Abstract:An enantioselective one-pot Michael/Michael/Henry/hemiacetalization reaction between alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes, alpha-ketoamides, and nitroalkenes under mild conditions catalyzed by a diarylprolinol silyl ether has been developed. The sequential methodology provides a direct approach to a wide range of fully substituted chiral oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes with seven contiguous stereocenters in moderate to excellent yields (up to 99%), high to excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >25:1 dr), and high to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).

Abstract:1-{6-(2-Methylbenzoyl)- N -ethylcarbazole-3-yl}-ethane-1-one oxime O -acetate, an excellent two-photon carbazole photoinitiator, was synthesized with moderate yield (76.9%) starting from the successive o -methyl benzoylation and acetylation of N -ethylcarbazole, followed by oximation and esterification in the article. The structure was confirmed by 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, and IR. The by-product acetic acid in the neutralization of hydroxylamine hydrochloride is effectively utilized in esterification with the aid of the one-pot process. In particular, the phase transfer technique is applied to overcome the deficiency of low reaction rate caused by heterogeneous reaction conditions in esterification.

Abstract:Dual catalyst-controlled intramolecular unactivated C(sp(3))-H amination and oxygenation of carbamates merging visible-light photocatalysis and earth-abundant transition metal catalysis have been reported. Useful amino alcohol and diol derivatives could be selectively obtained from readily available tertiary alcohol derivatives. The possible mechanisms have been proposed via a 1,5-HAT process followed by Lewis acid-controlled cyclization. The nickel and zinc catalysts inhibit the formation of oxygenation and amination products, respectively. An interesting phenomenon of chirality transfer is also observed.

Abstract:In this work, carbazoles, one of the most important types of nitrogenous compounds, were used as substrates to synthesize dicarbazolyl(aryl)methanols in moderate to excellent yields (up to 95%). This simple and efficient strategy can regioselectively form an sp 3 quaternary carbon with two large sterically hindered carbazole rings, one benzene ring, and an active hydroxy group in a one-pot reaction. The resulting triarylmethanes are all new products, and have high potential as building blocks for medicinal chemistry or materials science. Abstract:The efficient capture and conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) has attracted considerable attention for synthesizing valuable chemicals. In this work, we reported an effective method for the synthesis of various carbamates from amines, alcohol, and CO2 in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU). Two pathways were proposed for this reaction process. One pathway was that the protic ionic liquids (ILs), [DBUH][RO], could activate CO2 to produce [DBUH][ROCO2] at mild conditions. The nucleophilic nitrogen atom of amines attacked the carbon atom of [ROCO2](-) to form the [NHCO2]. Another way of the reaction was that the mixture of DBU/amines directly transformed into ILs by exposing to CO2, which was followed by the reaction with electrophile of CH2Br2 to generate the isocyanate at 333.2 K. Moreover, DBU could be easily recovered and reused. This protocol provides a feasible methodology for the production of carbamates and extends the chemical utilization of CO2.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed, amine-directed C(sp2)-H carbonylation of α,α-disubstituted benzylamine under 1 atm of CO for the facile synthesis of sterically hindered benzolactam has been developed. The key to success is the use of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy as the crucial sole oxidant. The synthetic utility of this transformation has been demonstrated by the first concise synthesis of the natural product spiropachysin-20-one.

Abstract:In this study, an efficient method for the synthesis of benzoxazoles by coupling catechols, aldehydes and ammonium acetate using ZrCl 4 as catalyst in ethanol is reported. A wide range of benzoxazoles (59 examples) are smoothly produced in high yields (up to 97%). Other advantages of the method include large-scale synthesis and the use of oxygen as an oxidant. The mild reaction conditions allowed late-stage functionalization, facilitating access to several derivatives with biologically relevant structures such as β -lactam and quinoline heterocycles.

Abstract:Carbon dioxide (CO2 ), a well-known greenhouse gas, is also a nontoxic, readily accessible, and renewable one-carbon (C1) source. However, owing to its thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertness, the efficient utilization of CO2 is challenging. Much effort has been devoted to achieving efficient and selective organic transformations of CO2 . Recently, the synthesis of important oxazolidin-2-ones from unsaturated amines by using CO2 has attracted much attention and been heavily studied. This Focus Review presents recent advances in this area by using homogenous catalysis. The cyclization of amines that contain alkynes, alkenes, and allenes with CO2 is discussed, and possible reaction mechanisms and applications of these transformations are also described.

Abstract:Oxazoles are among the most important heterocyclic scaffolds in the fields of natural products and medicinal chemistry. Herein is developed a tandem reaction for the synthesis of a diverse array of 4,5-difunctionalized oxazoles utilizing easily-accessible ethyl 2-isocyanoacetate and aldehydes (26 examples, 31-83% yields). This cascade reaction is facilitated by catalytic CuBr and molecular oxygen as the oxidant. The process involves a catalytic cycloaddition oxidative dehydroaromatization mechanism. The broad aldehyde substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, and atom economy make this protocol an attractive alternative to access functionalized oxazoles.
