Abstract:Semimetal bismuth attracted extensive interests of researchers, owing to its merit of the surface particle resonance (SPR) and co-catalyst properties. In this paper, under the UV–vis Light irradiation, a series of Bi/Bi4O5Br2 composites were synthesized through a molecular precursor hydrolytic process. The Bi nanoparticles were performed by adding the glucose in this process. The as-prepared products were analyzed by several characterization methods. The photodegradation experiment was used to evaluate the photocatalytic activity, Bi4O5Br2-8% displayed superior photocatalytic performance of decomposition of organic boron, which was about 1.2 times as effective as Bi4O5Br2. Furthermore, the enhanced photo-induced carrier separation rate of Bi/Bi4O5Br2 was confirmed by the photocurrent and photoluminescence spectra (PL). The charge transfer characteristic between bismuth and Bi4O5Br2 has been considered as the origin for the promoted photo reactivity. This work affords a new reference for preparation composite photocatalyst that with multiple advantageous effect and powerful capability.

Abstract:The composite photocatalysts and solid solution photocatalysts have been shown to have improved photo catalytic performance, which caught researcher's eyes. In this paper, the polycomplex Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5/BiOCl0.5Br0.5 was formed by photo-reduction method. X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and SEM-mapping, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to confirm the structure, morphology and element information, surface valence states of Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5/BiOCl0.5Br0.5, respectively. Under ultraviolet visible and visible irradiation, the Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5/BiOCl0.5Br0.5 exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation acrylamide and bisphenol A and this is superior to that of BiOCl0.5Br0.5 and Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5. The PL spectra, photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance further confirmed the remarkable photocatalytic activity of Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5/BiOCl0.5Br0.5, the recycle experiment were conducted to reveal the stability and reusability. The trapping experiments and photocatalytic mechanism confirmed Ag-AgCl0.5Br0.5/BiOCl0.5Br0.5 with ultra-fast charge-separation efficiency and high redox ability. This work reveals an approach for the synthesis of multivariate composite solid solution photocatalysts and the degradation of oil field produced pollutant by this photocatalyst.
Enhanced Photoelectrocatalytic Activity of a Novel Bi2O3–BiPO4 Composite Electrode for the Degradation of Refractory Pollutants under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:A novel Bi2O3-BiPO4 composite electrode was successfully synthesized by the method of electrophoretic deposition, electrodeposition, and calcination in a proper sequence. The prepared electrodes were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and photocurrent decay curves measurement indicated that the Bi2O3-BiPO4 composite electrode exhibited better photoelectrochemical (PEC) activity than either pure Bi2O3 or BiPO4 electrode. Incident photon to current conversion efficiency (IPCE) and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) measurements revealed that the composite electrode significantly improved the efficiency of charge transfer and decreased the recombination of photogenerated charges. Furthermore, the composite electrode also displayed higher efficiency and stability in the PEC degradation of organic pollutants. The p-n junction structure of the Bi2O3-BiPO4 composite electrode was most likely responsible for the enhanced PEC activity.

