Abstract:The study builds a cross-level work process control-based model of psychological ownership in a Chinese context. We operationalize individual-level control as participative decision-making and unit-level control as the self-managing team climate. We further theorize how the value orientation of employees to power differentials moderates the mediating effects of psychological ownership on the relationship between the two levels of control and employee outcomes. We found that the positive effects of control experiences on some outcomes are mediated by psychological ownership. Additionally, power distance moderates the mediating role of psychological ownership. Our results suggest that, in order to cultivate the positive effects of perceived control on employee contributions, managers should pay attention to employees high in power distance since these individuals are reluctant to exercise control. Training or encouraging these individuals to participate in decision making may help them cultivate the positive feelings of psychological ownership.

Abstract:We used the virtual hand illusion paradigm to study how sense of agency and sense of (body) ownership can interact with different emotional events on stress feelings. Converging evidence for at least the partial independence of agency and ownership was found. For instance, sense of agency was a better predictor of individual anxiety levels than sense of ownership and males showed stronger effects related to agency-presumably due to gender-specific attribution styles and empathy skills. Moreover, agency and ownership also interacted with emotional events and led to different anxiety levels. Taken together, our findings suggest that the disentangled sense of agency and sense of ownership can interact with different emotional events and influenced stress feelings more in threatening situations than awarding ones.

Abstract:Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between job- and organization-based psychological ownership. In addition, the authors explored the emergence and outcomes of psychological ownership in Chinese context. Design/methodology/approach - Time-lagged survey data from 158 Chinese participants were used to test several hypothesized relationships employing partial least square techniques. Findings - Job-based psychological ownership appeared to mediate the relationship between experienced job control and organization-based psychological ownership. In addition, a statistically significant relationship between job- based psychological ownership and job satisfaction, organizational citizenship behaviors and turnover intentions, and a statistically significant relationship between organization-based psychological ownership and job satisfaction were observed. A negative relationship between organization-based psychological ownership and knowledge withholding was also observed. Practical implications - Managers who want to enhance employees' job- and ultimately organization-based psychological ownership should empower their employees by enabling them to exert control over their work. Originality/value - This paper examined how organization-based psychological ownership emerges from control over work via job-based psychological ownership. The authors also investigated the impact of psychological ownership in Chinese context.

Abstract:Job-based psychological ownership arises when workers develop personal feelings of possession over various aspects of a job. Drawing on conservation of resources and regulatory focus theory, the current research adopts a resource-based perspective to suggest a double-edged effect on job performance, mediated by three forms of territoriality (marking, defending, expanding) and information exchange and moderated by individual regulatory focus. With a multistep process in Study 1, the authors develop and validate a territorial expanding scale. Among 358 employee-supervisor dyads, Study 2 tests the proposed model; job-based psychological ownership prompts employees to engage in territorial marking, defending, and expanding. Territorial defending correlates negatively with information exchange, territorial expanding is positively related to it, and territorial marking has no relationship with information exchange. Information exchange is positively related to job performance. Job-based psychological ownership impedes job performance through increased territorial defending and reduced information exchange, especially among employees with a prevention focus. It enhances job performance through increased territorial expanding and increased information exchange, particularly if employees have a high promotion focus. Abstract:To obtain the competitive advantages of lower cost,better performance,and greater flexibility,it was increasingly important for organizations to empower employees.This study adopted a moderating approach to explore how psychological climate was related to job performance by psychological empowerment.Data were collected from 307 employees of 18 companies in Beijing,Shanghai and Changsha.The results of correlation analysis,analysis of variance and linear regression analysis showed: ① Psychological empowerment was related to psychological climate and job performance,and job performance was related to psychological climate;② Dimensions of psychological climate and psychological empowerment had good predictive effects of task performance,context performance and job performance;③ Psychological climate could predict job performance,and psychological empowerment was a moderating variable;the moderating effect was shown in the two facets of self-determination and self-efficacy.

Abstract:Job engagement denotes the extent to which an employee invests the full self in performing the job. Extant research has investigated the positive outcomes of job engagement, paying little attention to its potential costs to the organizations. Integrating the extended self theory and the literature on psychological ownership as our overarching theoretical framework, we develop and test the double-edged effects of job engagement on workplace outcomes through the mediating role of job-based psychological ownership. Analyses of two survey studies with multisource multiphase data support that job engagement can lead to positive workplace outcomes including in-role performance and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) through job-based psychological ownership. At the same time, job engagement is also positively related to negative workplace outcomes including territorial behavior, knowledge hiding, and pro-job unethical behavior through the same mechanism of job-based psychological ownership. These indirect effects of job engagement on negative work outcomes are amplified by employees' avoidance motivation. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Eliciting Psychological Ownership of Object by Marking Organizational Name: the Role of Belongingness

