Abstract:Objective In order to study the prevalence and clinical characteristics of pruritus in patients with psoriasis.Methods A questionnaire was sent out to 112 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis,to assess clinical characteristics of pruritus in patients with psoriasis.Results Out of 112 patients,83％ patients suffered from different degrees of itching.The presence of pruritus depend on age,as well as it was observed during the extension of psoriatic lesions and independent of sex,duration of disease,family history of psoriasis,alcohol,smoking habits or body mass index (BMI).Correlation analysis showed that there was positive correlation between the intensity of pruritus and the mean psoriasis area,the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) score and the infiltration of the lesions.Conclusion Pruritus is a common feature in psoriasis.Patients which are older,in progressive stage,more psoriasis area,higher PASI score and more infiltration of the lesions may suffered from more intensity of pruritus.

Abstract:Itching is a leading symptom of eczema or dermatitis and has a great impact on patients' lives. Previous studies on itching have focused mostly on atopic dermatitis (AD). A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted among outpatients with eczema from 39 tertiary hospitals in mainland China from July 1 to September 30, 2014. This work elaborates on itching in different types of eczema. Itching was very common (97%, 8499/8758) in outpatients with eczema. The severity of the itch increased with age and disease duration (P < 0.001). The top three subtypes of dermatitis with severe itching were atopic dermatitis (30.4%), widespread eczema (30.1%), and asteatotic eczema (27.9%). Widespread eczema refers to the involvement of more than three body parts, without clinical features of other specific types of eczema. The proportion of outpatients without itching was highest in hand eczema (6.8%). Positive correlations were observed between the severity of itching and the proportions of different diseases based on trend tests, including atopic dermatitis (P < 0.001), widespread eczema (P < 0.001), asteatotic eczema (P < 0.001), and autosensitization dermatitis (P < 0.001). Eczema outpatients with older age, longer disease duration, and, especially, a history of allergic diseases might be more prone to itching.

Abstract:Objective To describe epidemiological characteristics of scalp psoriasis in China,and to determine its influencing factors through a hospital-based,multicenter and large-scale survey.Methods An epidemiological survey was conducted on patients with scalp psoriasis in 42 hospitals in 11 provinces and 4 municipalities.A questionnaire was designed to collect general and clinical information of patients,including clinical type,lesion distribution,psoriasis scalp severity index (PSSI),aggravating factors,influence on quality of life,treatment course,degree of satisfaction with treatment,etc.Participants were asked to fill out the questionnaire with the help of well-trained dermatologists.Data were processed with the EpiData software.The WPS system and Epi Info 5.0 statistics software were used for descriptive analysis of the data.Results Totally,3 901 patients participated this study,and 3 586 valid questionaires were obtained.The mean age at onset of scalp lesions was (27.40 ± 13.34) years,and the male to female ratio was 1.6∶1 with a mean PSSI score of 13.61 ± 12.31.The hairline of the forehead was the most frequently affected area with the constituent ratio of forehead psoriasis being 74.3％ (2 663/3 586).The duration of scalp psoriasis reached 3 to 6 months every year in 1 136 (31.7％) patients,and the area affected by scalp psoriasis was less than 25％ of the total surface area of the scalp in 1 649 (46％) patients.The most frequent clinical presentation was scaling (92.1％),followed by erythema (80.6％),itching(76.7％),bunchy hairs (39.9％) and hair loss(18.0％).Disease aggravation was most frequently associated with seasons (76.7％),emotions (47.4％),stress (47.1％) and fatigue (46.6％).The quality of life (especially social,outdoor and entertainment activities) was reported to be negatively influenced by this entity to different degrees in 2 529 (70.5％) patients.Of these patients,583 (17.8％) received combination therapy (topical and systemic),with glucocorticoid ointment (27.5％),calcipotriol scalp solution (22.7％) and glucocorticoid-containing solution (11.9％) being the most commonly used topical drugs; only 38.6％ complied with medication requirements and doctors' advice for 3 to 5 weeks,and 35.2％ believed that the primary reason for poor compliance was unsatisfactory response to drugs.It was considered that an ideal drug for the treatment of scalp psoriasis should be highly effective (50.3％),safe (17.8％) and easy to apply (11％) with a rapid onset of action(11.9％).Conclusions Scalp psoriasis has a predilection for the hairline of the forehead with scaling as the main clinical presentation.Winter and spring seasons appear to be the most common aggravating factor of scalp psoriasis.The quality of life is negatively influenced to different degrees in many patients with scalp psoriasis.Topical corticosteroids plus non-hormonal drugs should be the first choice for the treatment of scalp psoriasis.Patients consider that the ideal drugs for the treatment of scalp psoriasis should be effective,safe,and easy to apply.
Health Utility and Its Affacting Factors for Patients with Psoriasis in China

