Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling of potassium 2- and 4-nitrophenyl acetates with aryl chlorides and bromides has been developed. Because the nitro group can be readily converted to many other functional groups, the new reaction provides a useful method for the preparation of diverse 1,1-diaryl methanes and their derivatives.

Abstract:Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-couplings of 2-(2-azaaryl)acetates with aryl halides and triflates have been discovered. This reaction is potentially useful for the synthesis of some functionalized pyridines, quinolines, pyrazines, benzoxazoles, and benzothiazoles. Theoretical analysis shows that the nitrogen atom at the 2-position of the heteroaromatics directly coordinates to Pd(II) in the decarboxylation transition state.

Abstract:An efficient synthesis of novel fused heterocycles has been established via microwave-assisted palladium-catalyzed intramolecular direct arylation. The acyclic aryl bromides are readily available from microwave-assisted one-pot annulation of N-(2-bromobenzyl)-2-aminophenois and ethyl 2-bromoalkanoates. The intramolecular direct arylation is then performed in the presence of palladium(II) acetate and dppf (10 mol% each) in toluene using potassium carbonate (2 equiv) as the base under microwave heating (150 degrees C, 1 h) to afford the products in 43-99% yields. Steric effect is observed for Ar-Ar bond formation, giving a substantial amount of the debromination byproduct.

Abstract:We describe the direct synthesis of organophosphorus compounds from ubiquitous aryl and vinyl carboxylic acids via decarbonylative palladium catalysis. The catalytic system shows excellent scope and tolerates a wide range of functional groups (>50 examples). The utility of this powerful methodology is highlighted in the late-stage derivatization directly exploiting the presence of the prevalent carboxylic acid functional group. DFT studies provided insight into the origin of high bond activation selectivity and P(O)-H isomerization pathway.

Abstract:The direct transformation of aryl carboxylic acids to aryl nitrile compounds is an interesting topic because carboxylic acids are not only abundant in nature but are also inexpensive and stable. Here, the synthesis of a series of aryl nitriles by palladium-catalyzed decarbonylative cyanation of carboxylic acids without base has been achieved. The successful decarbonylative cyanation of drug molecules and Gram-scale reaction to verify the practicality and operability of this method are analyzed.

Abstract:A ligand-free palladium-catalyzed and norbornadiene-mediated annulation reaction of iodoarenes with methyl 2-haloarenecarboxylates is reported. Abstract:In this study, we demonstrate that phosphinoacridines are efficient bidentate ligands for palladium‐catalyzed carboxylative C‐N coupling reactions under blue LED irradiation. This method facilitates the direct synthesis of arylcarbamates using a range of non‐activated aryl halides, such as iodides and bromides, with various amines under atmospheric pressure of CO2. The optimized conditions exhibit high tolerance to sensitive functional groups, resulting in very good to excellent yields of the desired products. This approach expands the scope of palladium‐catalyzed carboxylation reactions and offers an environmentally friendly route to arylcarbamates.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed reductive coupling between N-tosylhydrazones and aryl bromides has been developed. The reaction provides an efficient method for the synthesis of diarylmethanes and triarylmethanes via the formation of C(sp(2))-C(sp(3)) single bonds. This new methodology for the synthesis of diarylmethanes and triarylmethanes is featured by the ready availability of the starting materials, mild reaction conditions, and the tolerance of wide range of functional groups. The reaction follows a pathway including palladium carbene formation, migratory insertion, and reduction of the alkylpalladium(II) intermediate.
