Abstract:The novel NiO/HTi2NbO7 nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by assembling HTi2NbO7 nanosheets with a nickel hydroxide precursor. The as-prepared NiO/HTi2NbO7 nanocomposite and its precursors were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), N-2 adsorption-desorption measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS), H-1 magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 MAS NMR) spectra, current-time (i-t) curves and Mott-Schottky (M-S) curves. The catalytic activities of the as-prepared materials were evaluated by the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) dyes. The results showed that NiO nanoparticles were distributed on the surface of HTi2NbO7 nanosheets successfully. The significant interaction between the dispersed NiO species and the hydroxyl groups on the nanosheets was observed via the H-1-MAS NMR study of the nanocomposite, which was rarely explored before. The nanocomposite displayed an enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity compared to that of the NiO nanoparticles and HTi2NbO7 nanosheet aggregation, which could result from the improved visible-light region absorption intensity and the decreased electron-hole recombination rate. It is suggested that this improvement comes from the synergistic effect between the host HTi2NbO7 and guest NiO in the nanocomposite.
The Structure Feature of Novel Cu2O/e-HTi2NbO7 Nanocomposite and Their Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract:The novel Cu2O/[Formula: see text]-HTi2NbO7 heterojunction nanocomposite was assembled through a facile exfoliation-restacking route. The as-prepared nanocomposite and its precursors, Cu2O and [Formula: see text]-HTi2NbO7, were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), N2 adsorption–desorption measurements, laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS) and UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS). The photocatalytic performance was evaluated by photocatalytic oxidation of ethyl mercaptan (EM) and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dyes under sunlight irradiation. The results showed that Cu2O nanoparticles were successfully distributed on the surface of [Formula: see text]-HTi2NbO7 nanosheets, and the intensity of spectral absorption of the as-prepared nanocomposite in the visible-light region was significantly enhanced. The as-prepared nanocomposite displayed the enhanced photocatalytic activity than the Cu2O nanoparticles and HTi2NbO7 nanosheets due to the formation of a heterojunction structure between Cu2O nanoparticles and HTi2NbO7 nanosheet and a possible photocatalytic mechanism was suggested.
Characterization and photocatalytic activity of Ni-doped tiO2 nano photocatalysts prepared by low temperature combustion synthesis]

Abstract:Ni-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by low temperature combustion synthesis and some properties, such as optical absorption, crystal type, grain size distribution and chemistry transformation during temperature rising were characterized by UV-Vis DRS, X-ray diffraction (XRD), laser light dispersion grain size measurement machine and TG-DSC respectively. The photocatalytic activities of the prepared photocatalysts under visible light irradiation were evaluated by monitoring the degradation of methylene blue dye, a probe pollutant. The results indicate that the Ni-doped TiO2 photocatalysts prepared by low temperature combustion synthesis shift the optical absorption threshold to visible light, the band gap of 0.4 Ni-TiO2 (atomic ratio) is 2.3 eV, which corresponds to a 564 nm threshold in the visible light range. The crystal type of photocatalyst is anatase TiO2 and the content of NiTiO3 rise with the increase of Ni dopant. The grain size of photocatalyst distributes from 50 to 150nm, which account for 96.9% of entire quantity. During temperature rising, the TiO2 phase in photocatalyst transforms from amorphous structure to anatase and NiTiO3 crystallites appear at 445.2 degrees C. After 150 min visible light irradiation, 93.9% of methylene blue dye are degraded over 0.4 Ni-TiO2 photocatalyst. The photocatalytic activity of Ni doped TiO2 is higher than that of P25 under identical conditions.
Novel mesoporous NiO/HTiNbO 5 nanohybrids with high visible-light photocatalytic activity and good biocompatibility