Abstract:To assess health utilities and examine factors affecting health utilities among patients with moderate to severe psoriasis in China. Data were obtained from a cross-sectional HRQoL survey of psoriasis patients in 29 tertiary hospitals of 7 cities in China from June to July, 2012. Eligible patients were assessed with moderate to severe psoriasis by physicians and treated with prescriptions during the visit/hospitalization. Degree of moderate and severe was estimated by physicians based on definition of BSA score 3-10% and >10%. Participants completed HRQoL measures of EuroQol 5 domains (EQ-5D), Short Form 6 domains (SF-6D) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Socio-demographic and treatment satisfaction information were also collected from the participants. Mean scores were compared and stepwise multivariate linear regression was conducted to assess factors associated with health utilities. A total of 150 patients were included with 50% female, mean age of 43.87 years and mean disease duration of 5.19 years. About 22.67% patients reported having at least one comorbidity with anxiety/depression (14.00%) and related infection (10.00%) listed on the top. 36.67% patients expressed dissatisfaction with their current treatment. Mean EQ-5D, EQ-VAS, SF-6D and DLQI scores were 0.64, 63.23, 0.72 and 11.09, respectively, with significant difference between the severe and moderate group in all measures(0.50 vs. 0.77, 58.12 vs. 67.48, 0.67 vs.0.75, 14.43 vs. 8.33, all p<0.001). Regression analysis indicated that health severity indicated by DLQI score was significantly associated with value scores of EQ-5D, EQ-VAS, SF-6D. Sleeplessness and living in Tier 1st city decreased EQ-5D and SF-6D scores and treatment dissatisfaction had the negative impact on EQ-VAS and SF-6D scores with statistic significant. Compared with moderate patients, patients with severe psoriasis have poorer health utilities. Increasing the patients’ satisfaction with their treatment and controlling insomnia may raise their health utilities effectively.

Abstract:Introduction: Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, is believed to be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Despite this understanding, the clinical epidemiological status of psoriasis patients with a family history of the disease remains uncertain. Methods: In this study, we participated in a multicenter observational epidemiological study involved over 1,000 hospitals and enrolled a total of 5,927 psoriasis patients. These patients were categorized into two groups based on the presence or absence of a family history of psoriasis: family history cases (896) and sporadic cases (5,031). The clinical manifestations of these two groups were analyzed through clinical classification, comorbidities, treatment response, and other relevant factors. Results: The findings of our study indicate that individuals with a family history of psoriasis predisposition exhibit a notably elevated prevalence of psoriatic arthritis compared to those with sporadic occurrences. Moreover, patients with a family history of psoriasis display a more rapid and efficacious response to secukinumab. Additionally, individuals with moderate to severe psoriasis are at a heightened risk of developing cardiovascular and liver diseases in comparison to those with mild psoriasis, with no discernible impact of familial history on the likelihood of comorbidities. Discussion: Our study identified the clinical characteristics of individuals with a familial predisposition to psoriasis, offering novel insights into the management and therapeutic approaches for patients with this condition.