Abstract:Psychological ownership critically entails the need for home (a place in which to dwell or a place of belongingness). However, the question of how an individual’s need for belongingness within an organization affects their psychological ownership of organization-linked objects remains unexplored. We first conducted a behavioral study to determine whether psychological ownership of object can be elicited by marking the object with the name of the subjects’ organization. The participants in this behavioral study reported a higher level of psychological ownership when objects were marked with their own organization’s name (i.e., in-organization objects) compared with objects marked with another organization’s name (i.e., out-organization objects). Importantly, this effect was more pronounced among subjects who experienced a stronger sense of organizational belongingness. We subsequently conducted a second study to explore its underlying neural mechanism. Our findings indicated that participants with a higher level of perceived organizational belongingness exhibited a significantly larger amplitude of the P300 component of event-related potential in response to in-organization objects compared with their response to out-organization objects. However, no significant difference in the P300 component was found for participants who lacked a sense of organizational belongingness.

Abstract:In this paper,psychological ownership is proposed based on the work itself of psychological ownership and a research on these two concepts is taken respectively for studying their impact on organizational behavior and the impact of their unbalanced development on organizational behavior.Through theoretical analysis and empirical testing,the result shows that both psychological ownership of organization and the work itself can explain organizational commitment,job satisfaction,OCB and ERB.But psychological ownership of work itself may explain more.Psychological ownership presents some differences on the organization and the working level and shows the development of non-equilibrium phenomena.Such non-balanced development of psychological ownership lowers organizational commitment and job satisfaction,and has a negative impact on OCB and ERB.Furthermore,this paper explains the generation mechanism of the dark side of psychological ownership and then proposes solutions to possible problems.

Abstract:As work teams have increasingly become the cornerstone of the post bureaucratic organization, there have been calls for a greater understanding of collective thought and action. Such understanding is deemed important for the design and management of teamwork. Theory suggests that feelings of ownership manifest themselves at the collective level, and positively affect team performance effectiveness. This study illuminates the role played by teamwork complexity and team self-management in the emergence of the psychological processes that are associated with the manifestation of job-focused collective psychological ownership (CPO). In addition, employment of serial mediation suggests that both teamwork dimensions put employees on two routes (intimate knowing of and the collective investment of the team members' selves into the job) that lead to the emergence of a collective sense of ownership, and together these two route variables and CPO sequentially mediated a positive relationship between teamwork design and team performance effectiveness.

Abstract:In recent years, there has been a growing interest in collective psychology ownership in different disciplines. However, and in contrast to a feeling of personal ownership ("mine"), the theoretical thinking about a sense of collective ownership ("ours") is limited. This article proposes that the social identity perspective (social identity theory and self-categorization theory) provides a coherent framework for understanding and examining collective psychological ownership toward various targets of ownership and in a range of settings. It is argued that research on collective ownership will be enhanced by more fully considering the implications of this perspective, which include (a) the importance of the group self and self-stereotyping, (b) developing ingroup consensus and shared understandings, (c) the role of sociotropic threat and group identification, and (d) the importance of the sociocultural context. These implications have not been fully considered in the literature but indicate that the social identity perspective offers the possibility for theoretically integrating and empirically examining collective psychological ownership.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between empowerment and organizational citizenship behavior. Moreover, we examined the mediating effect of psychological ownership of job. Data were collected from a sample of 298 supervisor-subordinate dyads working in high-tech companies in China. The results revealed that empowerment is positively related to organizational citizenship behavior. Moreover, job-based psychological ownership partially mediates the relationship between empowerment and overall OCB / OCB-O, and fully mediates the relationship between empowerment and OCB-I.

Abstract:Collective psychological ownership has been studies as the latest issue in the field of psychology. Existing studies have not yet explored the mechanism of how collective psychological ownership affects team creativity. This study aims to address the above gaps by examining whether, when and how Collective psychological ownership has impacted on team creativity. Based on the Motived Information Processing in Group Model, this paper first empirically explores the mechanism of collective psychological ownership on team creativity. This study theorizes that collective psychological ownership could affect information elaboration, and in turn enhanced team creativity. At the same time, criteria for status promotion would moderated the positive relationship that collective psychological ownership affects team creativity through information elaboration.In order to test our hypothesized model, we invited 101 Knowledge-based team leaders and their 800 subordinates who came from 16 big companies located in Wuhan, Zhengzhou and Guangzhou to participate in this research survey. In the end, we got 91 leader-followers dyads. As for scale to measure criteria for status promotion, we learned from Liu et al. (2013) measurement method of how to measure criteria for status promotion. Also, we adopte two items which are Adapted from the scale of Pierce et al (2004) to measure collective psychological ownership, as well as other measurements were well-established scales. Confirmatory factor analyses showed satisfactory model fit indices. Inter-rated agreement (Rwg) and intra-class correlation (ICC) value justified the aggregation of team information elaboration, Collective psychological ownership, Relationship conflict, Team Learning Behavior and Team Creativity.A hierarchical regression analysis method is adopted to test the hypothesized model. Results showed that collective psychology ownership has a positive impact on team creativity, and information elaboration mediates the relationship between collective psychological ownership and team creativity. Criteria for status promotion moderates the relationship between collective psychological ownership and information elaboration. However, criteria for status promotion does not significantly moderates the relationship between collective psychological ownership and team creativity through information elaboration.The present research makes some contributions to the Existing literature. First, by examining the positive effect of Collective psychological ownership on team creativity, this research proves the effectiveness of Collective psychological ownership beyond past literatures. Second, this study indicates the mediating role of information elaboration as well as its boundary conditions. For the practical implications, this research suggests that strengthening awareness of collective psychological ownership is conducive to the promotion of information elaboration and team creativity, also leaders should realize that criteria for status promotion will lead to different levels of competition, which impacts the relationship between collective psychological ownership and information elaboration.