Abstract:Mesoporous nanohybrids of NiO nanoparticles and HTiNbO5 nanosheets have been successfully synthesized by first exfoliating layered HTiNbO5 in tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) to obtain HTiNbO5 nanosheets, then reassembling with a nickel precursor and finally heating with urea. The resulting samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) and N-2 adsorption-desorption measurements. It was found that the as-prepared nanohybrids had a relatively large interlayer spacing of 1.05 nm. After calcination, the titanoniobate nanosheet was still retained and the pore size of the resulting nanohybrids became larger. Compared with the original HTiNbO5, the obtained nanohybrids were mesoporous with a greatly expanded surface area (similar to 75-115 m(2) g(-1)), a much strengthened absorption in the UV light region and a visible-light response. Nickel atoms were present in the form of Ni-O in the nanohybrid, and NiO nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed with an average particle size of 2-3 nm, giving rise to the visible light response. The catalytic activities of the obtained samples were evaluated by the photodegradation of RhB solution under visible light irradiation. The introduction of urea during the calcination process not only increased the thermal stability and surface area, but also decreased the rate of recombination of photogenerated holes and electrons, leading to a greatly enhanced photocatalytic activity of the resulting nanohybrids. The dye molecules were mainly degraded to aliphatic organic compounds and partially mineralized to CO2 and/or CO, rather than being simply decolorized. In addition, cell viability results for HepG2 cells show that the as-prepared sample have good biocompatibility.

Abstract:TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite was fabricated by a hydrolysis-precipitation approach, with TiCl 4 as precursor and Fe 2 O 3 as support. The crystal phase, diameter and morphology of the sample particle were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope. The results show that the samples are composed of haematite and rutile. The morphology and diameter of rutile particle, coating effect and weight percentages of haematite and rutile are related to the preparing temperature and molar ratio of Fe/Ti. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalyst was estimated in an aqueous solution at ambient temperature of 303K. The results imply that the photocatalytic activity of the sample is higher than that of phase pure rutile, related to Fe/Ti molar ratio and its preparing temperature. These results can be attribute to the microsturcture of the sample. A synergistic effect exists between titania and haematite in the nanocomposite.
Facile Synthesis of Ni-doped TiO2ultrathin Nanobelt Arrays with Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Because of the high specific surface area and enhanced charge migration, TiO2 with unique belt-like nanostructures finds promising applications in various fields such as photocatalysis, dye-sensitized solar cells, gas sensors, and Li-ion batteries. In the current study, a solution combustion procedure was firstly adopted to prepare a black water-proof precursor. The black precursor interacted with H2O2 at ambient temperature, achieving a precursor solution that is capable of fabricating hydrogen titanate (H2Ti2O5·H2O) nanobelt arrays on metallic Ti substrates at 60 °C. Subsequent calcination in air at 400 °C achieved arrays of ultrathin anatase TiO2 nanobelts of ca. 2–4 nm in thickness. The addition of nickel nitrate in the combustion solution achieved the Ni-doping into the resultant TiO2 nanobelts, which did not alter the nanobelt structure but significantly reduced the band gap from 3.2 eV to 2.9 eV. When compared with the commonly alkali-hydrothermal synthesized anatase TiO2 nanobelts, the present ultrathin nanobelts exhibited much improved photocatalytic activity when utilized to assist photodegradation of rhodamine B in water. The ultrathin nanobelt structure is believed to contribute to the high specific surface area, the much reduced charge migration path, and the enhanced charge transport along the longitudinal direction. The appropriate Ni-doping further enhanced the photocatalytic performance, because of the increased light harvesting efficiency and reduced charge recombination.

Abstract:Photocatalysis is regarded as a promising technology for removal of nitrogen oxide (NO), however, the low photocatalytic efficiencies under visible light irradiation and the deactivation of the photocatalyst are as yet the significant issues that should be addressed. In this work, visible-light-driven Bi2Ti2O7/CaTiO3 heterojunction composites were synthesized by a facile in-situ hydrothermal method. The Bi2Ti2O7/CaTiO3 composites displayed superior visible light photocatalytic activity than pure CaTiO3 and pure Bi2Ti2O7 in the removal of NO at the 600 ppb level in air. Among all the composites, Bi2Ti2O7/CaTiO3 containing 20 wt% Bi2Ti2O7 exhibited the best photocatalytic activity, achieving a maximum removal efficiency of 59%. The improved photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed to the strong visible-light-absorbing ability, the presence of an appropriate density of oxygen vacancy defects and the formation of heterojunction between CaTiO3 and Bi2Ti2O7, resulting in an efficient charge separation at the interface as proven by photoluminescence (PL) and photo-induced current measurements. According to trapping experiments and spin-trapping ESR analysis, the •O2- and h+ are the principal reactive species involved in the photocatalytic NO removal. In addition, the as-obtained Bi2Ti2O7/CaTiO3 composite showed good chemical stability, which is beneficial for practical applications in air pollution removal.