Abstract:Composite photocatalysts typically display enhanced photocatalytic performance. In this paper, the polycomplex Ag-AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 was prepared by a photo-reduction approach. The identity of the composite was confirmed by several characterization methods including, the structure of sample was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, the morphology and element information of sample was investigated through scanning electron microscopy and SEM-mapping, the surface valence states of sample was confirmed by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Oilfield produced wastewater was chosen as the target in this study due to the toxicity and persistent nature of its components (pollutants such as, phenol and acrylamide). Ag-AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 exhibited superior photocatalytic activity than either Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 or Ag-AgI/AgCl, after irradiation with visible and UV light for 5 h. Under visible irradiation 5 h, the Ag-AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation phenol of 57.7%, which was about 4 times and 1.5 times higher than Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 and Ag-AgI/AgCl, respectively. Additionally, the Ag-AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 displayed photodegradation rates of 41.0% for acrylamide after 5 h UV-visible light irradiation, which was approximately 3.1 times and 1.6 times when treated with Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 and Ag-AgI/AgCl, respectively. The remarkable photocatalytic activity of AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 was further confirmed by the PL spectra, photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance. Furthermore, the stability and reusability were investigated by recycling experiments. In combination with the trapping experiments, the surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag-AgI/AgCl/Bi3O4Cl0.5Br0.5 reveals the catalyst has an ultra-fast chargeseparation efficiency and possesses a high redox ability. In this this paper, a new approach for the synthesis of quaternary composites is described and these photocatalysts have been shown to efficiently degrade of oil field pollutants. Abstract:Composite photocatalysts have been shown to have improved photocatalytic performance, as such the composite, Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /BiOBr was synthesized by controlling the mole ratio of Bi(NO 3 ) 3 ·5H 2 O and KBr. The identity of the composite was confirmed by several characterization methods, such as X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Oilfield produced wastewater was chosen as the target in this study, due to the toxicity and persistent nature of pollutants [such as, phenol and bisphenol A (BPA)] in this wastewater. Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /BiOBr displays excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation phenol and bisphenol A and this is superior to that of Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 and BiOBr. PL, photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance further confirmed the excellent photocatalytic activity of Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /BiOBr, and cyclic experiments were conducted to reveal the stability and reusability. The mechanism for the degradation of phenol and bisphenol A was proposed after conducting trapping experiments with Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /BiOBr. This paper reveals a new approach for the preparation of the Bi 4 O 5 Br 2 /BiOBr composite and the degradation of oilfield produced wastewater by this photocatalyst.

Abstract:In this study, a dual Z-scheme heterojunction system of Ag 3 PO 4 /Bi 2 Zr 2 O 7 /MoS 2 was constructed based on the good bandgap alignment among Bi 2 Zr 2 O 7 , Ag 3 PO 4 , and MoS 2 . The photocatalytic performance of the composite catalyst was investigated by degrading Pyrene (Pyr) and Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP). The results revealed that the composite catalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and stability, showing efficient degradation of Pyr and BaP. The research findings indicate that the presence of the dual Z-scheme heterojunction facilitates the rapid separation and transfer of photogenerated electrons and holes within the composite catalyst. This effectively preserves the photogenerated holes with high oxidative capability in valence band of Ag 3 PO 4 and Bi 2 Zr 2 O 7 , thereby enhancing the catalytic activity of the catalyst.

Abstract:In this work, the Bi2WO6 photocatalyst is first modified by sodium bentonite (SB) to give the SB/Bi2WO6 composite photocatalyst, prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. The compounds were characterized through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of the catalyst was evaluated by the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation and bisphenol A under ultraviolet light irradiation, the SB/Bi2WO6 exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity compared to Bi2WO6. The remarkable photocatalytic activity of SB/Bi2WO6 was further confirmed by the photoluminescence spectra and photocurrent response. Furthermore, the recycling experiments confirmed the stability and reusability. The trapping experiments and the electron paramagnetic resonance spin-trap experiments measured the photocatalytic mechanism of SB/Bi2WO6 highlighting the main active species during the photocatalytic degradation of the pollutants. This paper offers a new approach for selecting carrier modified photocatalysts, and shows the degradation of oil field pollutants using this photocatalyst.

Abstract:In this study, we synthesize an Al2O3/BiPO4 heterojunction via a straightforward in-situ coprecipitation technique. An examination of the catalyst specimen reveals that Al2O3 nanoparticles are uniformly distributed on the surface of the hexagonal BiPO4, achieved through the formation of sturdy chemical bonds. This process leads to the creation of an Al2O3/BiPO4 heterojunction with an elevated concentration of oxygen vacancies. This, in turn, contributes to a notable decrease in the photocatalyst's energy band gap while enhancing the absorption spectrum for visible light. Additionally, the Al2O3/BiPO4 complex showcases a unique internal electric field, giving rise to a direct Z-type heterostructure. This heterostructure can drive the selective migration of photogenerated electrons and holes, achieve effective separation of photogenerated charges under the synergistic effect of oxygen vacancies, and maintain the strong redox abilities of BiPO4 and Al2O3. Consequently, there has been a marked improvement in the efficiency of photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in dyes.