Abstract:Based on a two-wave survey for 236 employees from 15 Ministry of Public Security's research units located in four regions,the study explores the psychological mechanism of high commitment work system in the view of psychological ownership.The results demonstrate that psychological ownership fully mediates the relationship between high commitment work system and career satisfaction.The findings provide significant implications to the practice and research germane to strategic human resource management in public research institutions.

Abstract:Organizations are confronted with increasing social responsibility to contribute to environmental sustainability. Employee organizational citizenship behavior toward the environment (OCBE) is considered essential to organizational environment performance. Drawing upon the theory of psychological ownership, the study investigated the effects of empowering leadership on employee OCBE by a sample of 374 employees in China. With the use of the bootstrapping technique in SPSS 25 to test our proposed moderated mediation model, results demonstrated a positive relationship between empowering leadership and OCBE through the mechanism of employee psychological ownership. Further, we found that the indirect effect is stronger when employees hold high rather than low future time perspectives. The theoretical implications for sustainability literature and practical implications for organizations striving for environmental sustainability are discussed.
Improving Sponsor’s Experience in Reward-Based Crowdfunding: A Psychological Ownership Perspective

Abstract:Psychological ownership brings new perspective to understand individual behaviors in organization, team, and the information system areas. In this research we use this theory to investigate how to improve sponsor experience in the context of reward-based crowdfunding. We propose that psychological ownership is one important mental state for sponsors in crowdfunding. The research model in this study shows that psychological ownership could predict sponsor’s commitment to project and continuous intention to contribute to it. Sponsors can develop the feeling of psychological ownership through three routes, i.e., perceived control, intimate knowing, and self-investment. In addition, social capital (sponsor expertise, social trust in entrepreneur and social ties) and social interaction (sponsor participation and entrepreneur activeness) are hypothesized to be important antecedents to the routes to psychological ownership in crowdfunding. The research model and hypotheses will be tested with survey data from www.zhongchou.cn, a famous crowdfunding platform in China. The expected research findings would provide interesting implications for research and practice.

Abstract:Augmented reality (AR) provides users with a unique social space where virtual objects are natural parts of the real world. The users can interact with 3D virtual objects and virtual humans projected onto the physical environment. This work examines perceived ownership based on the reality of objects and partners, as well as object controllability in a shared AR setting. Our formal user study with 28 participants shows a sense of possession, control, separation, and partner presence affect their perceived ownership of a shared object. Finally, we discuss the findings and present a conclusion.

Abstract:A theoretical model of the relationship between supportive human resource practices and ESB was constructed with psychological empowerment as mediating variables.The linear-regression analysis based on data of 43 supervisors and 432 subordinates from 5 firms was conducted.The empirical result indicates that supportive human resource practices negatively influences ESB;psychological empowerment has a mediating effect between supportive human resource practices and ESB;the moderating effect of proactive personality is validated.When level of proactive personality is high,correlation level between psychological empowerment and ESB is high and vice versa.

Abstract:Increasing research has revealed that organizational members possessing feelings of psychological ownership over their organizations experience more positive work related attitudes and contribute more to their organizations. The aim of the present study is to investigate and compare psychological ownership between the employees of public and private service organizations. Specifically, we examined the five foundations of psychological ownership, i.e. territoriality, self-efficacy, accountability, sense of belongingness and self-identity. We proposed hypotheses about differences of psychological ownership in public and private organizations based on theories of organizational behavior and observations. And we employed a survey approach with the Psychological Ownership Questionnaire (POQ) to empirically evaluate these hypotheses in aerospace organizations of Pakistan. The differences have been assessed, private organization employees having a higher sense of psychological ownership. The reasons for this difference and the impact on performance is discussed at the end. Managers aspiring to bring out the best in their employees can infer interesting ideas from our research.
