Abstract:Contralateral C7 transfer has been widely accepted in the treatment of brachial plexus avulsion injuries. To seek for an effective method of C7 severance which results in minimal sensory loss and provides maximal motor fibers, we observed the sensory change after selective C7 nerve transfer. Two procedures were employed in C7 transfer: total trunk severance and partial trunk severance in which the medial part of the anterior division of C7 was preserved. Sensory change of C7 territory was inspected from the first to the fourteenth postoperative days. Measurement of the area with sensory change and comparison between two groups revealed that selective C7 transfer resulted in less sensory loss and better match of C7 and the ulnar nerve.
