Abstract:Easy access: An unprecedented copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of the title compounds with diboron reagents is described (see scheme; Ts = 4-toluenesulfonyl). This reaction can be used to prepare both primary and secondary alkylboronic esters having diverse structures and functional groups. The resulting products would be difficult to access by other means.

Abstract:The Sonogashira cross coupling between the monocarborane cluster 12-ethynylmonocarba-closo-dodecaborate [CB11H11-12-CCH]- and bromoarenes under Pd catalysis has been developed, providing access to aryl carboranyl alkynes in yields of 42-95%. The transformations proceed under mild conditions and with high functional group tolerance using commercially available coupling partners. X-ray structural analyses and the identification of an unusual phosphonium zwitterion byproduct are reported as well.

Abstract:The reaction of alkenyl boronates and bromo-difluoroacetates in the presence of copper powder and TMEDA as the catalytic system was developed. The corresponding C–C coupling products were obtained in 35–93% yield. The method tolerated a variety of functional groups, namely, phenol, (thio)ether, protected amino-, hydroxy-, ketone, and carboxylic acid moieties, as well as various saturated carbo- and heterocycles, and was compatible with multigram scale up (to 76 g). The diastereoselectivity of the process was typically low, so that ca. 1:1 E/Z isomeric mixtures were formed from pure E or Z alkenyl boronates. Further functional group transformations demonstrated the utility of the prepared compounds as valuable building blocks for synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Based on the obtained results and the literature data, a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed involving the formation of radical and organocopper intermediates.

Abstract:Novel and general copper-catalyzed cyclopropanol ring opening cross-coupling reactions with difluoroalkyl bromides, perfluoroalkyl iodides, monofluoroalkyl bromides, and 2-bromo-2-alkylesters to synthesize various β-(fluoro)alkylated ketones are reported. The reactions feature mild conditions and excellent functional group compatibility and can be scaled up to gram scale. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest the involvement of radical intermediates. The difluoroalkyl-alkyl cross-coupling products can also be readily converted to more valuable and diverse gem-difluoro-containing compounds by taking advantage of the carbonyl group resulting from cyclopropanol ring opening.

Abstract:A highly efficient cross-coupling reaction of monofluoroalkenes with tertiary, secondary, and primary alkyl and aryl Grignard reagents in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper or nickel catalyst, respectively, has been developed. The reactions proceeded smoothly at room temperature, providing (E)-alkene isomers in moderate to high yields. Plausible mechanisms of the Ni-catalyzed coupling reaction of monofluoroalkene with Grignard reagents are suggested.

Abstract:Alkyl constitutes one of the most widely used groups in organic synthesis. Here, the development of a series of thianthrenium salts, which act as reliable alkylation reagents, are ready to engage in copper-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction to build C(sp 3 )-C(sp) bonds under mild photoinduced conditions. Diverse alkyl thianthrenium salts, methyl and disubstituted thianthrenium salts are employed with great functional breadth, since sensitive Cl, Br and I are compatible and challenging to achieve by conventional approaches. The generality of the developed alkyl reagents has also been demonstrated in copper-catalyzed Kumada reactions.
