Abstract:Epoxy resin serves as a critical insulating component in ultra-high voltage (UHV) dry direct current (DC) bushings. However, the accumulation of space charges within the epoxy resin, a byproduct of charge mobility, poses a significant risk to the bushing's reliability and operational safety. Traditional space charge attenuation models, especially after voltage removal, are of limited use in simulations aimed at understanding this phenomenon. This study introduces an improved model that integrates the bipolar charge transport mechanism with an approach to space charge decay, drawing upon both the hopping conduction mechanism and Schottky's principle. We establish a theoretical framework for predicting space charge behavior post voltage elimination and develop a simulation to investigate the decay process within the epoxy's internal structure. Utilizing the Pulsed Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method, we measure the residual charges post-voltage withdrawal. These experimental data validate our model's precision and the underlying theoretical assumptions. Our findings indicate that The negative charge remaining after voltage removal is not enhanced with the field enhancement. Additionally, the anodic positive charge and cathodic positive charge are distributed in two-segment discontinuous traps, while the negative charge is distributed in one-segment traps. The model identifies two distinct trapping sites for anodic and cathodic positive charges, with a single site for negative charges. The congruence between our simulation predictions and experimental data corroborates the efficacy of our model in accurately simulating space charge decay in epoxy materials post-voltage removal.
