much stronger bonding energy (−5.19 eV) compared to single-chelated perfluoroadipic acid (−1.42 eV) or other similar ligands with trivial changes in chain length. The PFGA enables CsPbBr 3 PNCs to achieve a high photoluminescence quantum yield of over 85% with a single acid as a capping agent, as well as outstanding dispersion in a variety of polar solvents. Furthermore, the PFGA-capped CsPbBr 3 PNCs exhibit excellent purification stability after five rounds of vigorous washing and long-term stability after more than six months of storage within ethanol, which has been successfully applied for chloride sensing in different circumstances. Our findings provide insight into the design of surface engineering strategies to produce highly emissive and stable PNCs and broaden the sensing field of PNCs in polar media.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have recently emerged as a new class of materials due to their tunable bandgaps and high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs). The origin of the enhancement of PLQY of CsPbBr3 NCs is usually attributed to the efficient passivation of the surface halide vacancies creating nonradiative recombination sites. In this work, Br-rich CsPbBr3 NCs with a PLQY of 97% were prepared using an extreme excess of Br source with Br/Pb of 4.5/1 from the ligand itself at room temperature. Br-rich CsPbBr3 NC based light-emitting devices were fabricated under ambient conditions, exhibiting the maximum current efficiency of 1 cd A(-1) at the luminance of 750 cd m(-2). First principles calculations indicate that Br interstitials can form the strong localized states. Such localized effect can prevent photogenerated carriers from defusing to non-radiative recombination centers, thus being responsible for the high emission efficiency.

Abstract:Oleylamine/oleic acid (OAm/OA) as the commonly used ligand is indispensable in the synthesis of perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs). Unfortunately, poor colloidal stability and unsatisfactory photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are observed, resulting from a highly dynamic binding nature between ligands. Herein, we adopt a facile hybrid ligand (DDAB/ZnBr2) passivation strategy to reconstruct the surface chemistry of CsPbBr3 NCs. The hybrid ligand can detach the native surface ligand, in which the acid-base reactions between ligands are suppressed effectively. Also, they can substitute the loose capping ligand, anchor to the surface firmly, and supply sufficient halogens to passivate the surface trap, realizing an exceptional PLQY of 95% and an enhanced tolerance toward ambient storage, UV irradiation, anti-solvents, and thermal treatment. Besides, the as-fabricated white light-emitting diode (WLED) utilizing the PNCs as the green-emitting phosphor has a luminous efficiency around 73 lm/W; the color gamut covers 125% of the NTSC standard.

Abstract:Colloidal lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are promising semiconductor materials for optoelectronic devices, but the high ionicity of LHP NCs makes their crystallization control and post-treatment difficult. Here, phosphonic acids (PAs) are employed as ligands to design a solid-liquid heterogeneous reaction system to regulate the LHP NC crystallization and achieve the desired focusing growth. During the heterogeneous synthesis, the precursors in the liquid phase are responsible for the burst nucleation and initial growth of NCs. Afterwards, the focusing growth of NCs is supported by the precursors released from the solid phase. In addition, the strong binding ability of PAs enables effective passivation of LHP NCs. Without post-treatment, gram-scale monodisperse CsPbBr3 NCs having photoluminescence with a full width at half-maximum of 18 nm and a quantum yield of near-unity are obtained. The CsPbBr3 NCs covered by a compact ligand layer keep initial quantum yield even after 18 cycles of purification, exhibiting excellent stability against polar solvents, ultraviolet irradiation and heat treatment. As scintillators, the prepared CsPbBr3 NCs show strong radioluminescence emission and high-resolution X-ray imaging.

Abstract:Cesium-lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbX3 (X = Br, Cl, I) PNCs) have become ideal luminescentmaterials for wide color gamut display devices, white LED lighting and high-efficiency solar cells, due toadjustable energy band gap, high fluorescence quantum yield, narrow fluorescence emission peak, and ultra-highdefect tolerance. The preparation of CsPbX3 PNCs with controllable size and morphology is a prerequisite forobtaining efficient and stable photovoltaic/photovoltaic devices. In this report, the CsPbBr3 PNCs withdifferent shapes are prepared by adding different concentrations of dodecanedioic acid (DDDA) ligands at roomtemperature through using ligand-assisted reprecipitation method. Utilizing the X-ray diffractometer,transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet spectrophotometer, fluorescence spectrometers (PL), the phasestructure, microstructure and optical properties of the nanocrystals are investigated. The results show that thepresence of DDDA ligands have no influence on the phase structure of nanocrystal products, they all present acubic phase structure. Surprisingly, the morphology of the nanocrystals gradually transforms from nanocubesinto nanoplatelets with ???5 layers in thickness as the concentration of DDDA increases. In addition, the PLspectrum shows a significant blue shift from 509 nm to 478 nm. By using the in-situ homemade PL device withultra-high time resolution (???100 ms), the real-time monitoring PL spectra of nanocrystals in the formationprocess are measured. The results demonstrate that nanocrystals undergo rapid nucleation and focusing of sizedistribution growth to generate nanocubes in the absence of DDDA ligand. When the DDDA ligand is present,nanocrystals are mainly nanoplatelets in the early growth stage due to the decelerated reaction. As the reactionproceeds, nanocubes can emerge and grow gradually while the nanoplatelets disappear when the concentrationsof DDDA ligands are 25% and 50%. As the concentration is further increased to 75%, almost nanoplateletscould be formed after the nucleation stage and growth stage. Unexpectedly, preformed nanoplatelets areunstable for the prolonged reaction time as a result of the high surface energy, and they will eventuallytransform into isotropic nanocubes through dissolution-recrystallization pathway, indicating that the process inthe later stage is controlled mainly by thermodynamics. Our findings offer an efficient strategy to synthesize theperovskite nanocrystals with controllable size and morphology.
