Abstract:Objective:To investigate association between urinary prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and overactive bladder (OAB). A Meta-analysis was formulated to appraise the diagnostic role of urinary PGE2 in OAB.Methods:Studies about the relationship between urinary PGE2 and OAB were identified by searching PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane library CNKI and WanFang datebase from inception to April 2020 by computer. Literature screening, data extraction and literature quality evaluation were performed by two researchers independently, and Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager Version 5.3 software. Results:A total of 6 published studies were included in this Meta-analysis. The results showed that the level of urinary PGE2 ( SMD=3.85, 95% CI: 0.96~6.74, P=0.009) in patients with OAB was significantly higher than control group. There was a significant difference in the level of urinary PGE2/Cr ( SMD=0.39, 95% CI: 0.04~0.74, P=0.03) between patients with OAB and those with interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS). Conclusions:This Meta-analysis shows that it is believable that the level of urinary PGE2 is significantly increased in patients with OAB, but urinary PGE2 does not seem to be a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of OAB, nor can it be used as a potential biomarker for the identification of OAB and IC/PBS. Due to the limitations of the sample size and quality of the study, whether urinary PGE2 can be used as a biomarker of OAB in clinical application, more high-quality studies should be carried out to strictly control the confounding factors.