Abstract:DNA Flow Cytometric measurements (DNA-FCM) were performed on both anagen hair bulbs of 21 healthy volunteers (11 females, 10 males; aged between 18 and 21 years) and tufts of plucked hairs from 43 test persons (17 showing normal trichograms, 12 with telogen and 14 with dystrophic hair root pattern; aged between 19 and 49), subsequently submitted to routine trichogram investigation. The high proliferative activity of anagen hair bulb cells was accurately registered by FCM. Neither sex nor hair color nor hair length were found to influence the proliferative parameters. The degree of hair loss-as diagnosed on account of the trichogram-was also reflected by the DNA histograms; telogen and dystrophic hair root patterns, however, could not be discerned by FCM.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by chronic recurrent dermatitis with profound itching. Most patients have personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. Several criteria have been proposed for the diagnosis of AD. Although the clinical features of childhood AD have been widely studied, there has been less large-scale study on adult/adolescent AD. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features of adult/adolescent patients with chronic symmetrical eczema/AD and to propose Chinese diagnostic criteria for adult/adolescent AD.METHODS:A hospital-based study was performed. Forty-two dermatological centers participated in this study. Adult and adolescent patients (12 years and over) with chronic symmetrical eczema or AD were included in this study. Questionnaires were completed by both patients and investigators. The valid questionnaires were analyzed using EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 17.0 software.RESULTS:A total of 2662 valid questionnaires were collected (1369 male and 1293 female). Of all 2662 patients, 2062 (77.5%) patients had the disease after 12 years old, while only 600 (22.5%) patients had the disease before 12 years old, suggesting late-onset eczema/AD is common. Two thousand one hundred and thirty-nine (80.4%) patients had the disease for more than 6 months. One thousand one hundred and forty-four (43.0%) patients had a personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. One thousand five hundred and forty-eight (58.2%) patients had an elevated total serum IgE and/or eosinophilia and/or positive allergen-specific IgE. Based on these clinical and laboratory features, we proposed Chinese criteria for adult/adolescent AD. Of all 2662 patients, 60.3% were satisfied with our criteria, while only 48.2% satisfied with Hanifin Rajka criteria and 32.7% satisfied with Williams criteria, suggesting a good sensitivity of our criteria in adult/adolescent AD patients.CONCLUSION:Late-onset of eczema or AD is common. The clinical manifestations of AD are heterogeneous. We have proposed Chinese diagnostic criteria for adolescent and adult AD, which are simple and sensitive for diagnosis of adult/adolescent AD.

Abstract:Objective. Through the analysis of the morphological distribution of psoriasis lesions, we can study the relationship between psoriasis lesions and age, gender, and course of disease and dialectically look at the location of lesion morphology and the impact of course of disease on it, so as to provide more basis for the treatment of psoriasis. Method. Through a questionnaire survey of 512 patients in the dermatology clinic of a well-known traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Jiangsu Province, their symptoms met the diagnostic criteria of psoriasis in Chinese clinical dermatology. The current situation of psoriasis was analyzed by literature analysis, and the collected data were analyzed by general mean analysis, analysis of variance, and descriptive analysis. Result. There were some differences in the proportion of male to female in 512 patients. It is possible to conclude that male incidence rate is higher than that of women. It can be deduced from bad habits such as heavy drinking and smoking in male life. Bad habits can reduce male immunity and cause disease. The distribution of skin lesions in different parts shows that the skin is more affected by the outside world, which leads to the repeated attack of psoriasis. The incidence of chest, scalp, and upper arm is also relatively high. There have been similar demonstrations in relevant medical data, which may be related to the vascular density in them. Some substances that induce psoriasis in the dense blood vessels are easy to accumulate here, leading to the pathogenic bacteria to induce the onset of psoriasis. Conclusion. By studying the distribution of psoriasis lesions and the correlation between lesions, gender, and disease course, we can improve the dialectical treatment of psoriasis, which has reference significance, and provide a new thinking direction for the treatment system theory of psoriasis.

Abstract:Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease leading to psychological impacts and impairment on quality of life for patients. This study aims to investigate the psychological impact, quality of life (QoL) and economic burden of psoriasis in China. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in adult psoriasis patients in China from July to September 2018. Patients who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited through the online-platform of psoriasis patient mutual assistance network, and filled the online questionnaire about the psychosocial impacts, direct and indirect cost in the past year. Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scale was used to assess the quality of life relating to psoriasis. Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted and analyses was stratified by DLQI level with comparisons made using the suitable tests. A total of 497 psoriasis patients were recruited in this study covering 8 geographic regions across China. The annual total expenditure of patients due to psoriasis accounted for 29.7±28.4% (Mean±SD) of the income. The annual hospitalization rate was 21.3% and length of stay was 37.0 ±44.3 days . The annual sick leave was 46.1 ±85.4 days and the unemployment rate was 37.0%. 89.1% of patients reported psychological stress . Alarmingly, 34.0% patients had suicide intention and 4.6% had suicide behavior in the past year. The average DLQI score was 13.3±7.1. 61.8% of the patients reported a severe or extremely severe impact of psoriasis on QoL (DLQI>10) and 38.2% patients reported mild or moderate impact on QoL (DLQI≤10). Comparing to the patients with DLQI≤10, patient group with DLQI>10 presented significant higher (P<0.01) disease burden for most variables. Psoriasis impose heavy economic burden, psychological morbidity and large impairment on quality of life for psoriasis patient in China. At the meanwhile, the patient with DLQI>10 have significant higher burden of psoriasis.

