In parallel, quantum dynamics calculations were performed based on an accurate global potential energy surfaces for the three lowest lying quartet states of the C2N molecule. The 1(4)A'' potential energy surface is barrierless, having two deep potential wells corresponding to the NCC and CNC intermediates. Both the experimental and theoretical work show that the rate constant decreases to low temperature, although the experimentally measured values fall more rapidly than the theoretical ones except at the lowest temperatures. Astrochemical simulations indicate that this reaction could be the dominant source of CN in dense interstellar clouds.

Abstract:Rate constants for the potentially important interstellar N(S-4) + CH(X-2 Pi(r)) reaction have been measured in a continuous supersonic flow reactor over the range 56 K <= T <= 296 K using the relative rate technique employing both the N(S-4) + OH(X-2 Pi(i)) and N(S-4) + CN(X-2 Sigma(+)) reactions as references. Excess concentrations of atomic nitrogen were produced by the microwave discharge method upstream of the Laval nozzle and CH and OH radicals were created by the in situ pulsed laser photolysis of suitable precursor molecules. In parallel, quantum dynamics calculations of the title reaction have been performed based on accurate global potential energy surfaces for the 1(3)A' and 1(3)A " states of HCN and HNC, brought about through a hierarchical construction scheme. Both adiabatic potential energy surfaces are barrierless, each one having two deep potential wells suggesting that this reaction is dominated by a complex-forming mechanism. The experimental and theoretical work are in excellent agreement, predicting a positive temperature dependence of the rate constant, in contrast to earlier experimental work at low temperature. The effects of the new low temperature rate constants on interstellar N-2 formation are tested using a dense cloud model, yielding N-2 abundances 10-20% lower than previously predicted.

Abstract:The reactions between N(S-4) and CH(X-2 Pi) lead to H(S-2) plus CN in its two lowest electronic states (X-2 Sigma(+) and A(2)Pi), which are responsible for the interstellar CN formation. Accurate quantum dynamics of these reactions are investigated on new global potential energy surfaces of the two lowest-lying triplet states of HCN (1(3)A' and 1(3)A '') fitted to more than 37 000 points at the internally contracted multi-reference configuration interaction level with the Davidson correction. The pathways for these highly exothermic and barrierless reactions feature both the HCN and HNC wells. Long-lived resonances supported by these wells manifest in reaction probabilities as numerous oscillations, particularly for low J partial waves. The 1(3)A '' state is found to be more reactive than the 1(3)A' state, due apparently to its more attractive nature in the entrance channel. The CN products in both electronic states are highly excited in both vibrational and rotational degrees of freedom. Abstract:Abstract Sulfur-bearing species are frequently used to investigate the physical structure of star-forming regions in the interstellar medium, yet the underlying sulfur chemistry in these regions remains poorly understood. Hence, further study of S-bearing species is of fundamental importance as it can help us to imporve our udnerstanding of physical evolution of star-forming regions. We present observations of C2S and C3S in L1544 acquired with the Nanshan-26 meter radio telescope (NSRT) along with simulations of their chemical behavior of the using a one-dimensional physical model. The simulated results reveal significant radial variations in the column densities of C2S and C3S. Additionally, we found that the column densities of both C2S and C3S are sensitive to the cosmic ray ionization rate at several radial positions, while our chosen range of C/O values has a comparatively minimal impact in L1544.

Abstract:We discuss the HCN + H − reaction as a path to the formation of CN − , the smallest cyanopolyyne anion observed in several interstellar environments. We first obtain the new ab initio reactive potential energy surface using a full 5D representation, where only the C–N bond is kept fixed, and discuss the neural network procedure employed to yield an accurate fit for the dynamics. The reaction is then investigated by using a quasi-classical trajectory approach to scan the low-temperature range of the dark molecular clouds where the anion has been sighted. Calculations are extended to room temperature to make a successful comparison with existing experimental data. We further present reduced dimensionality modeling of the reaction as a 2D process within a variational-transition state treatment with the inclusion of long-range forces. The dominant role of such forces in producing large reaction rate coefficients is discussed for both treatments, which yield very similar sizes and behavior of such coefficients from 50 to 300 K. The implications of our results for the interstellar medium formation of the CN − species via this chemical route are discussed, suggesting its greater significance over the radiative electron attachment paths, whose rate coefficients were found by recent calculations to be orders of magnitude smaller.

