Abstract:The nanocrystalline HZSM-5 was synthesized by supercritical hydrothermal synthesis for the first time and investigated in catalytic esterification of pyromellitic dianhydride(PMD)and n-butanol to tetrabutyl pyromellitate(TBPM). The HZSM-5 prepared by conventional hydrothermal synthesis was also examined for comparison. The catalysts were studied using XRD, N-2 adsorption, NH3-TPD, Pyridine-adsorption FT-IR, SEM,([27]) Al MAS NMRandCHNS analysis. According to the results of characterization, the supercritical hydrothermal condition was helpful to reduce the size of crystal particles and improve the crystallinity of HZSM-5, and shorten the crystallization time. The surface area, especially external surface area, and pore volume were increased, and the total acidity was increased. The strong acid sites were transformed into the weak acid sites, and the strength of weak and strong acid was weakened. The amount of framework tetrahedral Al species and Bronsted acid sites were increased. Therefore, the formation of coke was retarded, and thePMD conversion, the TBPM selectivity and the catalytic stability were obviously improved.
Catalytic Esterification of Pentaerythritol over a Mesoporous Composite SnCl2@HZSM‐5 Catalyst

Abstract:Compared to SnCl2 and HZSM‐5, SnCl2@HZSM‐5 was a mesoporous composite, which had the most amount of total and weak acidity, and the weakest acid strength. More total acid content is beneficial to increase pentaerythritol conversion, and the weak acid can improve the selectivity of PETS, and weak acid strength is beneficial to inhibit the formation of carbon deposits. Therefore, SnCl2@HZSM‐5 showed the highest pentaerythritol conversion, PETS selectivity and catalytic stability. The mesoporous HZSM‐5 and SnCl2@HZSM‐5 mesoporous composite were prepared by two‐step crystallization and wet impregnation method, respectively. The catalytic esterification performances of SnCl2, HZSM‐5 and SnCl2@HZSM‐5 were compared. SnCl2@HZSM‐5 had the most amount of total and weak acidity, and the weakest acid strength. More total acid content was beneficial to increase pentaerythritol conversion, and the weak acid could improve the selectivity of PETS, and weak acid strength was beneficial to inhibit the formation of carbon deposits. Brönsted and Lewis acid sites were present simultaneously on the SnCl2@HZSM‐5 catalyst. Moreover, some extra Brönsted acid sites were created on the SnCl2@HZSM‐5 catalyst, because the interaction of SnCl2 with HZSM‐5 may result in the exchange of Sn2+ with protons. Both acid sites could catalyze the esterification reaction, and the Brönsted acid site was more beneficial to increasing PETS selectivity. Therefore, SnCl2@HZSM‐5 showed the highest pentaerythritol conversion, PETS selectivity and catalytic stability. The generation of coke and the leaching of Sn were the main cause of catalyst deactivation. Under the optimized process conditions: 105 °C, 4.7 molar ratio of stearic acid and pentaerythritol, 1.2 wt % catalyst amount and 2.5 wt % SnCl2 loading, after 3 h reaction time, the pentaerythritol conversion, PETS selectivity and yield was 99.3 %, 97.2 % and 96.5 %, respectively.

Abstract:A novel honeycomb-shaped PtSnNa/γ-Al2O3/cordierite monolithic catalyst (Pt 0.5%, Sn 0.9%, Na 1.0%, relative to Al2O3 weight) was developed and its catalytic performances in propane dehydrogenation were tested and compared with the classical granule catalyst with same Pt, Sn and Na contents under the conditions of 0.1MPa, 590°C,C3H8/H2 at 3/1 (molar ratio) and gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) at 155h−1. Interestingly, despite the generated coke amount and exposed Pt fraction, the honey comb-shaped structure of monolithic catalyst exerted important influences on its catalytic activities and led to the advanced catalytic performances over the granule catalyst.
Esterification and Transesterification on Al 2 O 3 -Doped Sulfated Tin Oxide Solid Acid Catalysts

