Abstract:The North Wuyi area occurs a number of important Cu-Pb-Zn polymetallic deposits in southeastern China, but most of them are of Jurrasic-Cretaceous ages (Yanshanian). Here we report that the Chenfang skarn Fe-Cu-Sn polymetallic deposit is a new Triassic (Indosinian) deposit firstly confirmed by direct age dating of ore mineral cassiterite in this area. Zircon U-Pb dating of the biotite granite yielded an age of 226.4 +/- 1.5 Ma. The U-Pb ages of cassiterite from massive magnetite (230.3 +/- 3.6 Ma) and banded magnetite (222.5 +/- 2.5 Ma) are consistent with the U-Pb age of biotite granite, suggesting the mineralization has a close genetic relationship with the biotite granite. The biotite granite is characterized by highly siliceous (SiO2 = 75.02-77.33 wt%), high alkali (Na2O + K2O = 7.93-9.24 wt%) and strongly perlauminous (A/CNK = 1.31-1.33). The zircons from the biotite granite characterized by low epsilon Hf(t) values between -10.3 and -5.6, with Hf model ages between 1884 Ma and 1591 Ma, indicating that the magma derived mainly from partial melting of Proterozoic crustal source. The Indosinian magmatic-hydrothermal metallogenic event reported in this study, together with previous studies, suggest in the North Wuyi area occurs at least three main magmatic-hydrothermal events, namely, the MiddleLate Triassic (230 Ma to 226 Ma), Late Jurassic (160-154 Ma), and Early Cretaceous (139-136 Ma). Therefore, mineralization in the North Wuyi area has experienced a long evolution, and more attention for future exploration should put in the early Indosinian magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits.