Abstract:The reaction between atomic carbon in its ground electronic state, C(3P), and nitrous oxide, N2O, has been studied below room temperature due to its potential importance for astrochemistry, with both species considered to be present at high abundance levels in a range of interstellar environments. On the experimental side, we measured rate constants for this reaction over the 50-296 K range using a continuous supersonic flow reactor. C(3P) atoms were generated by the pulsed photolysis of carbon tetrabromide at 266 nm and were detected by pulsed laser induced fluorescence at 115.8 nm. Additional measurements allowing the major product channels to be elucidated were also performed. On the theoretical side, statistical rate theory was used to calculate low temperature rate constants. These calculations employed the results of new electronic structure calculations of the 3A" potential energy surface of CNNO and provided a basis to extrapolate the measured rate constants to lower temperatures and pressures. The rate constant was found to increase monotonically as the temperature falls, reaching a value of k(C(3P)+N2O)(50 K) = (7.9 +- 0.8) x 10-11 cm3 s-1 at 50 K. As current astrochemical models do not include the C + N2O reaction, we tested the influence of this process on interstellar N2O and other related species using a gas-grain model of dense interstellar clouds. These simulations predict that N2O abundances decrease significantly at intermediate times (10^3 - 10^5 years) when gas-phase C(3P) abundances are high.

Abstract:The reaction of N (4S) radical with NCO (X2Π) radical has been studied theoretically using density functional theory and ab initio quantum chemistry method. The triplet electronic state [ N 2 CO ] potential energy surface (PES) is calculated at the G3B3 and CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVDZ//B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) levels of theory. All the energies of the transition states and isomers in the pathway RP1 are lower than that of the reactants; the rate of this pathway should be very fast. Thus, the novel reaction N + NCO can proceed effectively even at low temperatures and it is expected to play a role in both combustion and interstellar processes. On the basis of the analysis of the kinetics of all pathways through which the reactions proceed, we expect that the competitive power of reaction pathways may vary with experimental conditions for the title reaction.

Formation Mechanism and Spectroscopy of C6H Radicals in Extreme Environments: a Theoretical Study.

Abstract:This study examined the reaction mechanisms of singlet (rhombic) and triplet (linear) C4 with acetylene by using accurate ab initio CCSD(T)/CBS//B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) calculations followed by a kinetic analysis of various reaction pathways and computations of relative product yields in combustion and planetary atmospheres. These calculations were combined with the Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus (RRKM) calculations of reaction rate constants for predicting product-branching ratios, which depend on the collision energy under single-collision conditions. The results demonstrate that the initial reaction begins with the formation of an intermediate 3i2 with an entrance barrier of 3.0 kcal mol-1 and an intermediate 1i1 without entrance barriers. The product-branching ratios obtained by solving kinetic equations with individual rate constants calculated using the RRKM and variational transition-state theories for determining the collision energies between 5 kcal mol-1 and 25 kcal mol-1 demonstrate that l-C6H + H is the dominant reaction product, whereas HC3C3 + H, l-C6 + H2, c-C6H + H, and c-C6 + H2 are minor products. The electronic absorption spectra of solid neon matrices in the range of 17 140-22 200 cm-1 were obtained by Maier et al., and the optimized ground and excited state structures of C6H were used to simulate the absorption spectra by one-photon excitation equations. The displaced harmonic oscillator approximation and the Franck-Condon approximation were used to simulate the absorption spectrum of the B2Π ← X2Π transition of C6H. This indicates that the vibronic structures were dominated by one of the six active completely symmetric modes, with v3 being the most crucial.

Formation of anionic C,N-bearing chains in the Interstellar medium via reactions of H$^{-}$ with HC$_x$N for odd-valued x from 1 to 7

Abstract:We investigate the relative efficiencies of low-temperature chemical reactions in the Interstellar medium (ISM) with H$^-$ anion reacting in the gas phase with cyanopolyyne neutral molecules, leading to the formation of anionic C$_x$N$^-$ linear chains of different length and of H$_2$. All the reactions turn out to be without barriers, highly exothermic reactions which provide a chemical route to the formation of anionic chains of the same length . Some of the anions have been observed in the dark molecular clouds and in the diffuse interstellar <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://envelopes.Quantum" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> calculations are carried for the corresponding reactive potential energy surfaces (RPESs) for all the odd-numbered members of the series (x=1, 3, 5, 7). We employ the Minimum Energy paths (MEPs) to obtain the relevant Transition State (TS) configurations and use the latter within the Variational Transition State ( VTS) model to obtain the chemical rates. The present results indicate that, at typical temperatures around 100 K, a set of significantly larger rate values exists for x=3 and x=5, while are smaller for CN$^-$ and C$_7$N$^-$. At those temperatures, however, all the rates turn out to be larger than the estimates in the current literature for the Radiative Electron Attachment (REA) rates, thus indicating the greater importance of the present chemical path with respect to REA processes at those temperatures. The physical reasons for our findings are discussed in detail and linked with the existing observational findings.

