For microseismic data processing and interpretation, it mainly includes four aspects: microseismic event detection, microseismic event location, microseismic event focal mechanism determination, and microseismic velocity and structure imaging. On microseismic event detection, we applied the Match & Locate method to detect weak microseismic events by waveform matching using detected template events and at the same time to locate them. In this way, many weak microseismic events can be detected that can provide a more complete and better characterization of fracture distribution. For microseismic event location, it is important to have an accurate velocity model to calculate travel times and ray paths. To achieve this goal, we developed a 1D velocity calibration method that uses the differential evolution method to optimize the 1D layer model to fit for station-pair arrival time differences for perforation shots. This method has the advantage of removing origin time uncertainties of perforation shots and using waveform cross-correlation to extract more accurate station-pair differential arrival times. For downhole microseismic monitoring system, we extended the double-difference location method to include both differential arrival times and differential back azimuths. In this way, even with the linear distribution of sensors in a borehole the extended double-difference seismic location method is still able to give accurate event locations. To reliably determine focal mechanisms for microseismic events with unclear first arrival polarities in many cases, we used full waveform matching to robustly determine event focal mechanisms even when only sparse stations are available. For microseismic structure and velocity imaging, the purpose is to take advantage of microseismic events as passive sources to image fractures and determine velocity variations in space and time caused by hydraulic fracturing. By combing with event locations and focal mechanisms, we can better characterize fracture distribution.