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the reliability, validity and sensitivity of the Chinese version of pruritus-specific quality of life instrument (ItchyQoL) .Methods:Based on the English version of ItchyQoL, items of the Chinese version of ItchyQoL were determined after forward-backward translation and cultural adaption. Totally, 218 patients with pruritus caused by skin diseases were enrolled from Department of Dermatology, Peking University First Hospital from January to December 2019, and a questionnaire survey was conducted. At the time of enrollment and 2 weeks after enrollment, the Chinese version of ItchyQoL, dermatology life quality index (DLQI) and numerical rating scale (NRS) were used to evaluate the effect of pruritus on the quality of life of patients. Confirmatory factor was used to assess the structural validity of the Chinese version of ItchyQoL, and Cronbach′s α coefficient was used to estimate its internal consistency reliability. Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analyze correlations (convergent validity) of the Chinese version of ItchyQoL score with DLQI and NRS scores, and correlations (sensitivity) of changes in the Chinese version of ItchyQoL score with changes in DLQI and NRS scores.Results:The Chinese version of ItchyQoL contained a total of 22 items, including 3 dimensions, i.e., "symptoms", "functions" and "emotions", with the Cronbach′s α coefficients being 0.946, 0.883 and 0.953 respectively, suggesting excellent internal consistency. At 2 weeks after enrollment, the NRS score was strongly correlated with the total ItchyQoL score ( rs = 0.700, P < 0.01) , and moderately correlated with the subscores of "emotions", "functions" and "symptoms" ( rs = 0.452, 0.673, 0.692 respectively, all P < 0.01) ; the DLQI score was also strongly correlated with the total ItchyQoL score ( rs = 0.887, P < 0.01) and the subscores of "functions" and "symptoms" ( rs = 0.886, 0.750 respectively, both P < 0.01) , and moderately correlated with the "emotions" subscore ( rs = 0.674, P < 0.01) . Compared with the scores at the time of enrollment, the change in the total ItchyQoL score after 2 weeks was moderately correlated with the change in the NRS score ( rs = 0.642, P < 0.01) , and strongly correlated with the change in the DLQI score ( rs = 0.757, P < 0.01) ; the changes in "symptoms" and "functions" subscores were moderately correlated with the change in the NRS score ( rs = 0.648, 0.549 respectively, both P < 0.01) , while there was a weak correlation between the changes in "emotions" subscore and NRS score ( rs = 0.225, P < 0.01) ; the changes in "symptoms" and "functions" subscores were strongly correlated with the change in the DLQI score ( rs = 0.755, 0.703 respectively, both P < 0.01) , while the change in "emotions" subscore was moderately correlated with the change in the DLQI score ( rs = 0.401, P < 0.01) . Moreover, the total score of the Chinese version of ItchyQoL and subscores of "symptoms", "functions" and "emotions" all significantly differed among different NRS and DLQI score groups at 2 weeks after enrollment (all P < 0.05) . Conclusion:The Chinese version of ItchyQoL has good reliability and validity, and can be used to evaluate the quality of life of patients with pruritus caused by skin diseases in China.
Characteristics of Pruritus in Various Clinical Variants of Psoriasis: Results of the Multinational, Multicenter, Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease present in about 3% of the world’s population. The clinical symptoms manifest diversely, therefore one can distinguish several subtypes of psoriasis. The majority of patients with psoriasis experience pruritus, which is an unpleasant sensation that decreases patients’ quality of life. The knowledge on pruritus in different subtypes of psoriasis is limited. We have performed a cross-sectional, prospective, and multicenter study to evaluate the relationship between clinical subtypes of psoriasis (large-plaque, nummular, guttate, palmoplantar, inverse, erythrodermic, palmoplantar pustular, generalized pustular psoriasis, and psoriasis of the scalp) and the prevalence, intensity, and clinical manifestation of itch. We introduced a questionnaire assessing various aspects of pruritus to a total of 254 patients. Out of these, 42 were excluded. Pruritus was present in 92.9% of the remaining patients and its prevalence did not depend on the clinical subtype. A correlation between the severity of psoriasis and the intensity of itch was explicitly noticeable in palmoplantar pustular psoriasis and scalp psoriasis (p < 0.05). The itch sensation was individual and differed among subtypes of psoriasis. In conclusion, pruritus is a frequent phenomenon, and its presentation is different in various subtypes of psoriasis.
Association of Psoriasis With Anxiety and Depression: A Case–Control Study in Chinese Patients