Abstract:A series of BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalysts with heterostructures was successfully synthetized through a facile hydrothermal method. Attributed to the heterostructure between BiOI and Bi5O7I, photogenerated electrons and holes can be separated efficiently. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared samples was evaluated through the MO degradation reaction. The removal rate of MO was up to 93% after 40 min under visible light (lambda >= 400 nm) irradiation, while the photocatalytic activity showed no decay after 3 cycles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic mechanism of MO degradation over the BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalyst was investigated by taking TA, H2O2 and EDTA as probes. The experimental results indicate that the enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the synergistic effect of photogenerated holes and superoxide radicals. The excellent activity and photostability reveal that the BiOI/Bi5O7I composite photocatalyst is a promising visible-light-response photocatalyst with potential applications in the field of water treatment.

Abstract:The rational construction of heterostructures plays a pivotal role in enhancing both the separation of photogenerated carriers in semiconductors and the photocatalytic activity. This paper successfully constructs a novel BiPO 4 @ZnWO 4 p-n type heterojunction photocatalyst by hydrothermal and ultrasonic stirring methods. The BiPO 4 @ZnWO 4 heterojunction exhibits outstanding photocatalytic performance, achieving a degradation efficiency of 99% for rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light illumination in just 40 min. Furthermore, its photocatalytic reaction rate constant is 3.9 and 96.51 times higher than that of pure ZnWO 4 and BiPO 4 , respectively. Electrochemical characterization demonstrates a more robust photocurrent response and lower resistance in the composite sample, facilitating efficient transport of photogenerated carriers. In addition, the 20% BiPO 4 @ZnWO 4 heterojunction also exhibits desirable photodegradation stability, maintaining a RhB removal rate above 80% even after 5 cycles. Within the context of the photocatalytic reaction system, the superoxide radical (·O 2 − ) plays a key role, succeeded by the hydroxyl radical (·OH) and the photoinduced hole (h + ). This paper provides a feasible p-n type heterojunction photocatalyst for the treatment of dyeing wastewater.

Abstract:Enhancing the photocatalytic performance for contaminant degradation to accelerate the large-scale application of photocatalysis still is an enduring challenge. Herein, ternary PDI/BiOCl-BiPO4 composited materials with the different contents of PDI were designed and constructed by the multi-step compound method. The tetracycline hydrochloride and rhodamine B were chosen as targeted pollutants to investigate the photocatalytic performance of PDI/BiOCl-BiPO4 composited materials. The structure and component of BiOCl-BiPO4 and PDI/BiOCl-BiPO4 samples were detailedly characterized by a sequence of physical and chemical characterizations. The optimized PDI/BiOCl-BiPO4 sample, namely PDI(5%)/BiOCl-BiPO4, exhibited the excellent photocatalytic activity for tetracycline hydrochloride and rhodamine B degradation. The major active species that were holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (•O2−) also can be determined in the photocatalytic degradation process by active species trapping experiments. Furthermore, the photoelectrochemical and fluorescence measurements manifest the crucial role of PDI material. It can reduce the recombination of photo-excited charge carrier and improve the separation and transfer of photo-generated electron-hole pairs, which is beneficial to the photocatalytic reaction process. It is anticipated that our work would provide a counterpart to prepare the high-efficiency composited material in heterogeneous photocatalysis.

Broad Spectral Response FeOOH/BiO2−x Photocatalyst with Efficient Charge Transfer for Enhanced Photo-Fenton Synergistic Catalytic Activity

