Abstract:A novel 3D porous metal-organic framework with ID polarized channels was synthesized, and its adsorption properties for gas separation and chemical sensing were studied. The framework shows a preferential adsorption of CO2 over N-2 with a. selectivity of 22:1. It also exhibits a very good sensitivity to water with respect to most of the organic solvents in view of chemical sensing applications.

Abstract:MOF-based sensors capable of effectively and stably detecting toxic species in water have attracted huge attention in terms of improving environmental monitoring levels and water quality. Combining the flexibility of structure and modifying of pore surface, a multiwalled divider installation (MWDI) strategy is proposed and used for property enhancement. We herein report three metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) 1-3 based on a C3 symmetry organic phosphonic ligand with topology increased from 3,6-connected to 3,8-connected. Among them, MOFs 1 and 2 with remaining binding sites and large pores display lower luminescence response to Co2+ than does the applying standard. Guided by the MWDI strategy, 3 with high rigid framework and triple molecular installer divided rhombic pore was achieved under top-down topological analysis as anticipated, which endows high sensitivity and rapid response to Co2+, contributed by the synergy from free activated sites and appropriate pore and molecular dividing effect. Particularly, the high stability of 3 in boiling solvent and acid/base solutions has been evidenced and explained by structural robustness and kinetic inertness. Moreover, 3 shows excellent detection ability toward trinitrophenol (TNP) over other aromatic analytes in water, attributing to the predomination of energy transfers. Of note is that the used framework can be in situ regenerated into a fresh one. That provides a promising strategy to prepare effective and economic luminescent sensors in a predictable way for property modification.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional porous metal-organic framework, {[NH2(CH3)(2)][Zn(atz)(ox)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) (Hatz = 5-amino-1H-tetrazole, H(2)ox = oxalic acid), has been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 1 exhibits an anionic framework that can be simplified as a rarely reported 4-connected lon network. Complex 1 could be utilized as a platform for emission tuning by doping different lanthanide ions. In addition, gas adsorption studies reveal that 1 has a high isosteric heat of CO2 and good adsorption selectivity for CO2 over CH4 and N-2.

Abstract:An ethynyl-modified interpenetrated MOF material with lvt topology, [Cu2(BTEB)(NMF)2]·NMF·8H2O (compound 1, H4BTEB = 4,4',4'',4'''-(benzene-1,2,4,5-tetrayltetrakis(ethyne-2,1-diyl))tetrabenzoic acid, NMF = N-Methylformamide), was successfully synthesized by using an alkynyl-functionalized H4BTEB organic ligand under solvothermal conditions. Structural analysis shows that compound 1, consisting of a tetradentate carboxylic acid ligand and classical [Cu2(CO2)4] paddel-wheel structure building units, has a rare 4-connected lvt topology with dual interpenetrating structure, which can improve the framework stability, as well as the gas adsorption capacity and selectivity due to the restricted pore channel. According to the study of gas adsorption performance, compound 1 with a larger surface area, boasts a superior adsorption capacity for small gas molecules. Also, Ideal adsorption solution theory (IAST) computational simulation shows that compound 1 has good gas adsorption selectivity for C3H8/CH4, indicating its potential application in gas separation.

Abstract:Developing porous materials for purification of acetylene is of great significance, but remains challenging. Currently, the use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for gas adsorption separation has received substantial research interest. Herein, based on the tetracarboxylic acid ligand H4TPTA ([1,1':3′,1″-terphenyl]-4,4′,4″,6′-tetracarboxylic acid), two MOFs (ErTPTA and CdTPTA) constructed by trinuclear cluster secondly building units (SBUs) have been successfully synthesized. They are three dimensional (3D) framework with 1D rhomboid channels, demonstrating a (4,8)-connected scu network. A series of gas adsorption tests were performed and the both compounds exhibited outstanding gas selective adsorption performance. Accordingly, the ideal adsorption solution theory (IAST) is used to simulate the adsorption selectivity, the selectivity of CdTPTA for CO2/CH4 is 11.85 (0.5:0.5) and 17.02 (0.05:0.95), and for C2H2/CH4 is 11.81 (0.5:0.5); the selectivity of ErTPTA for C2H2/CO2 is 4.45 (0.5:0.5).