Abstract:Background: Patients with psoriasis are prone to suffer from anxiety and depression during their lifetime. This study aimed to investigate the association of psoriasis with anxiety and depression in Chinese patients. Methods: A case-control study in Chinese patients with psoriasis vulgaris and healthy controls was conducted. Clinical information based on patient-reported, clinical information, and reliable structured questionnaires were collected. Multivariable logistic regression was used to investigate the associations, in terms of adjusted odds ratios (AORs). Results: We continuously selected 1,571 patients who were firstly diagnosed with psoriasis vulgaris, and 1,571 healthy controls, matched by age and sex. The risk of depression in the psoriasis vulgaris group was higher than that in the healthy controls (AOR = 1.30, P = 0.047), while no differences were found in the risk of anxiety between the two groups (AOR = 1.18, P = 0.381). Subgroup analysis by disease onsets showed that late-onset psoriasis (LOP) was significantly associated with a higher risk of anxiety (AOR = 1.47, P = 0.033) and depression symptoms (AOR = 1.85, P = 0.012) but not with early-onset psoriasis (EOP). Subgroup analysis by disease severity indicated that no difference was observed in the associations of mild psoriasis vulgaris, moderate-to-severe psoriasis vulgaris with anxiety and depression. Conclusion: Patients with psoriasis vulgaris were more likely to develop depression compared with the general population. LOP patients were positively associated with anxiety and depression. We believe the screening of emotional disorders should be included in the daily management of psoriasis patients.

Background:Psoriasis is a persistent inflammatory skin condition driven by an immune response and influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. The high likelihood of disease recurrence has been a major concern for many patients, while the concurrent presence of other conditions has significantly impacted their quality of life.Objective:To improve early detection of and treatment for patients by studying the epidemiological characteristics of patients with psoriasis in China.Methods:The Psoriasis Real-World Big Data Collection Platform was initiated by the National Skin and Immune Diseases Clinical Medical Research Center (Beijing First Hospital of Peking University) in August 2020. During the period from August 2020 to June 2022, a total of 1012 hospitals across the nation participated in data entry. This article presents an epidemiological feature analysis based on the real case questionnaire survey form collected over the past 2 years.Results:The prevalence of psoriasis is highest among young and middle-aged men, affecting largely the skin area. Factors such as smoking, obesity, and family history are likely to influence disease onset. In this study's data, the limbs and trunk were the most common sites for psoriasis onset, with cardiovascular disease being the most prevalent comorbidity. Topical corticosteroid creams are frequently used in treatment by Chinese patients, along with a notable proportion opting for oral Chinese medicine for systemic treatment. Secukinumab is the primary choice when utilizing biological agents.Conclusion:The actual data of patients with psoriasis from 2020 to 2022 offer crucial insights into the disease progression among the Chinese psoriasis population in recent years. Through an analysis of patient characteristics and treatment modalities, it furnishes valuable guidance for the prevention, early detection, and management of psoriasis.

Clinical Features of Urticaria: Results From a Hospital-Based Multicenter Study in China

