Abstract:Eight pentacyclic triterpenoids were isolated from the methanol extract of the roots of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa. By application of spectroscopic methods (especially 1D-, 2D-NMR, MS), the structures were established as 23-cis-p-coumaroyloxy-2 alpha,3 beta-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (1), 23-trans-p-coumaroyloxy-2 alpha,3 beta-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (2), 3 beta-O-trans-ferulyl-2 alpha,23-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (3), 3 beta-O-trans-p-coumaroyl-2 alpha,23-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (4), 3 beta-O-cis-p-coumaroyl-2 alpha,23-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid (5), maslinic acid (6), arjunolic acid (7), and 2 alpha,3 beta-dihydroxytaraxer-20-en-28-oic acid (8). Among them, compounds 1 and 3 were new oleanane-type triterpenoids, while compounds 2, 4 similar to 6 and 8 were isolated from this plant for the first time. This is the first report on the chemical constituents from the roots of R. tomentosa.

Abstract:Two new stilbenoids, stemobenoids A (1) and B (2), together with three known compounds were obtained from the roots of Stemona tuberosa. The structures of the new compounds were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR data. Compounds 1 and 2 displayed potent quinone reductase inducing activity in Hepa 1c1c7 cells.

Abstract:Two new monoterpenoid glycosides, trans-1,8-cineole-3,6-dihydroxy-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), and 5,9-dihydroxy borneol 2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), together with four known monoterpenoid glycosides (3–6), were isolated from the water-soluble constituents of the fresh rhizome of Tongling White Ginger (Zingiber officinale). Their structures were decisively elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. In vitro tests for antimicrobial activity showed that compounds 1 and 3 possess significant activity against two Gram-positive organisms, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Abstract:Five undescribed triterpenoids, two unusual omphalane-type sesquiterpenoids together with twenty-five known compounds were isolated from the leaves and stems of Rhododendron minutiflorum Hu. The absolute configurations of 1-3 and 6 were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD). Compounds 6-7 feature the rare omphalane-type sesquiterpene skeleton and are verified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for the first time. In the biological activity assay, most of the triterpenoids have different degrees of inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase, with IC50 values ranging from 6.97 to 229.3 μM (the positive control drug acarbose has an IC50 value of 3.07 × 10-3 μM). Structure and activity relationship (SAR) study reveals that the oxidation degrees of C-3, C-8, or C-11 to C-13 of the ursane-type triterpenoid influence the inhibitory activity dramatically.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Curcuma longa. Methods: The structures of the compounds were elucidated based on extensive spectral analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR, MS, UV, and CD analysis. Results: Two new sesquiterpene compounds (1S,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (1), (1R,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (2), and a new natural product 6-(4-Hydroxymethylphenyl)-2-methyl-hept-2-ene-4-one (3) together with three known compounds ar-turmerone (4), 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl-3-methyl)-2-hepten-4-one (5) and 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-hepten-4-one (6) were isolated from C. longa root extract with 95% ethanol. Conclusion: In the study, three new compounds were isolated from C. longa, and their absolute configurations were determined.

Abstract:Two new rotenoids, named millettiaosas A–B (1–2), together with four known compounds were isolated from the roots of Millettia speciosa. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis including 1D and 2D NMR techniques and HRESIMS. Evaluation of the two new compounds for cytotoxicity against four human cancer cell lines (MCF-7, HCT-116, A549 and HepG-2) showed moderate activities (10μM<IC50<26μM).

Abstract:Two enantiomeric pairs of meroterpenoids, (-)- and (+)-rhodonoids A (1a and 1b) and B (2a and 2b), were isolated unprecedentedly from partially racemic mixtures that naturally occurred in Rhododendron capitatum. Their structures were fully determined by spectroscopic data, X-ray crystallography, and electronic circular dichroism analysis. Compounds 1a and 1b are the first examples of meromonoterpenes featuring a unique 6/6/6/4 ring system. Compounds 2a and 2b showed PTP1B inhibitory activity.

Abstract:Abstract Two new diterpenoids, dauricumins A (1) and B (2), together with two known aromatic meroterpenoids (3 and 4), were isolated from the petroleum ether soluble fraction of the stems from Rhododendron dauricum through an HPLC-MS-SPE-NMR combination strategy. The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were elucidated by ECD calculations and [Rh2 (OCOCF3)4]-induced CD spectrum analysis. In a membrane potential FLIPR assay, confluentin (4) showed an agonistic effect on GABAA receptor (EC50 = 20 µM).

Abstract:A new ursane-type triterpenoid, 20-taraxastene-22α-methoxy-3β-ol (1) together with nine known triterpenoids (2–10), was isolated from the leaves of Rhododendron dauricum L. Their structures were established from spectroscopic data (1D, 2D NMR, and HR-ESI-MS) and comparison with reported values. Among the isolates, compounds 1 and 8 were found in the family Ericaceae for the first time, and compounds 5, 6, and 10 from this species for the first time. All the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against three human cancer cells; compound 1 exhibited better cytotoxic activity against A549, HeLa, and SK-Hep1 cells than the other compounds with IC50 values of 34.04 ± 1.01, 64.04 ± 1.75, and 44.04 ± 0.05 μM, respectively.
