Abstract:The reaction of magnesium or zinc amides with alkyl or benzyl halides is an attractive approach to make C-N bonds, especially for electron-poor organic halides. The magnesium-promoted preparation of hindered non-nucleophilic amine (N,N-diisopropylethylamine) from ethyl chloride and zinc diisopropylamide has been studied. In this paper, instead of the application scope of this method, we focused on the mechanisms of the catalytic processes and the associated electronic origins. According to the calculations, the C-N coupling process in all selected systems proceed preferably in an ethylium-transfer mode. Further, rather than undergoing the Grignard reaction route, the more pronounced electronic interactions within the transition structure as induced by the "innocent" magnesium atom should be responsible for the observed high catalytic activity of the Mg/ZnCl2 combination.

Abstract:In this paper, we have described an efficient controllable stereoselective alpha-acylation and -allylation reaction of the magnesium dienolate intermediates generated in situ from the Fe(III)-catalyzed reaction between 2,3-allenoates and Grignard reagents with different electrophiles to afford 2-acylated or allylated 3( Z)- or ( E)-alkenoates depending on the nature of the electrophiles and reaction conditions. The distinct stereoselectivity may be caused by the isomerization of metallic Z-1,3-dienoate to E-1,3-dienoate via the intermediacy of anti-allylic MgCl and syn-metallic species.

Abstract:An efficient catalytic enantioselective hetero-Diels - Alder reaction of Danishefsky's diene with aldehydes using the magnesium binaphthoxide system has been developed, affording a variety of 2-substituted 2,3-dihydro-4H-pyran-4-ones in high yields and with excellent ee values. The aggregation behavior and nonlinear effect of the catalytic system, as well as the remarkable stereoelectronic effects of ligands on the catalysis, have also been investigated. On the basis of the structure of the isolated reaction intermediate, the stereochemistry of the products, and the information attained from a study of the nonlinear effect, a plausible asymmetric induction model has been proposed. Abstract:This article demonstrates the influence of the molar ratio between diether as internal donor and Magnesium dichloride in processing of the catalyst preparation on the catalytic performance for propylene polymerization with MgCl2-supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst. The effect of electron donor on catalyst is investigated. The experimental data find that diether content on catalyst increases and Ti content on catalyst decreases with the increase of diether/Mg molar ratio. This result indicates that diether as internal donor is not coordinated to Ti species but to Mg species on catalyst. The introduction of diether remarkably improves the catalytic activity. The extents of improvement closely connect with diether/Mg molar ratio. The stereospecificity of catalyst intensively depends on the structure of diether as internal donor. The possible model of multi-active sites on heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta catalyst is proposed to explain these phenomena. (c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