Abstract:A series of Al2O3-doped (0.5%-3.0%, molar fraction) sulfated tin oxide catalysts were prepared by a co-precipitation method.The structures and textural properties of these catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS), Raman spectroscopy, and 27Al magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR).The number of acid sites on the catalysts was measured by the potentiometric titration of n-butylamine.Their catalytic performance for the esterification of lauric acid with methanol and the transesterification of triacetin with methanol was also investigated.The results showed that the addition of Al2O3 to sulfated tin oxide improved the catalytic activity markedly.The remarkable activities of the Al2O3-doped catalysts are caused by the larger number of acid sites.The SO24-/SnO2 catalyst doped with a 1.0% molar fraction of Al2O3 exhibited the highest activity.The lauric acid conversion was 92.7% after esterification for 6 h, and the triacetin conversion was 91.1% after transesterification for 8 h on this catalyst.

Abstract:Pd-based heterogeneous nanocatalysts have wide application in chemical industry. However, the traditional synthesis process contains multi-steps such as impregnation, dry, calcination and reduction. The pre-synthesis nanoparticles process can reduce the steps, but need to remove the surfactants, which are added in the synthesis process. In this work, a facile one-pot hydrothermal synthesis process named as single molecular precursor method was successfully developed to prepare Pd/Mg(OH)2 heterogeneous nanocatalysts with clean surface. The as-synthesized Pd/Mg(OH)2 heterogeneous nanocatalysts show excellent performance for CO direct esterification to dimethyl oxalate (DMO). The WTY (weight time yield) of DMO can reach the high-performance of 2544 g kgcat.−1 h−1, while the conversion of CO is 62.6% and selectivity to DMO is 90.8%. The single molecular precursor method developed by this work can be extended to other supported noble metal nanocatalysts.Graphic

Conversion of Organically Directed Selenidostannate into Porous SnO 2 Exhibiting Effective Electrochemical Reduction of CO 2 to C 1 Products

Abstract:Development of porous catalysts for electrochemical reduction of CO2 relies on methodological innovation in regard to both rational structure design and feasible preparation. Organically directed selenidometalates emerge as a type of promising crystalline precursors for their homogeneously distributed templates that can undergo precise thermolysis and volatilization. Herein, we report the facile thermally driven conversion of choline-templated selenidostannate, [(CH3)3N(CH2)2OH]2[Sn3Se7]·H2O (Ch-Sn3Se7), into a series of mesoporous SnO2 (P-SnO2) materials as high-performance electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. Variations of particle morphology/size and surface area with calcination time were systematically investigated and correlated to the electrocatalytic activity and product selectivity. The optimal electrode loaded with P-SnO2-0 min exhibits a high faradic efficiency (up to 94.5%), a large partial current density (∼11.5 mA cm–2), and excellent long-term stability (100 h) for transforming CO2 into useful C1 products (HCOOH + CO) at −1.06 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), comparable to the top-level Sn-based catalysts. A detailed investigation into the long-term electrolysis revealed a gradual fragmentation of the pristine SnO2 nanoparticles along with partial SnO2–SnO–Sn self-reduction, which contributes to increased active sites that account for the highly selective and stable electrolysis process. Abstract:Supported bimetallic palladium-tin catalyst on gamma-alumina (γ-Al2O3) (denoted as Pd–Sn(3.0)/γ-Al2O3; Pd = 5%wt and Pd/Sn molar ratio is 3.0) has been synthesized via the hydrothermal method at a temperature of 423 K for 24 h and reduced with H2 at 673 K for 3 h. The XRD patterns of the samples showed typical diffraction peaks of support γ-Al2O3, metallic Pd, Sn, and Pd–Sn alloy phases. Diffraction peaks of metallic Pd were observed at 2θ = 39.8°; 46.6°; and 68.0°, which can be attributed to the Pd(111), Pd(200), and Pd(220), respectively, while the diffraction peaks at 2θ = 39.8° and 41.0° can be attributed to Pd2Sn and Pd3Sn2, respectively, which may overlap with the Pd(111) species. The ammonia desorption and pyridine adsorption profiles showed Lewis and Brönsted acid sites. The specific surface area (SBET) of Pd–Sn(3.0)/γ-Al2O3 catalyst was 117.83 m2/g which is dominated by a micropore structure. The highest conversion of stearic acid was 99.1% with a yield of 1-octadecanol 43.2% was obtained at temperature 513 K, initial H2 pressure of 2.0 MPa, a reaction time of 13 h, and in 2-propanol/water (4.0:1.0 v/v) solvent.

