Abstract:Millimeter-wave (mmWave) has advantage of sensitive see-through capacity, which enables a potential application in human body security. However, all the state-of-the-art solutions are based on a huge antenna array which is too cumbersome, i.e., difficult to move, repair, and also occupies a large amount of space. In addition, they are high-cost, high power consumption, which lead to narrow application scope. In this paper, we propose a new and more efficient detection system. We utilize a small radar sensor with a custom-designed algorithm to extract the spatial features of the detected objects, e.g., location and energy intensity. Then we establish the image of the energy intensity changing pattern along with time, and analyze the reflected energy from different materials on different people, so as to find the relationship between them. From which we can infer whether there are carried metal things with their position information on a target person. Based on the effectiveness of single metal detection, we continue to explore the possibility of detecting multi-person simultaneously. We implement the proposed solution on a small-size mmWave radar. We evaluate it thoroughly and provide more extensive experiments for its practicability.
