Abstract:Narrowband photomultiplication organic photodetectors (PM-OPDs) have been successfully fabricated with phosphorescent material FIrpic as an optical field adjusting layer and planar P3HT/PC71BM layers as a photomultiplication layer based on the charge injection narrowing (CIN) concept. The less PC71BM can penetrate into the top surface of the P3HT layer to form some isolated electron traps with PC71BM surrounded by P3HT. The PM-OPDs display two narrow response peaks at 650 and 360 nm with a rejection ratio (RR) of 4, the RR can be evaluated from the ratio of external quantum efficiency (EQE) at 650 nm to EQE at 360 nm. Phosphorescent material FIrpic was used as an optical field adjusting layer covered on a glass substrate to further narrow the spectral response range of PM-OPDs. The response at 360 nm of PM-OPDs can be markedly suppressed by employing the FIrpic layer. The PM-OPDs with or without the FIrpic layer display very similar EQE values at 650 nm under identical applied bias. Under the condition of a -30 V bias, PM-OPDs with a 900 nm thick FIrpic layer display an EQE of 11 000% at 650 nm along with an obviously enhanced RR of 2800 for EQE(650 nm)/EQE(360 nm). Linear dynamic range (LDR) of 125 dB and specific detectivity (D*) of 4.68 x 10(12) Jones are also achieved in PM-OPDs with the 900 nm thick FIrpic layer. In this work, a smart strategy was proposed to prepare narrowband PM-OPDs by employing phosphorescent material as an optical field adjusting layer.