Abstract:In this study, boehmite sols were used as aluminum precursors for preparing mesoporous alumina (MA) having crystalline framework walls in the presence of non-ionic surfactants as structure directing agents. Nitrogen physisorption showed that aluminas prepared in this way displayed very rich porosities with large mesopores, and both the pore volumes and the pore sizes increased with the surfactant concentration. The improved textural parameters in the samples should be attributed to the three-dimensional interconnected scaffold-like channels, which were formed by randomly ordered stacking and condensing of rigid boehmite nanoparticles with the aid of the surfactant. TEM observations revealed that the precursor morphology had an important effect on the textural properties of the mesoporous alumina. The sample with a corrugated platelet-like morphology exhibited a large surface area of 463 m2/g, which was reduced to 81 m2/g after calcination at 1200 °C, indicating a strong resistance to sintering. This material, with its improved textural properties, crystalline framework walls and high thermal stability, not only could increase the dispersion of the active catalytic species, but also could enhance the diffusion efficiency and mass transfer of reactant molecules when employed as catalyst supports. As examples, our MA samples demonstrated a remarkable enhancement in the catalytic performances for both reactions of SO2 catalytic reduction by CO and catalytic combustion of methane.

The effects of Sn/Nb molar ratios on the structure, the acidity and the catalytic performance of the catalyst were investigated by using X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, temperature- programmed desorption of NH3 and of EO. The phase composition of niobium species, the catalyst acidity, and the adsorption states and strength of EO were markedly influenced by the Sn/Nb molar ratios, leading to different EO conversion and MEG selectivity. MEG selectivity of 95.2 % was achieved at n(Sn)/n(Nb) = 0.8. The characterization of the used catalvst revealed that no obvious change was recorded, indicating the good hydrothermal stability of the catalyst.
Universal Mass Production of Biomass-Derived Nanosized Porous Carbon Spheres As a Superior Nonmetal Catalyst for Aerobic Oxidation of Hydrocarbons

Abstract:The microscopic quantum effect, spherical mor-phology, and fast mass transfer properties render nanosized porous carbon spheres (NPCSs, <100 nm) of great utilitarian value in numerous applications, including catalysis. However, the prepara-tion of monodisperse NPCSs was typically low output and high cost due to their large surface energy along with nanosized particles. In this study, we designed a high-yield hydrothermal carbonization process of soluble starch with the aid of poly-(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) to fabricate monodisperse carbonaceous spheres with a tunable nanosize of 43-97 nm. This synthesis still functioned well at starch concentrations as high as 520 g/L and in a 10-fold extended experiment with a yield of 49.1 g. The proposed methodology showed good versatility among various biomass-based carbon sources, including glucose, maltose, glucan, potato starch, barley starch, and corn starch. The subsequent static-air calcinations could facilely introduce rich mesoporosity onto nanosized carbonaceous spheres. N- Hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) covalently anchored on NPCSs were first prepared as heterogeneous catalysts by polyamidamine dendrimer-based quaternization and amidate modification with 4-carboxyl-NHPI. These dendrimeric NPCSs contributed to the high NHPI loading (6.09 mmol/g). The synergistic effects between the loaded NHPI and the quaternized dendrimer afforded 45% conversion and 72% selectivity in the catalytic oxidation of ethylbenzene into acetophenone at 95 degrees C under 1 atm O2 for 16 h, which was superior to the performance of unsupported NHPI. This anchored NHPI demonstrated good catalytic oxidation performance for various hydrocarbons and favorable reusability in a nine-run test. Their positively charged surface could prevent nanocatalyst agglomeration during the catalytic process. The nonmetal system, sustainable high-yield nanocarrier material, and high-loading active catalyst with good reusability are the advantages of the designed catalysis.

