Abstract:The Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann equation is a classical equation governing the dynamics of charged particles with the electric force being self-imposed. We consider the system in a convex domain with the Cercignani-Lampis boundary condition. We construct a uniqueness local-in-time solution based on an $L^\infty$-estimate and $W^{1,p}$-estimate. In particular, we develop a new iteration scheme along the characteristic with the Cercignani-Lampis boundary for the $L^\infty$-estimate, and an intrinsic decomposition of boundary integral for $W^{1,p}$-estimate.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive an a prioriL2-stability estimate for classical solutions to the relativistic Boltzmann equation, when the initial datum is a small perturbation of a global relativistic Maxwellian. For the stability estimate, we use the dissipative property of the linearized collision operator and a Strichartz type estimate for classical solutions. As a direct application of our stability estimates, we establish that classical solutions in Glassey–Strauss and Hsiao–Yu's frameworks satisfy a uniform L2-stability estimate.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of stationary solutions to the Vlasov–Poisson–Boltzmann system when the background density function tends to a positive constant with a very mild decay rate as |x|→∞. In fact, the stationary Vlasov–Poisson–Boltzmann system can be written into an elliptic equation with exponential nonlinearity. Under the assumption on the decay rate being (ln(e+|x|))−α for some α>0, it is shown that this elliptic equation has a unique solution. This result generalizes the previous work [R. Glassey, J. Schaeffer, Y. Zheng, Steady states of the Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck system, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 202 (1996) 1058–1075] where the decay rate (1+|x|)−12 is assumed.

Abstract:In this work, we consider the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff and the Vlasov-Poisson-Landau system with Coulomb potential near a global Maxwellian $\mu$. We establish the global existence, uniqueness and large time behavior for solutions in a polynomial-weighted Sobolev space $H^2_{x, v}( \langle v \rangle^k)$ for some constant $k >0$. The proof is based on extra dissipation generated from semigroup method and energy estimates on electrostatic field.

Abstract:We consider the initial value problem associated to the Poisson–Nernst–Planck–Navier–Stokes system which is first derived by Wang et al. (J Differ Equ 262:68–115, 2017) through an Energetic Variational Approach (EVA). Exploiting harmonic analysis tools (especially Littlewood–Paley theory), we first study the local and global well-posedness of the system in critical Besov spaces. Then, under a suitable condition involving only low-frequency of initial data, we use the Lyapunov-type inequality of the energy functionals to establish optimal time decay rates for the constructed global solutions. The proof crucially depends on a careful analysis for treating the extra effect of the distribution for the negative (positive) charge and non-standard product estimates, interpolation inequalities.

Abstract:Based on the global existence theory of the Vlasov–Poisson–Boltzmann system around vacuum in the N-dimensional phase space, in this paper, we prove the uniform L1 stability of classical solutions for small initial data when N ≥ 4. In particular, we show that the stability can be established directly for the soft potentials, while for the hard potentials and hard sphere model it is obtained through the construction of some nonlinear functionals. These functionals thus generalize those constructed by Ha for the case without force to capture the effect of the force term on the time evolution of solutions. In addition, the local-in-time L1 stability is also obtained for the case of N = 3.

Abstract:Diffusive limit of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff in the framework of perturbation around global Maxwellian still remains open. By employing the weighted energy method with a newly introduced weight function $w_l(\alpha,\beta)$ and some novel treatments, we solve this problem for the full range of non-cutoff potentials $\gamma>-3$ and $0<s<1$. Uniform estimate with respect to the Knudsen number $\varepsilon \in (0,1]$ is established globally in time, which eventually leads to the global existence of solutions to the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff for the full range of non-cutoff potentials and hydrodynamic limit to the two-fluid incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson system with Ohm's law. As a byproduct, this approach also extends the global existence results of previous studies on the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff to the full range of non-cutoff potentials $\gamma>-3$ and $0<s<1$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the global-in-time compressible Euler-Poisson limit of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (VPB) system with soft potential for the whole range \gamma \in (-3, 0), as the Knudsen number tends to zero. By using the truncated Hilbert expansion, we first transform the original system to a remainder system. After choosing a new time-velocity weight and establishing some new inequalities of the nonlinear term, we obtain the low-velocity and high-velocity a priori estimates of solutions to the remainder system. Due to the effects of a self-consistent electric field which requires higher regularities than the Boltzmann equation, we then derive the extra weighted W1,\infty estimates to close the total energy. Finally, according to the classical L2--L\infty interplay mecha-nism of the system, we rigorously prove the validity of the global-in-time hydrodynamic limits of the VPB system in a soft potential case. Our results generalize those obtained by Guo and Jang [Comm. Math. Phys., 299 (2010), pp. 469--501], where the same system with a hard-sphere collision kernel was considered. Our results also reveal the effect of the soft potentials on the compressible Euler -Poisson limit of the VPB system: for the hard-sphere collision kernel case, the validity time interval is [0, \epsilon 1 2k -3 2 2k -2], k \geq 6, while for the soft potential case, it becomes [0, \epsilon -\gamma (2-\gamma )(1-\gamma ) ], \gamma \in (-3, 0).