Abstract:Background The clinical features of urticaria have not been fully illustrated. Objectives To demonstrate clinical features of urticaria in different areas of southern and northern China. Methods In this hospital-based multicenter study, outpatients with urticaria filled in a questionnaire during the initial visit and follow-up (once per week, lasting for a month). Results Overall, 1,715 outpatients with urticaria with a mean age of 37.86 ± 16.08 years (range = 0.5–87 years) were recruited. The median disease duration was 1.94 ± 4.31 years (range = 0–58 years). More itching was observed in the northern areas higher than that in the southern areas (99.5 vs 94.1%, P < 0.001). The incidence of pain, arthralgia, and family history in southern areas was higher than that in northern areas (5.1 vs 1.1%, 9.6 vs 0, 10.6% vs 3.2%, P < 0.001). The leading subtypes of specified urticaria were chronic spontaneous urticaria (81.4%) and symptomatic dermographism (35.9%). The incidence of symptomatic dermographism and cold urticaria in the southern areas was lower than that in the northern areas (31.8 vs. 50.3%, 4 vs. 8.5%, P < 0.001). Allergic diseases were the most common concomitant disorders of urticaria. More than half of the patients had to avoid certain food, such as fish-prawn-crab (30.7%) and alcohol (20%). Ebastine (41.1%) was the most commonly prescribed drug. The disease duration negatively correlated with the severity of itching and number of wheals (>50/24H) (Spearman’s rank correlation test, p < 0.001). Conclusion This study provides a profile of clinical characteristics of urticaria in China and filled the gap in the field of regional comparative studies on urticaria.

Abstract:Objective To explore the situation of neurodermatitis in patients with eczema dermatitis in China,and to analyze its correla-tion with age,sex,degree of pruritus,localities and types of skin lesions,allergic history and dry skin history. Methods A total of 6 208 pa-tients with eczema or dermatitis were surveyed in dermatological clinics in 31 hospitals in China. Results 6. 1%(379 / 6028)of patients with ec-zema or dermatitis were neurodermatitis,its morbidity ranking was 6;and its incidence was 6. 4%(203 / 3183). Most of patients with eczema or dermatitis were males,the difference in incidence of neurodermatitis in males(6. 4% ,203 / 3183)compared with that(5. 8% ,176 / 3025)of fe-males was not significant(Chi - square test,P > 0. 05). Their age range was 1 - 85 years with average of 41. 6 ± 15. 7 years old,17 cases(4. 5% ,17 / 379)were under the age of 18,and 362 cases(95. 5% ,362 / 379)were 18 or older. Elder persons were more vulnerable to this disease (Logistic regression,β = 0. 012). The increment in probability of neurodermatitis with increase of age in one year was 1. 2% . In comparison with females,males were more easily to appear papulovesicle and plaque (Chi - square test,P < 0. 05). 98. 4%(373 / 379)of patients had itching,25. 6%(97 / 379)of them were mild itching,58. 8%(223 / 379) were moderate itching,and 14. 0%(53 / 379)were serious itching. 13. 2% of patients with neurodermatitis had allergic history,and this number was lower than that of patients with eczema or dermatitis without neurodermatitis(21. 8% ,Chi - square test,P < 0. 001). 9. 5% of patients with neurodermatitis had dry skin history,which was lower than that of patients with eczema or dermatitis,and they had no neurodermatitis(21. 6% , Chi - square test,P < 0. 001). Conclusion Neurodermatitis is common in patients with eczema or dermatitis in China,its morbidity has no gen-der difference,but it is more easily to be happened in adults,elder persons are more vulnerable to this disease;and napex and lateral neck are the localities most likely to be happened. Lichenification is the most common skin lesion;and itching is its most common symptom,but the itching is mainly moderate. In comparison with patients with eczema or dermatitis,patients with neurodermatitis have less history of allergy and dry skin.

Abstract:Objective To obtain the prevalence of psoriasis in China.Methods A community-based survey was conducted in 6 cities from 6 provinces.The cluster sampling method was used.The subjects were required to fulfill the self-report questionnaires in a face-to-face interview and also received physical examination by dermatologists.EpiData and SPSS13.0 were used for statistical analysis.Results Ninteen thousaud nine hundred and seventy four subjects were visited and 17,345 completed the questionnaires and received dermatological examinations.One hundred and two subjects(0.59%)were found to have psoriasis.The standardized overall prevalence of psoriasis was 0.47%.The prevalence of psoriasis in males was 0.65%(0.54% after standardization).In females,the prevalence was 0.54%(0.44% after standardization).No statistical significance was found between males and females.Most of patients were psoriasis vulgaris(97.06%).28.43% of the patients had positive family history.59.80% of patients experienced negative influence on quality of life.Conclusions Through this multi-city study,the prevalence of psoriasis in China was 0.47% which was higher than that obtained in other surveys.The prevalence of psoriasis in males and females was similar.

