Abstract:This study aims to investigate the roles of interpersonal conflict and support in work- family balance satisfaction and work-family balance accomplishment on a daily basis. Drawing on the Job-Demands and Resources Model and Conservation of Resources theory, we proposed that task conflict and relationship conflict impede employees’ work-family balance in terms of satisfaction and accomplishment, while instrumental support and emotional support enhance the two dimensions of work-family balance. We also expected differentiated effects of interpersonal conflict and support on employees’ work-family balance satisfaction and accomplishment. In addition, we suggested moderating roles of instrumental and emotional support in the relationships between task and relationship conflict and work-family balance satisfaction and accomplishment. We initiated a diary study to test the conceptual model by sampling fifty full-time workers over a work week. The results of hierarchical linear modeling partially supported the hypothesized relationships. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