Abstract:Context: The cyano propargyl radical (CH2C3N and HC3HCN) is important reaction intermediate in both combustion flames and extraterrestrial environments such as cold molecular clouds and circumstellar envelopes of carbon stars. The acquisition of spectroscopic constants and anharmonic effect facilitates a more in-depth study of this radical. However, the data available in the literature do not allow the precise predictions for it in the interstellar medium. In this work, complete spectroscopic parameters as well as anharmonic constants of two radicals of C4H2N have been evaluated by different DFT methods. The calculated results show that it is reasonable to study the molecular spectroscopic properties of C4H2N by wB97XD/6-311++G theoretical level. On this basis, the sextic centrifugal distortion constants, anharmonic constants, vibration-rotation interaction constants, and so on are predicted for the study of high-precision rovibrational spectrum. In addition, the relationship between the anharmonic effect and vibration mode of CH2C3N and HC3HCN and their infrared spectroscopic characteristics are discussed. Methods: The calculation of the anharmonic force fields and spectroscopy properties was performed using B3LYP, B3PW91, CAM-B3LYP, and wB97XD methods combined with the 6-311++G and aug-ccpVTZ basis sets, respectively, by the Gaussian16 program suite. The IR spectra were performed with Multiwfn3.8.

Abstract:The reaction for N(4S)+C2H5 has been studied by DFT method. The geometries of the reactants, the intermediates, the transition states and the products are optimized at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level. The corresponding vibration frequencies are calculated at the same level. The single-point calculations for all the stationary points are carried out at the QCISD(T)/6-311+G(d,p) level using the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) optimized geometries. The all energies were refined at the G3B3 level. The results of the theoretical study indicate that the major products are the C2H4+3NH and H2CN+CH3 in the reaction. The majority of the products C2H4+3NH are formed via a direct hydrogen abstraction pathway c1: (R)→TS1→(C). While the products H2CN+CH3 are produced via an addition/elimination pathway a: (R)→IM1→TS2→(A). In addition, the CH3CHN+H are found to be the possible products. Furthermore, the products CH3CHN and H2CN can undergo dissociation into the products HCN and CH3CN at higher temperatures.

Abstract:The CN+C2H4 reaction has been investigated experimentally, in crossed molecular beam (CMB) experiments at the collision energy of 33.4kJ/mol, and theoretically, by electronic structure calculations of the relevant potential energy surface and Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus (RRKM) estimates of the product branching ratio. Differently from previous CMB experiments at lower collision energies, but similarly to a high energy study, we have some indication that a second reaction channel is open at this collision energy, the characteristics of which are consistent with the channel leading to CH2CHNC+H. The RRKM estimates using M06L electronic structure calculations qualitatively support the experimental observation of C2H3NC formation at this and at the higher collision energy of 42.7kJ/mol of previous experiments.

Abstract:Rate constants have been measured for the C(3P) + CH3CN reaction between 50 K and 296 K using a continuous-flow supersonic reactor. C(3P) atoms were created by the in-situ pulsed laser photolysis of CBr4 at 266 nm, while the kinetics of C(3P) atom loss were followed by direct vacuum ultra-violet laser induced fluorescence at 115.8 nm. Secondary measurements of product H(2S) atom formation were also made, allowing absolute H-atom yields to be obtained by comparison with those obtained for the C(3P) + C2H4 reference reaction. In parallel, quantum chemical calculations were performed to obtain the various complexes, adducts and transition states relevant to the title reaction over the triplet potential energy surface, allowing us to better understand the preferred reaction pathways. The reaction is seen to be very fast, with measured rate constants in the range (3-4) x 10-10 cm3 s-1 with little or no observed temperature dependence. As the C + CH3CN reaction is not considered in current astrochemical networks, we test its influence on interstellar methyl cyanide abundances using a gas-grain dense interstellar cloud model. Its inclusion leads to predicted CH3CN abundances that are significantly lower than the observed ones.

Abstract:Despite the fact that the majority of current models assume that interstellar complex organic molecules (iCOMs) are formed on dust-grain surfaces, there is some evidence that neutral gas-phase reactions play an important role. In this paper, we investigate the reaction occurring in the gas phase between methylamine (CH$_3$NH$_2$) and the cyano (CN) radical, for which only fragmentary and/or inaccurate results have been reported to date. This case study allows us to point out the pivotal importance of employing quantum-chemical calculations at the state of the art. Since the two major products of the CH$_3$NH$_2$ + CN reaction, namely the CH$_3$NH and CH$_2$NH$_2$ radicals, have not been spectroscopically characterized yet, some effort has been made for filling this gap.
