Abstract:The hydrohalogenation reactions of electron-deficient allenes, such as 1,2-allenic ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amides, nitriles, sulfoxides (with the use of AlX3/H2O), sulfones, and phosphine oxides with MX (X = I, Br, Cl, M = Na, Li) in different solvents, such as HOAc, CF3COOH-HOAc (1 : 1), CF3COOH and THF were studied. The reaction is nucleophilic conjugate addition in nature and provides efficient entries to 1-functionalized 2-halo-2-alkenes. The β,γ- over α,β-selectivity and stereoselectivity depend on the solvent(s) and the temperature applied. In most cases, the Z- and E-isomers can be easily separated with chromatography on silica gel. The subsequent cross coupling reaction with organometallic reagents and terminal alkynes showed the synthetic potential of these products.

Abstract:In this paper, it was reported that double 1,2-addition reaction of 2,3-allenoates with allyl magnesium chloride at room temperature in the absence of any transition metal catalyst provides an efficient method for the synthesis of tertiary alpha-allenols. The optically active allenol could be prepared from the reaction of the optically active 2,3-allenoate without obvious racemization of the axial chirality. Under different reaction conditions, cyclization reactions of alpha-allenol 2i prepared have been studied for the synthesis of different 2,5-dihydrofuran derivatives.

Abstract:Previously, we observed that the electrophilic reaction of 2,3-allenols with X(+) (X = Br, I) affords 3-halo-2-alkenals or 2-halo-2-alkenyl ketones in aqueous MeCN (MeCN/H(2)O = 15:1). However, the reaction of tertiary 2,3-allenols with NBS under these reaction conditions affords a mixture of rearrangement products (aldehydes or ketones) together with 1-bromovinyl epoxides in a low selectivity. Due to the synthetic potential of 2-haloallylic ketones, we decided to explore this reaction further. After screening, we observed that the electrophilic reaction of terminal tertiary 2,3-allenols with NBS in water affords 2-bromoallylic ketones highly selectively in up to 97% yields via a sequential electrophilic interaction of Br(+) with the allene moiety to form a possible three-membered bromonium intermediate with the more substituted C=C bond, which would be followed by 1,2-aryl or 1,2-alkyl shift to open the strained three-membered ring and proton elimination to form the carbonyl functionality. When both R(1) and R(2) (the substituents on the carbon atom connected to the hydroxyl groups) are alkyl groups, one of these two groups is migrated; with 1,2-propadienyl cycloalkanols, a ring expansion reaction was observed; with R(1) being an aryl group, R(1) would be transferred exclusively to form the 2-bromoallylic ketones. Interestingly, these 2-bromo-1-aryl-2-propenyl ketones may easily be converted into 1,2-allenyl ketones after column chromatography on silica gel pre-eluented with 10 drops of Et(3)N; when there is at least an alkyl substituent on the 4-position of the tertiary 2,3-allenols, their electrophilic reaction with NBS in CH(3)CN/H(2)O = 15/1 or H(2)O, under the same reaction conditions as above, affords 3-bromo-2,5-dihydrofurans in 61-84% yields, indicating that the electronic effect and the steric effect of the two C=C bonds determine the reaction pathway, i.e., the Br(+) interacts with the C=C bond at the 3-position.

Abstract:Claisen rearrangements of allyl aryl ethers to generate enones bearing all carbon quaternary centers are accelerated by Ph3PAuNTf2 under mild conditions in good yields. Multiple C-C bond containing variants of the allyl fragment are viable, including alkylidenecyclopropanes, allenes, and alkynes, which generate all-carbon stereogenic centers substituted with vinyl cyclopropanes, 1,3-butadienyl, and allenyl substituents, respectively, for subsequent synthetic manipulation. With allyl phenyl ethers, the product of the [3,3] rearrangements can be trapped by a tandem [4 + 2] cycloaddition to generate complex molecular scaffolds from readily available, achiral starting materials.

Abstract:Recently, much attention has been paid to the chemistry of 1,2 - allenyl ketones, due to their high and unique reactivity. In this paper we wish to review the synthesis and reaction of 1,2 - allenyl ketones.1,2 - Allenyl ketones can be synthesized by the following methods:(1) Oxidation of homopropargylic alcohols to the propargyl ketones, followed by the isomerization;(2) Reaction of appropriate organometallic reagents with esters, acyl chlorides or amides;(3) Oxidation of 2,3 - allenyl alcohols;(4) [2,3] or [3,3] Rearrangement of the corresponding functionalized alkynes;(5) Reaction of the corresponding Wittig reagents with acyl chloride or ketenes;(6) Elimination of beta - halogen beta, gamma - or alpha, beta - unsaturated enones; and others.1,2 - Allenyl ketones can participate nucleophilic addition, cycloaddition and cyclization reactions.(1) The 1,4 - nucleophilic reaction with 1,2 - allenyl ketones selectively afforded beta, gamma - or alpha, beta - unsaturated enones. Nucleophiles could be ROH, RSH, RR'NH, HX.(2) Reaction of LiAH(4), DIBAL or organomagnesium with the carbonyl groups of 1,2 - allenyl ketones afforded the 1,2- addition products allenyl alcohols.(3) The cycloaddition of 1,2- allenyl ketones with 1,3 - butadienes, 1,3 - cyclopentadienes, and furans to provide efficient routes to six - membered products. The 1,3 - dipolar cycloaddition of 1,2 - allenyl ketones with diazomethane afforded five - membered heterocyclic compounds.(4) 1,2 - Allenyl ketones can be thermally rearranged to furans. The cyclization reaction can also be catalyzed by silver(I) and Pd(II).(5) Allenyl ketones bearing an aryl group are prone to proceed a new intramolecular electrophilic substitution reaction using BF3. OEt2 or Hg(ClO4)(2) as the catalyst.

Abstract:A zinc or indium-mediated Barbier-type addition reaction of 2,3-allenals with allyl bromide in a mixed medium of aqueous NH4Cl and THF (5 : 2) was developed to provide an efficient route to 1,5,6-alkatrien-4-ols, which is synthetically very useful. No 1,4-addition reaction was observed. Depending on the substrates, both indium and activated zinc afforded the 1,2-addition products in moderate to excellent yields: for terminal allenals, activated zinc was better while in other cases the yields with indium were relatively higher.

Abstract:We developed the Ti‐catalyzed regioselective reductive coupling of readily available aldehydes and racemic propargyl bromides to rapidly access a wide range of α‐allenols. This method proceeds efficiently in a reductive radical‐polar crossover manner featuring mild conditions, excellent regioselectivity control, broad substrate scope, and eco‐friendliness. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the radical‐involved catalytic cycle. DFT calculations demonstrate that the regioselectivity is determined by the Zimmerman‐Traxler‐type transition states. Comprehensive Summary The direct reductive coupling of carbonyl compounds with propargyl halides is a powerful and reliable tool in the synthesis of α‐allenols. However, stoichiometric metal reductants, harsh reaction conditions and a variety of additional additives are required in the traditional strategies. Additionally, the reactivity and regioselectivity control remains an elusive challenge. Abstract:An efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed stepwise ortho allylation of N-methoxybenzamides 1 with polysubstituted allenes is reported. This C-H functionalization involving allenes is conducted under very mild conditions (-20 °C or room temperature) and compatible with ambient air and moisture, and it can be applied to terminal or internal allenes with different synthetically attractive functional groups. Highly efficient axial chirality transfer has been realized, yielding optically active lactones.
