Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment
Abstract:Current stochastic finite-fault simulation approaches do not fully consider the influence of slip distribution characteristics on the corner frequency and scaling factor. Using data from the 2013 Lushan earthquake ( M w 6.7), we developed a modified finite-fault model. This model was established by incorporating the corner frequency, the rupture velocity, and a scaling factor based on a nonuniform slip distribution. In this model, the radiated energy of the entire rupture fault is distributed to each subfault based on the weighted contribution of each subfault to the total slip of the rupture fault, thus generating an improved scaling factor. The path duration and kappa coefficient are obtained using Lushan event data, while other parameters, such as the stress drop, quality factor, geometric attenuation factor, and site amplification, are selected from previous studies. To verify the reliability of the improved model, the acceleration records taken during the Lushan earthquake from 17 near-field stations with less than 100 km from the fault were synthetized by random and inverted sources, and the simulated pseudospectral acceleration, Fourier acceleration spectrum, and model bias were obtained. The peak ground accelerations of 1681 virtual points were also predicted using the modified model. It was found that the modified model can effectively improve the modelling accuracy in short periods ( T < 1 s).