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a type of crystalline porous polymer composed of light elements through strong covalent bonds. COFs have attracted considerable attention due to their unique designable structures and excellent material properties. Currently, COFs have shown outstanding potential in various fields, including gas storage, pollutant removal, catalysis, adsorption, optoelectronics, and their research in the sensing field is also increasingly flourishing. In this review, we focus on COF-based sensors. Firstly, we elucidate the fundamental principles of COF-based sensors. Then, we present the primary application areas of COF-based sensors and their recent advancements, encompassing gas, ions, organic compounds, and biomolecules sensing. Finally, we discuss the future trends and challenges faced by COF-based sensors, outlining their promising prospects in the field of sensing. Owing to the advantages of high surface area, tenable polygonal porosity, predictable and stable structure, and precise chemical control, covalent organic frameworks offer numerous potential in addressing the crucial points for sensing application. Abstract:The new indium-based organic framework {(Me2NH2)[In(BDPO)]·DMF·2H2O}n (1) was successfully constructed by using the oxalamide group modified ligand N,N′-bis(isophthalic acid)oxalamide (H4BDPO). This framework presents a 2-fold interpenetrating structural characteristic, and the unique polar pore environment leads to a high capture ability for CO2, C2Hn and CH3OH and good separation ability for CO2 and C2Hn over CH4 as well as for CH3OH over C2H5OH, which was further verified by an ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) calculation. Theoretical simulations pointed out the possible adsorption sites of different adsorbed gases in 1. Abstract:A flexible metal-organic framework of 1a Cu(FMA)(4,4′-Bpe)0.5 (FMA=fumarate; 4,4′-Bpe=trans-bis-(4-pyridyl)ethylene) that exhibits guest molecule-controlled gate-opening adsorption has been reported, in which the flexible pores can be enlarged by CO2 molecules rather than CH4 and N2 under a certain gate-opening pressure. The CO2 uptake can be sharply improved from 6.85 cm3 g–1 at 0.60 atm to 33.7 cm3 g–1 at 1 atm due to the gate-opening effect, thus resulting in the notably enhanced adsorption selectivities for CO2/CH4 (32:1, v/v) and CO2/N2 (48:1, v/v) separations at room temperature.

However, MOFs with multifunctionality are still challenging. Under solvotherMal conditions, reactions of 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) and 4,4',4"-benzene-1,3,5-triyl-tribenzoic acid (H3BTB) with Cd(II) salt give rise to two novel MOFs [Cd-3(tib)(2)(BTB)(2)]center dot 3DEF center dot 4.5H(2)O (1) and [Cd-3(tib)(2)(BTB)(2)(DMA)(2)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2DMA center dot 8H(2)O (2) (DEF = N,N-diethylformamide, DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide) with three-dimensional framework structures. It is fascinating that 1 and 2 not only show unique selectivity for detection of acetone through fluorescence quenching mechanism but also exhibit selective adsorption of gas (CO2 over N-2 at 298 K) and dye (methyl orange) molecules.

Abstract:Two novel metal-organic frameworks, formulated as [Mn(CIP-)2] (1) and [Ag(CIP-)] (2) (HCIP = 4-(4-carboxylphenyl)-2,6-di(4-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)pyridine), were solvothermally synthesized based on a pyridyl-imidazole-carboxyl multifunctional ligand. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that complex 1 is a 3D microporous framework with uncoordinated imidazole groups, and complex 2 is a 2D + 2D → 2D 3-fold parallel interpenetrated network. Complex 1 exhibited excellent CO2 selective absorption over N2 and CH4. IAST calculations revealed that the selectivities of 1 for the CO2/CH4 (50 : 50) and CO2/N2 (15 : 85) mixtures were 8.0 and 117 at 273 K under 1 bar, respectively. Moreover, the luminescence investigations displayed that complex 2 is an excellent MOF-based multiresponsive fluorescent probe for Fe3+, CrO42-/Cr2O72- and the pesticide 2,6-Dich-4-nitroaniline, with high selectivity and sensitivity. Notably, complex 2 exhibited a highly sensitive sensing ability (5.2 × 104 M-1) and a low detection limit (1.7 × 10-7 M) for 2,6-Dich-4-nitroaniline. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Ag-MOF-based fluorescent sensor that can simultaneously detect metal ions, inorganic anions and pesticides.

Abstract:A 3D water-stable anionic metal-organic framework [Zn4(hpdia)2]·[NH2(CH3)2]·3DMF·4H2O (FJI-C4) was constructed based on an elaborate phosphorus-containing ligand 5,5'-(hydroxyphosphoryl)diisophthalic acid (H5hpdia). FJI-C4 with narrow one-dimensional (1D) pore channels exhibits high selectivity of C3H8/CH4 and C2H2/CH4. It is the first time for the MOF which contains phosphorus for selective separation of methane from natural gas and pyrolysis gas.

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are an emerging class of nano-crystalline polymers known for their outstanding chemical stability, exceptionally high surface area, and highly ordered structures, making them ideal candidates for gas capture applications. In particular, the two imine-linked FM-COFs possess a versatile, microporous architecture integrated with nitrogen-rich heteroatoms. These heteroatoms are evenly distributed throughout the structure, from the walls to the linkers, enhancing gas interaction and improving adsorption efficiency. Owing to these advantages, FM-COFs demonstrated a carbon dioxide capacity of 82.6 cm3 g−1 at 273 K and an iodine uptake of 3.98 g g−1 at 350 K. The synergistic effect of microporosity and heteroatom functionality makes these COFs highly effective for selective gas adsorption and radioactive iodine uptake.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional microporous metal–organic framework, Cu2(MFDI) (ZJU-60, H4MFDI = 5,5′-(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-diyl)diisophthalic acid), was solvothermally synthesized. ZJU-60 features a three-dimensional structure with a rare sty-a type topology and has two different types of pore apertures. With open metal sites and suitable pore spaces, ZJU-60 can readily separate methane in nearly pure form from CO2 and C2-hydrocarbon quaternary gas mixtures at room temperature with high separation capacity and moderate selectivity. The separation feasibility has been further established by simulated breakthrough and pulse chromatographic experiments.