Abstract:Photoactive ZnS/TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared via microemulsion-mediated solvothermal method. The structure, composition, physicochemical property, and morphology of the composites were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering studies, UV diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV/DRS), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It showed that the composites were cube-shaped with particle sizes of 10 to 15 nm, and the phase structure for ZnS and TiO2 in the composites was cubic and anatase, respectively. The content of the ZnS in the composites was 2.1%, 10.7%, and 19.9%, respectively Compared with the solitary anatase TiO2, the ZnS/TiO2 exhibited enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity for the aqueous parathion-methyl degradation. Factors including the interactions between the phases of ZnS and TiO2, strong adsorption of the substrate at the surface of the ZnS/TiO2 nanocomposites, and preassociation of the substrate and composites are responsible for this enhancement photocatalytic activity. Abstract:Solar-driven photocatalytic hydrogen generation by splitting water molecules requires an efficient visible light active photocatalyst. In this work, Ni cocatalyst on TiO2 composite photocatalyst with different graphene oxide (GO) content were prepared by hydrothermal method and characterized by TEM, XRD, UV-vis, Raman and PL spectra. The results show that the synthesized TiO2/GO/Ni nanosheets composite have a large specific surface area and can provide a large number of active sites for photocatalytic hydrogen production reaction. GO can broaden the optical absorption range of TiO2 and absorb more visible light, thus stimulating more photogenerated electron-hole pairs. At the same time, GO can collect electrons and promote the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Ni as a cocatalyst, can be used as the active site for hydrogen ion adsorption, which is conducive to promoting the migration of photogenerated electrons in the system and prolonging the life of photogenerated electrons and holes, thus ensuring the high efficiency of the photocatalytic reaction.

Abstract:Ni2O3-modified TiO2-xNx visible-light photocatalysts have been prepared by the sol-gel method followed by calcining at 450 degrees C. The photocatalysts were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The visible-light photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by decomposition of methylene blue in air under visible-fight irradiation (lambda > 420 nm). Results revealed that the Ni2O3-modified TiO2-xNx samples exhibited irregular particle shapes. The crystal phase of NiO2O3-modified TiO2-xNx samples was anatase. Compared with pure TiO2, the absorption of the Ni2O3-modified TiO2-xNx samples extends significantly into the visible regions due to the doped N atom in the interstitial sites of the TiO2 lattice. The visible-light photocatalytic activity of Ni2O3-modified TiO2-xNx samples was improved greatly since the loaded Ni2O3 can facilitate charge transfer.

Abstract:This paper describes the chemical engineering aspects for the preparation of highly active and stable nanocomposite photocatalysts based on N-doped TiO2. The synthesis is performed using titanium oxysulfate as a low-cost inorganic precursor and ammonia as a precipitating agent, as well as a source of nitrogen. Mixing the reagents under a control of pH leads to an amorphous titanium oxide hydrate, which can be further successfully converted to nanocrystalline anatase TiO2 through calcination in air at an increased temperature. The as-prepared N-doped TiO2 provides the complete oxidation of volatile organic compounds both under UV and visible light, and the action spectrum of N-doped TiO2 correlates to its absorption spectrum. The key role of paramagnetic nitrogen species in the absorption of visible light and in the visible-light-activity of N-doped TiO2 is shown using the EPR technique. Surface modification of N-doped TiO2 with copper species prevents its intense deactivation under highly powerful radiation and results in a nanocomposite photocatalyst with enhanced activity and stability. The photocatalysts prepared under different conditions are discussed regarding the effects of their characteristics on photocatalytic activity under UV and visible light.

Abstract:A highly integrated photocatalyst system is constructed.Mesoporous black TiO2 phase nanosheets are prepared.The integrated photocatalyst shows good visible light utilization, rapid charge separation, and efficient photocatalytic H2 evolution.Ni nanosheets enables easy magnetic recovery and reuse of the powered photocatalysts.Solar fuels production by using TiO2 nanomaterials has attracted much attention to overcome the energy and environmental crisis. However, it is a big challenge to utilize the visible light, promote charge separation and surface reaction, and efficiently recover nanosized TiO2 photocatalysts without secondary contamination. Here, Ni nanosheets as the non-noble metal co-catalysts are coated on the surface of mesoporous black TiO2 phase junction microspheres (Ni/b–TiO2) for highly efficient H2 evolution. The black TiO2 phase junction core can efficiently harvest the visible light and greatly facilitate the charge transfer. The Ni nanosheet shell can not only serve as a highly efficient collaborative co-catalyst to promote the separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers, but also enhance the visible light absorption and improve the utilization ratio of sunlight. The obtained Ni/b–TiO2 exhibits a high hydrogen evolution rate of 166.2 µmol h-1 g-1 under simulated sunlight, which is much higher than that of pristine mesoporous black TiO2 microspheres (80.5 μmol h-1 g-1). More importantly, the obtained photocatalysts can be easily separated through magnetic separation. Such a structure design may provide new insights for fabricating low-cost bifunctional photocatalysts with high-performance.

