Abstract:With rapid population expansion, urban development, and improved quality of life in most parts of the world, agricultural development is playing an increasingly important role in the global economy. Agricultural development is essential for food security and for bringing millions of people out of poverty and starvation to build and maintain a stable society. In Asia, the livestock industry is the most crucial part of agricultural development and has been growing at an unprecedented pace in the last few decades. Livestock products contribute 40% of the total agricultural output in global sales, are growing faster than any other agricultural sub-sector, and are expected to contribute more than 50% of the total agricultural output by 2015. In Asia, changes in international trade policies, population growth, limited resources, and environmental destruction have created both challenges and opportunities for the livestock industry.