Abstract:Synergic regulation of microstructure, morphology and acidity of SAPO-34 molecular sieve is crucial to enhance its catalytic performance for methanol to olefins (MTO) reaction. Herein, a commercial oxygen-containing organosilane 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (AC-230) was developed as a new mesoporogen to synthesize pure SAPO-34 nanocrystallites together with diisopropylamine and seeds. According to the conditional experiments and systematic characterizations, it was disclosed that AC-230 not only changed the morphology and particle size of the SAPO-34 crystals but also affected its compositions and acidic properties. The addition of seed was indispensable to fasten the crystallization rate and hence assure the crystal growth inhibition function of AC-230. Thanks to the formed shortened diffusion pathway, moderate acid sites and pure CHA structure of the nanosized SAPO-34 product, the catalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance with a longer lifetime (395 min) and higher ethylene plus propylene selectivity (82.88%) in comparison to its conventional analogs (259 min and 80.63%).

Abstract:A hierarchical ZSM-11/5 composite zeolite with a high SiO2/Al2O3 ratio was successfully synthesized using a seed-induced method in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, 27Al NMR, 27Si NMR, N2 physical adsorption, and temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia, and studied in the frame of the methanol-to-olefins reaction. The results show that the amount of seed added plays a pivotal role in the formation of hierarchical ZSM-11/5 composite zeolite. With an increase in the amount of seed, the composite zeolite exhibits excellent catalytic performance in the methanol-to-olefins reaction, which can be attributed to the higher specific surface areas, higher external surface areas, more mesopore volumes, and more acid sites than ZSM-11 synthesized by the conventional method with tetrabutylammonium ions as a template. Contrary to the conventional point of view, the addition of too much seeds results in a dramatic decrease in the catalytic performance, which is ascribed to the higher proportion of ZSM-5 in the ZSM-11/5 composite zeolite.
Synergetic Regulation of the Microstructure and Acidity of HZSM-5/MCM-41 for Efficient Catalytic Cracking of n-Decane

Abstract:Alkane catalytic cracking is regarded as one of the most significant processes for light olefin production; however, it suffers from serve catalyst deactivation due to coke formation. Herein, HZSM-5/MCM-41 composites with different Si/Al2 ratios were first prepared by the hydrothermal method. The physicochemical properties of the prepared catalysts were analyzed by a series of bulk and surface characterization methods, and the catalytic performance was tested in n-decane catalytic cracking. It was found that HZSM-5/MCM-41 showed a higher selectivity to light olefins and a lower deactivation rate compared with the parent HZSM-5 due to an enhanced diffusion rate and decreased acid density. Moreover, the structure-reactivity relationship revealed that conversion, light olefin selectivity, and the deactivation rate strongly depended on the total acid density. Furthermore, HZSM-5/MCM-41 was further extruded with γ-Al2O3 to obtain the catalyst pellet, which showed an even higher selectivity to light olefins (∼48%) resulting from the synergy effect of the fast diffusion rate and passivation of external acid density.

Abstract:The SAPO-34/ZSM-5 composite catalyst (SZ-TS) was successfully fabricated using a two-step in situ crystallization method. X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption, and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption measurements were used to characterize the synthesized catalysts and evaluate their catalytic performances on methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction. The synthesis mechanism of two-step in situ crystallization was further investigated. Results showed that the SZ-TS synthesized by two-step in situ crystallization featured an intimately bonded composite structure owing to the synergistic effects of the interface. However, the physical mixture of SAPO-34 and ZSM-5 (SZ-PM) presented two discrete phase structures. By using the composite catalyst in MTO reaction, the SZ-TS exhibited the longest life of 1400 min, which was much higher than that of SZ-PM (720 min). Methanol conversion reached 97.3%, and the selectivity for light olefins totalled 93.0%. The excellent catalytic performance of SZ-TS was attributed to the hierarchical pore structure and suitably weak acid site distribution. Via pre-crystallization, alkalinity can be adjusted in the adjacent ranges of SAPO-34 and ZSM-5. By adding the pre-crystallized alkaline SAPO-34 slurry into the strong alkaline system of the parent ZSM-5 slurry, phase dissolution of SAPO-34 in the secondary crystallization solution was avoided. The external surface of SAPO-34 was etched in the alkaline environment of the secondary crystallization solution, resulting in hierarchical pore distribution, which benefited the MTO reaction. This in situ synthesis method features the advantages of simplicity, low time consumption, and low cost. Therefore, this approach possesses the potential to satisfy the demands of the MTO market.