Abstract:In this work, we have synthesized a nano-heterostructure of TiO2 nanoparticles decorating TiO2 nanowires (TiO2 NPs/NWs). Both the TiO2 NPs and NWs show an anatase crystal phase with {101} facet predominately exposed. It is found that the ratio of NPs to NWs affects the dispersion of TiO2 NPs and their combination with TiO2 NWs, as well as the separation of photo-generated charges and further the photocatalytic activity of the material. The heterostructure with a TiO2 NPs to NWs ratio of 1:1 (NP0.5/NW0.5) shows high activity and excellent cycling stability in both Rhodamine B degradation and water splitting. A possible charge transfer mechanism on the TiO2 NPs/NWs hybrid has been proposed to clarify the correlation between material structure and performance. This work not only demonstrates the advantage of 0D-1D nano-heterostructures, but also provides a facile approach of designing and fabricating excellent catalysts for energy and environmental applications.
Preparation and Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Performance of Coupled Bicomponent ZnO−TiO2 Nanocomposites

Abstract:Novel coupled bicomponent nanocomposites consisting of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles and wurtzite ZnO nanorods were prepared using a one-step hydrothermal method, and they were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and specific surface area. Compared with the mere TiO2 nanoparticles or ZnO nanorods, the coupling of TiO2 nanoparticles and ZnO nanorods produced a significant effect on its properties, such as surface morphologies, surface areas, electronic properties, and photoelectrochemical properties. The generated photocurrent of the coupled ZnO−TiO2 nanocomposite was largely enhanced with several orders of magnitude higher intensities than that of the mere TiO2 nanoparticles or ZnO nanorods. The photocatalytic activities of the coupled TiO2−ZnO nanocomposites, evaluated using the photodegradation of methyl blue as a probe reaction, were also significantly enhanced compared to those of the mere TiO2 nanoparticles or ZnO nanorods. The enhancement of the photocurrent actions and photocatalytic activities might arise from the increased surface area, which can enhance the light harvest and the ability of generating photoinduced electron−hole pairs of active sites, and the favorable electron-transfer properties of the heterojunctions TiO2/ZnO in the coupled ZnO−TiO2 nanocomposites. It is expected that the present work is of notable significance for understanding the unique properties that result from the coupled nanocomposites and designing new nanocomposites of advanced functions in photoelectrochemical applications.
The Nanocomposite Of Polyaniline And Nitrogen-Doped Layered Htinbo5 With Excellent Visible-Light Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:An effective approach has been used to synthesize N-doped HTiNbO5 (denoted as N-HTiNbO5) with a better intercalation property. The synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) with N-HTiNbO5 to form PANI-N-HTiNbO5 lamellar nanocomposites by in situ polymerization using the aniline (ANI) intercalation compound ANI/ N-HTiNbO5 as the intermediate has been investigated. The resulting PANI-N-HTiNbO5 nanocomposite showed a better crystallinity with a monolayer of PANI within the interlayers of N-HTiNbO5, because nitrogen doping can affect the surface charge distribution of [TiNbO5]-layers. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) results indicated that the PANI-N-HTiNbO5 nanocomposite had good redox activity and electrochemical-cycling stability in acidic solution. The visible-light response of the PANI-N-HTiNbO5 nanocomposite was enhanced through N-doping, acid exchange, and the intercalation of PANI. The PANI-N-HTiNbO5 nanocomposite showed the highest activity with 97.8% methylene blue (MB) photodegraded in 170 min under visible light irradiation. The significant enhancement of photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the high efficiency of charge separation, induced by the synergistic effect between PANI and N-HTiNbO5. In addition, the PANI-N-HTiNbO5 nanocomposite had a high thermal and photodegradation stability due to the intercalation reaction at the molecular level.
