Abstract:To evaluate the pollution situation and activity of heavy metals, Cd, Cr, Zn and Ni, in the natural tea garden soils, the content and fractionation of Cd, Cr, Zn and Ni in the tea garden soils were studied in the paper by collecting the natural tea garden soils from four tea gardens located in main tea areas of Southwest China and using the sequential extraction procedure. The results showed that there were obvious difference in the total Cd, Cr, Zn and Ni concentrations among tea garden soils, but all of them were lower than the national second degree criteria of environmental quality for heavy metals in Chinese soils (GB15618-1995). The distribution of the heavy metals in these tea garden soils was in the decreasing order of residual approximate to exchangeable > Fe-Mn oxides > organic > carbonate for Cd and Ni and residual approximate to zexchangeable > carbonate > organic > Fe-Mn oxides for Cr and Zn, respectively. The three heavy metals, Zn, Ni and Cr, were mostly concentrated in the residual fraction, and the active fraction of Cd, however, was majority in the total amount of soil Cd. According to the active fraction percentage, the mobility and bioavailability of the metals in the tea garden soils should be the order of Cd > Ni > Cr > Zn. The higher percentage of Zn in the residual fraction probably reflects the tendency to become unavailable once it enters in tea garden soils.