Abstract:Ultrafine SnO2 nanocrystals are synthesized through a surfactant-assisted solvothermal route in water-ethanol mixed media. SnO2 photocatalysts with sizes of about 4, 8, and 12 nm are prepared through controllable annealing of the as-synthesized nanocrystals. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface areas of calcined SnO2 samples increase dramatically as their sizes decrease. Photocatalytic performances of the as-obtained catalysts for decomposing ppb-level (parts per billion) acetaldehyde are tested in a continuous glass-plate reactor. Result shows that SnO2 photocatalysts of about 4 nm with a large BET surface area of 130 m(2)g(-1) exhibit the best photocatalytic oxidation properties, which is comparable to that of Degussa P25 TiO2. Analysis by using the unimolecular Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction model indicates that the abilities of adsorption have well synergized with the photocatalytic reaction activities in the as-obtained SnO2 samples. This synergism finally enhances the photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared SnO2 photocatalysts.

Abstract:In this study, the bimetallic Ni-Zr MOF-derived nickel-zirconium oxide (Ni-Zr-O)-impregnated silicotungstic acid (HSiW) nanocomposite catalyst (HSiW@Ni-Zr-O) was prepared via a hydrothermal procedure followed by a pyrolysis treatment, and its structural, morphological, and surface components and oxidation states were characterized by using XRD, FTIR, TPD-NH3, SEM, TEM, N2 physisorption, and XPS analyses. Then, the nanocomposite catalysts were successfully applied to the esterification of oleic acid (OA) with methanol. According to its characteristics, the obtained HSiW@Ni-Zr-O-1 catalyst would generate larger pores, a higher acidity, and active interfaces at the calcining temperature of 300 °C. Therefore, HSiW@Ni-Zr-O-1 exhibits an excellent catalytic activity of 95.2% under optimal reaction conditions. Additionally, the catalyst can be reused with a good catalytic activity after nine cycles. This study highlights the opportunity of using bimetallic MOFs as precursors to the synthesis of highly nanoporous metal oxide, which supports the larger-industrial scale production of biofuels.

Abstract:Beta/ZSM-5 composite molecular sieves were successfully prepared by seeding method and characterized by XRD, FTIR, BET, NH3-TPD, Py-FTIR. The crystal structure and surface acidity of the samples can be adjusted by changing the crystallization time. Beta/ZSM-5 shows good catalytic performance for the rearrangement of propylene oxide. The results show that when the crystallization time is 24 h, the proportion of BEA type and MFI type structure in the sample reaches equal, and the amount of Lewis acid is 18.1 mmol/g, while that of B acid is only 6.48 mmol/g, which is more conducive to the rearrangement of epoxy propane to produce propionaldehyde.

Abstract:A coprecipitation method was developed for the synthesis of fibrous gamma-alumina using serial membrane dispersion microreactors with a circulating continuous phase and high concentrations of NaAlO2 and Al2(SO4)3 as reactants. Owing to the ultra-high mixing intensity and reduction of supersaturation due to the large circular phase ratio, a large pore volume and specific surface area and an extremely narrow pore diameter distribution were realized using the high-concentration and high-viscosity precipitation system. The influence of the phase ratio, dispersion order of reactants, Al2(SO4)3 residence time, and the precipitation reaction pH and time were investigated, and the nanofiber formation mechanism was explored employing theoretical calculations. By controlling the Al2(SO4)3 residence time of 3 s, phase ratio of 16, and pH of 8.0, gamma-Al2O3 nanofibers with a pore volume of 1.36 cm3/g, a specific surface area of 376 m2/g, and a length/diameter ratio in the range of 30-54 were obtained without any organic reagents. This study provides an economical and readily scalable method for the synthesis of fibrous gamma-Al2O3 with excellent pore properties and a large specific surface area, which can potentially be applied as an excellent catalyst support for diesel and bio-oil hydrogenation.