Abstract:Background Chronic pruritus is a common problem among older adults, with a significant impact on their quality of life. However, it is under-studied epidemiologically, especially among Chinese older adults. Objective The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence and explore the risk factors of chronic pruritus among the middle-aged and older adults in Beijing, China. Methods A total of 929 participants aged >= 35 years from six communities in Beijing, China, were interviewed. The survey collected the demographic characteristics, the experience of chronic pruritus (>6 weeks), chronic disease history, the level of physical activities and sleep quality. A population-based case-control study was conducted, including 178 chronic pruritus cases and 697 controls. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed to explore the risk factors of chronic pruritus. Additionally, a random forest algorithm was used to rank the importance of potential risk factors and analyse the overall interpretation of risk factors. Results The prevalence of chronic pruritus was 19.48% (181/929) among the Beijing middle-aged and elderly population. The findings indicated that older adults aged 65 years old or above, male, with college or higher degree, alcohol drinking, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, chronic lung disease, cardiovascular disease, digestive system disease and osteoarthritis/rheumatism, and middle or low sleep quality were associated with the increased risk of chronic pruritus respectively. Physical activity level (>= 3000 Met) was associated with a decreased risk of chronic pruritus. The rank according to the most contribution of chronic pruritus risk was sleep quality, education, physical activity level, osteoarthritis/rheumatism, age and gender. Conclusion Prevalence of chronic pruritus was high among the Chinese middle-aged and elderly population. Age, gender, high education, alcohol drinking, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, chronic lung disease, cardiovascular disease, digestive system disease, osteoarthritis /rheumatism and poor sleep quality may serve as risk factors of chronic pruritus. Moderate and high physical activity levels may serve as protective factors of chronic pruritus risk.

Abstract:Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that has a negative impact on quality of life. Prevalence and management of psoriasis varies among different ethnic groups. Objectives: To evaluate the epidemiology and treatment of psoriasis from a Chinese perspective. Methods: A systematic search was performed on PubMed and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure using the following MeSH terms: "psoriasis" and ("prevalence" or "epidemiology") and "risk factor" and ("management" or "treatment"). The search included all citations from 1975 to 2013. Data were sorted by prevalence, age of onset, sex distribution, type, severity, risk factors, and management and treatment. Severity of psoriasis was classified as mild, moderate, or severe. The studies cited in this review involved Chinese subjects. Results: The prevalence of psoriasis in the People's Republic of China ranged from 0.11% to 0.47%. Genetic and environmental factors played an important role in initiation and exacerbation of psoriasis. Results showed that psoriasis can occur at any age but is more common in young and middle-aged individuals and occurs more often in men and earlier in women. Psoriasis vulgaris accounted for 82.6%–97.1% of psoriasis patients. More than 90% of patients with psoriasis were classified as mild or moderately severe. Risk factors are numerous. Management and treatment was based on classification level. Conclusion: The prevalence of psoriasis in Chinese patients is lower than that in Caucasians. A cold and dry climate, bacterial infection, diet, and stress are important risk factors for developing psoriasis. There are a variety of management and treatment options available. As such, Chinese patients with psoriasis can receive effective, safe, and individualized treatment. Keywords: psoriasis, epidemiology, risk factors, treatment

Abstract:Background: The prevalence and health-related quality of life of skin disease have been understudied in adolescents. Objective: To investigate the prevalence and relevant patient-reported outcomes of noncommunicable skin diseases in college students. Methods: First-year college students from 5 universities in China were investigated in the cross-sectional study. Skin diseases were diagnosed by dermatologists in the field survey. Itch and pain, symptoms of depression and anxiety, and sleep quality were measured by validated tools. Results: A total of 28,364 students consented to participate and completed the survey. The prevalence of acne, eczema, chronic urticaria, psoriasis, and vitiligo was 10.3%, 5.8%, 2.6%, 0.16%, and 0.23%, respectively. Eczema and chronic urticaria were associated with lower health utility estimates. Most diseases, but not psoriasis and vitiligo, were associated with the symptoms of depression and sleep disturbance. Itch intensity predicted other patient-reported outcome scores better in healthy controls than in individuals with skin diseases. Sex difference in the associations of skin diseases with patient-reported outcomes was not identified. Limitations: Cross-sectional study design and limited generalizability to the nonstudent population. Conclusion: Skin diseases are associated with moderately impaired emotional well-being, sleep quality, and quality of life, partly attributable to cutaneous symptoms.