Abstract:In this work, to promote the separation of photogenerated carriers, prevent the catalyst from photo-corrosion, and improve the photo-Fenton synergistic degradation of organic pollutants, the coating structure of FeOOH/BiO2−x rich in oxygen vacancies was successfully synthesized by a facile and environmentally friendly two-step process of hydrothermal and chemical deposition. Through a series of degradation activity tests of synthesized materials under different conditions, it was found that FeOOH/BiO2−x demonstrated outstanding organic pollutant degradation activity under visible and near-infrared light when hydrogen peroxide was added. After 90 min of reaction under photo-Fenton conditions, the degradation rate of Methylene Blue by FeOOH/BiO2−x was 87.4%, significantly higher than the degradation efficiency under photocatalysis (60.3%) and Fenton (49.0%) conditions. The apparent rate constants of FeOOH/BiO2−x under photo-Fenton conditions were 2.33 times and 3.32 times higher than photocatalysis and Fenton catalysis, respectively. The amorphous FeOOH was tightly coated on the layered BiO2−x, which significantly increased the specific surface area and the number of active sites of the composites, and facilitated the improvement of the separation efficiency of the photogenerated carriers and the prevention of photo-corrosion of BiO2−x. The analysis of the mechanism of photo-Fenton synergistic degradation clarified that ·OH, h+, and ·O2− are the main active substances involved in the degradation of pollutants. The optimal degradation conditions were the addition of the FeOOH/BiO2−x composite catalyst loaded with 20% Fe at a concentration of 0.5 g/L, the addition of hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 8 mM, and an initial pH of 4. This outstanding catalytic system offers a fresh approach to the creation and processing of iron-based photo-Fenton catalysts by quickly and efficiently degrading various organic contaminants.

Abstract:BiOBr nanoflakes-decorated BiPO4 (BiOBr/BiPO4) composite photocatalysts were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. The BiOBr nanoflakes were tightly dispersed on the surface of the BiPO4 and formed p-n heterojunctions between BiOBr and BiPO4, as evidenced by characterization of the structure and composition. The p-n heterojunctions BiOBr/BiPO4 composites could greatly improve photocatalytic activity, and the 60 wt% BiOBr/BiPO4 composite showed the highest degrade rate for methylene blue (MB), which was eight times and two times than that of pure BiPO4 and BiOBr, meanwhile, the BiOBr/BiPO4 composite also exhibited superior activities for phenol degradation under visible light. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the enhancement of visible-light absorption efficiency as well as the formation of p-n heterojunctions in BiOBr/BiPO4, which could greatly accelerate the separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers. In addition, the roles of the radical species were investigated, and the O-2(-) and h(+) were thought to dominate the photocatalytic process. Abstract:A series of binary composites Bi4O5Br2/BiPO4 (PBX) was fabricated through a simple mechanical ball milling protocol. Relevant microstructural, morphological, and optical properties were thoroughly analyzed via various techniques. The integration of both components was confirmed to produce heterojunction domains at the phase boundaries. Upon exposure to visible light irradiation, the as-achieved PBX series possessed the reinforced photocatalytic NOx removal efficiencies and the weakened generation of toxic intermediate NO2 in comparison to both bare components, chiefly attributed to the efficient transport and separation of carriers and boosted production of superoxide radicals (·O2−) through the combination of a wide-bandgap ornament BiPO4 as an electron acceptor. In particular, the composite PB5 with the optimal phase composition exhibited the highest NOx removal of 40% with the lowest NO2 formation of 40 ppb among all tested candidates. According to the band structures' estimation and reactive species' detection, a reasonable mechanism was ultimately proposed to describe the migration of charge carriers and the enhancement of photocatalytic performance.

Abstract:Ag3PO4 has good potential for use in photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants. However, the activity and stability of Ag3PO4 is hard to sustain because of photocorrosion and the positive potential of the conduction band of Ag3PO4. In this study, A composite consisting of Bi2WO6 nanosheets and Ag3PO4 was developed to curb recombination of charge carriers and enhance the activity and stability of the catalyst. Formation of a Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6 composite was confirmed using X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Photoluminescence spectroscopy provided convincing evidence that compositing Bi2WO6 with Ag3PO4 effectively reduced photocorrosion of Ag3PO4. The Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6 composite gave a high photocatalytic performance in photodegradation of methylene blue. A degradation rate of 0.61 min−1 was achieved; this is 1.3 and 6.0 times higher than those achieved using Ag3PO4 (0.47 min−1) and Bi2WO6 (0.10 min−1), respectively. Reactive species trapping experiments using the Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6 composite showed that holes, ·OH, and ·O2− all played specific roles in the photodegradation process. The photocatalytic mechanism was investigated and a Z-scheme was proposed as a plausible mechanism.
