A NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS HYNOBIUS FROM GUANGXI ZHUANG AUTONOMOUS REGION, CHINA (CAUDATA, HYNOBIIDAE)

Abstract:A new species of Hynobius was collected in Guangxi Maoershan, Feb. 2003 and Nov. 2005.It is different from other species in the genus Hynobius. And it was recognized as a new species to science,ie. Hynobius maoershanensis sp. nov.Hynobius maoershanensis sp. nov.(Figs. 1-6)Diagnosis. This new species is distinguished from other species of Hynobius by follow: bigger body; premaxillary fontanelle absent;vomerine teeth in “Vshaped and the terminal of inside twigs don't connect; 12 costal grooves between foreleg and hind leg,10 costal grooves on ventral; the overlap length between finger and toe is 2.5-3.0 costal grooves when they meet along body; tail length longer, about 84% SVL; egg sac not longer than 200mm,and curve-shaped.Holotype, GXUA No.05111001,adult male, Xingan County(25°52′N,110°24′E; alt. 2015m),Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 10 Nov.2005,by WANG Shao-Neng. Allotype. GXUA No. 05112301,adult female, collected from the same locality as the holotype,23 Nov.2005, by JIANG Ai-Wu and CHEN Yu-Gong. Paratypes. GXUA No.03020401, adult male, GXUA No.03020402, adult female, collected from the nearby locality as the Holotype (25°53′N,110°25′E; alt. 1978m,), 4 Feb.2003, by WANG Shao-Neng; MESH No.05111001, MESH No.05111002, adult male, collected from the same locality as the holotype,10 Nov.2005, by WANG Shao-Neng; GXUA No.05112302, adult male, GXUA No.05112303, adult female, collected from the same locality as the holotype,23 Nov.2005,by JIANG Ai-Wu and CHEN Yu-Gong.Holotype, allotype and some paratypes(GXUA No.03020401, GXUA No.03020402, GXUA No.05112302, GXUA No.05112303) are deposited in the College of Animal Science and Technology, Guangxi University; some paratypes(MESH No.05111001, MESH No.05111002) are deposited in the Guangxi Maoershan National Natural Reserve.