The convergence is rigorouslyproved for time intervals on which the smooth solution of the Euler equations of the incompressiblefluid exists. The proof relies on the relative–entropy method.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct the global strong solution and justify the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson limit of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system. The proof is based on a new H-x,v(1) - W-x,v(1,infinity) framework, which consists of the H-x,v(1) energy estimate and the weighted W-x,v(1,infinity)-estimate of the remainder as well as the H-x,v(1) dissipation estimate on the macroscopic part of the remainder.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the exponential time decay of smooth solutions around a global Maxwellian to the non-linear Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck equations in the whole space by uniform-in-time energy estimates. The non-linear coupling of macroscopic part and Fokker–Planck operator in the model brings new difficulties for the energy estimates, which is resolved by adding tailored weighted-in-v energy estimates suitable for the Fokker–Planck operator.

Abstract:Diffusive limit of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system with cutoff soft potentials $-3<\gamma<0$ in the perturbative framework around global Maxwellian still remains open. By introducing a new weighted $H_{x,v}^2$-$W_{x,v}^{2, \infty}$ approach with time decay, we solve this problem for the full range of cutoff potentials $-3<\gamma\leq 1$. The core of this approach lies in the interplay between the velocity weighted $H_{x,v}^2$ energy estimate with time decay and the time-velocity weighted $W_{x,v}^{2,\infty}$ estimate with time decay for the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system, which leads to the uniform estimate with respect to the Knudsen number $\varepsilon\in (0,1]$ globally in time. As a result, global strong solution is constructed and incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson limit is rigorously justified for both hard and soft potentials. Meanwhile, this uniform estimate with respect to $\varepsilon\in (0,1]$ also yields optimal $L^2$ time decay rate and $L^\infty$ time decay rate for the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system and its incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson limit. This newly introduced weighted $H_{x,v}^2$-$W_{x,v}^{2, \infty}$ approach with time decay is flexible and robust, as it can deal with both optimal time decay problems and hydrodynamic limit problems in a unified framework for the Boltzmann equation as well as the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system for the full range of cutoff potentials. It is also expected to shed some light on the more challenging hydrodynamic limit of the Landau equation and the Vlasov-Poisson-Landau system.

Abstract:We propose a new stability analysis of the Vectorial Lattice-Boltzmann Method (VLBM). The VLBM is a variant of the LBM with extended stability features: it allows to handle compressible flows with shock waves, while the LBM is limited to low-Mach number regime. The stability analysis is based on the Legendre transform theory. We also propose a new tool: the equivalent system analysis, which we conjecture to contains both the stability and the consistency of the VLBM.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the asymptotic behaviors of solutions to the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes-Vlasov system in , where the initial fluid density is allowed to vanish. We establish the uniform bound of the macroscopic density associated with the distribution function and prove the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem with vacuum for either small initial energy or large viscosity coefficient. The uniform boundedness and the presence of vacuum enable us to show that as the time evolves, the fluid velocity decays, while the distribution function concentrates towards a Dirac measure in velocity centred at , with an exponential rate. In order to overcome the degeneracy in the momentum equations, we develop an energy argument based on higher order functional inequalities designed for fluid-particle coupled structures.

Nonlinear asymptotic stability of inhomogeneous steady solutions to boundary problems of Vlasov-Poisson equation

Abstract:We consider an ensemble of mass collisionless particles, which interact mutually either by an attraction of Newton's law of gravitation or by an electrostatic repulsion of Coulomb's law, under a background downward gravity in a horizontally-periodic 3D half-space, whose inflow distribution at the boundary is prescribed. We investigate a nonlinear asymptotic stability of its generic steady states in the dynamical kinetic PDE theory of the Vlasov-Poisson equations. We construct Lipschitz continuous space-inhomogeneous steady states and establish exponentially fast asymptotic stability of these steady states with respect to small perturbation in a weighted Sobolev topology. In this proof, we crucially use the Lipschitz continuity in the velocity of the steady states. Moreover, we establish well-posedness and regularity estimates for both steady and dynamic problems.
